Star Wars is a big cash cow because, if you're a Star Wars fan, you simply cannot miss the movie, TV show, etc.!

Aboleth: Based on where this thread is going, I foresee a Gunther's Left Testicle movie coming up. I hope Martin Scorsese directs.

Gunther's left testicle and the ballsack conundrum? Sponsored by FarkTV.

Count Dooku movie. Most interesting and nuanced character created by Lucas.

Incorrect...

Clearly this character is far more interesting and nuanced. What secret thoughts lurk behind his (difficult to spot) eyes?

Can you explain or forgive the casting of Jake Lloyd?

a whiny kid with minimal acting skills? He was perfectly believable as the sire to Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker.

Sorry but go back and watch Ep IV with an eye towards how whiny and annoying Luke was.

Now I agree storywise starting out with Darth as a little kid was somewhat stupid and annoying but as far as casting goes the kid was perfect.

Im game with any SW film but if Lucas would hire someone else to clean up dialogue then it would fix 3/4 of the problems with all 6 movies.

Mercutio74

directed by Spielberg.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. Spielberg's starting to show cracks. AI was abysmal. War of the Worlds, totally forgettable. He isn't a guaranteed success anymore, especially on films where there's a sizable load of VFX.

actually theres the answer - Co-Directors. Spielberg directs the actors - Lucas does the action/CGI parts. Lock Lucas in ILM for the duration and dont let him have any input on dialogue.

guaranteed awesome film.

Glad the geek quotient could vent, because Sci-Fi Channel News already shot this rumour down DAYS ago - straight from LucasFilm. The only things being talked up at Celebration will be the live action and Clone Wars CGI TV projects. Only.

Don't let that stop anyone from worshiping a freaking movie, though.

Am I the only one who wants to see just how cool it would look to see Darth Nihilous consume Katarr?

Or see the immensity of Nar Shadda, considering just how unimportant they seemed to make Coruscant?

The Krayt Dragon, the slaughter of the Sand People with HK-47.

But like I said earlier, I'd love to see a movie about the Manalorian wars. I want to see Bao-Dur's Shadow Mass Generator annihilate Malachor V.

Or, nothing in any Star Wars movies, games, or literature has sufficiently dealt with what happened to the True Sith.

Hokay, in the prequel-prequel, we find that Anakin's dad was really the pa of Queen Amidala who was getting a piece on the side on an extended biz trip to Tattooine. (which means that Darth Vader is actually Luke's Uncle-Daddy, but that's later.) C3PO was a sex droid that got scrapped by a brothel owner for accidentally microwaving a paying customer's equipment. Darth Maul was the illegitimate son of Quin Jong or Quee Quee Jam or whoever the hell he was who got it on with a consenting female wookie while "experimenting" with some mitowhatever "enhancers" and drinking aldebaran vodka during his Jedi U days. The would-be emperor is actually not a bad guy who has a terrible gift for forseeing the future and gets meaner and more sleep-deprived by these recurring nightmares of a one-armed guy breathing heavilly and throwing him down a shaft. (Figure that one out, Freud- or Dr. Kimble!)

Dear George,

Please don't listen to these asshats who take pleasure in riding your ass. They're just jealous. Star Wars is YOUR story; Don't let a bunch of idiots who expect the movies to be like the Dark Horse comics (little plot, more Jedi/Sith fighting and posing) turn you from the task of telling an entertaining tale.

Thanks,
Holly Wight

Dear Lucas-haters,

It's not your story. If you don't like it, then shut up and go watch Star Trek. Some of us like what Lucas does with HIS story, and despite a few casting missteps (Ahmed Best doing Jar-Jar's voice, most notably) the prequel set up and told a great story. If you weren't such a bunch of bitter, whiny brats with attention deficit disorder, you might have been able to sit through the "boring parts" and actually comprehend the subtext, foreshadowing, and symbolism. Instead, you were more concerned about the Jedi and Sith being "badass" and wanted the story to be about Darth Vader killing people left and right from the get-go, instead of building up to it, as it did.

