I claim asinine tag abuse.

it's not the worst idea ever, I doubt subby would like to shell out the money for a new tv if their spawn broke one.

Yes. This is much more 'dumbass' than 'asinine'.

You know, after spending over 2 grand on my Sony DLP, I think I have warrant to make sure my Wii remote doesn't go flying into it.

I've had a Mighty Shield installed for about 5 years now. It's great and saved my screen from a toddler many times. Definitely worth the money.

Umm, yeah, it did.

Compare the PS3 sales for it's first 6 months on the market to the Xbox360's first 6 months on the market. 50,000 more units.

Can't link to the site from work due to the filter, but it was in the Gameinformer magazine.

People are retarded. I have been falling down drunk and still managed to not throw the Wiimote through the TV, or even let go of it. Maybe they should attach razor blades to the Wiimote. Then when it goes flying there is a better chance of Darwination happening.

PoopsMcGhee: Compare the PS3 sales for it's first 6 months on the market to the Xbox360's first 6 months on the market. 50,000 more units.

Every time Sony reported PS3 sales numbers, it was the amount "sold into the retail channel," as in sold to stores, not the amount the stores actually sold to consumers. That alone makes any sales numbers meaningless. (I'm not just calling out Sony here; all the companies pull crap like that.)

Of course, in the end the consoles are only as good as their games. PS3/360 have had almost nothing that interest me so far (though PS3 has a few cool things on the horizon); Wii has had Twilight Princess/Super Paper Mario, but Nintendo had better get off their asses and start putting out a wider variety of good games quickly. In the end, my PS2 ends up getting the biggest workout, on those rare occasions I actually have the spare time to play games.

2007-05-23 12:51:54 PM
Well, MSNBC seems to think that the little Wii is playing stompie, stopmie on the PS3.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16115967/

And this link seems to think that the sales data is so depressing that Sony Exces are starting to turn Emo:

http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/japanese-ps3-sales-data-also-depressing-214864.p hp

Now this one does say that the PS3 out sold the 360, but it says M$ can't ship enough units.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multimedia/display/20061212230905.html

Gee, the only thing I don't see is people complaining about availablity of the PS3. I know GameStops in my area have them stacked up and have started offering $100 off if you trade in any console. I heard they were even giving the $100 for trading in a DreamCast. Sad really.

Reminds me of those large magnifying glasses people would put in front of their TV sets to make a 9 inch into a 14 inch TV:
img526.imageshack.us

The lens itself was often not solid glass...it was actually filled with transparent mineral oil!

And it looks like the idea is STILL around....

It's probably a fresnell leans and looks like hell...

I admit it. The worst part for me is that I didn't think of this first.

When you think about it, the target market is people with a lot of money and no common sense. It's perfect!

2007-05-23 12:54:42 PM
I like my PS3, it's heavy. I think it would probably make a good defensive weapon if we get intruders in the house.

Actually, I loved "Resistance" on the PS3, and I'm quite liking the sixaxis control in "Blazing Angels", but some more decent games would be nice.

/waiting for sixaxis controlled Katamari

why are not expensive tv makers thinking of accidental things like little toddlers and flying sneezes. But also why on earth would people that buy expensive toys put them in harm's way.

IDIOT ALERT for those that failed to think expensive toy could break before they threw the wii into tv. Anyone ever remember the old rule of telling children NOT to get TOO CLOSE to the tv???? Really with WII and expensive tv sets - is it really necessary for your children to stand 2 inches away from screen?

HELLO PARENTS - WHERE ARE YOU????

Wii Owner here.

My household has never had a problem with the straps or with flying controllers. We followed the EASILY TO READ FARKING INSTRUCTIONS