I'm sorry Star Wars is not like "Kill Bill" or your favorite anime, but if that's what you wanted, then YOU MISSED THE POINT and Star Wars is not for you.

In short, it's pretty pathetic that you all feel the need to join the crowd and jump on the Lucas-hating bandwagon. When there's a story about Ridley Scott, you don't see a crowd of people trolling the discussion complaining about how much they hate him, how much money he makes, and how his stories didn't go the way you expected. So why Lucas? Why do you creeps come out of the woodwork every time his name gets mentioned?

We get it. You HATED The Phantom Mencace. You HATED Jar-Jar. You HATED Jake Lloyd. You HATED that Darth Maul didn't get to be on screen for 75% of the movie and kill more people (nevermind that you totally missed that the whole POINT of Darth Maul was for him to take out Qui-Gonn and then die, as planned by his very own master). We get it. You HATE what Star Wars is today, but here's the thing: IT'S NOT YOUR STORY. It's George Lucas' mythology. It's George Lucas' creation. It's George Lucas' tale to tell, and if you don't like the story, or the storyteller, then GO FIND ANOTHER CAMPFIRE AND LET THE REST OF US ENJOY THE STORY!

Asshats.

Pxtl: "Kyle Katarn" that people keep bringing up - are we talking about the Nintendo game?

His character was featured in a novel by Michael A. Stackpole called I, Jedi.

That wasn't Kyle Katarn's book, I,Jedi was about Corran Horn

Holly_Wight:

I'm a Lucas Hater simply because I think ALL of the films were poorly written, directed, and made in general. My dislike isn't rooted simply in the newer films, it extends to all of them to one degree or another. I certainly have no issue with anyone who enjoys these movies, but I do grow tired of poorly made movies making a killing, and quality films never seeing the light of day as a result. Lucas would go a long way toward creative redemption by never picking up a pen again for the rest of his life. If he plans on making another Star Wars movie, leave it to professional writers, who will do the story justice. Nearly anyone from the New Jedi Order series would suffice. In fact they could just set any new films in that time frame and do well.

Incidentally, I didn't hate the Phantom Menace as much as I did Attack of the Clones, or A New Hope. Qui-Gonn Jin had the potential to be a wonderful character, and I loved Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan. The movie was wasted on silly eye candy like Pod-Racing, Jar-Jar, and trying to shoe-horn the droids into the story. Like it or not, Lucas is a terrible writer. That is set in stone FACT.

I don't hate Lucas. I dislike the prequels immensely, but, I don't find the originals to be exceptionally good, either. I like the Star Wars extended and unofficial universe due to the wonderful content that can be found there. I liked the game KoToR, and I liked some exceptionally good fanfiction which I have read. I believe that most of the good things from Star Wars have not come from Lucas, but rather from outside imaginations which became canon despite the fact Lucas had nothing to do with them. This is why the prequels are so hated; most people have a different vision of the movies then Lucas did.

That said, these people are mostly unhappy because Lucas decided that CGI was more important then things like subtext, foreshadowing, and symbolism. If you do not believe this to be the case, there are plenty of interviews and statements from former associates of the man who will tell you differently. If I remember correctly, I've seen you lambasting Josh Whedon (who, viewed from a certain angle, can be seen as guilty of your complaints) and I would ask you to allow the same latitude to those who do not appreciate Lucas as you do.

You guys realized how many people in this thread want George Lucas dead? Because he doesn't do justice to his own sci-fi creation?

His movies made money because they have mass appeal. He's not making movies for the 1.5% of the audience who can name every Jedi before and since Darth Vader (including the expanded universe or video games), or for those expecting a masterpiece. Sheesh. Get over yourselves, or go create your own sci-fi universe, and see how well it's critiqued.

There's really something wrong with some people. C'mon. It's a bunch of sci-fi movies with talking robots, moon-sized space stations and people with magical powers. And you want the director/writer killed because it doesn't go the way you think it should have?

Christ, no wonder this world is going to hell in a fast way.
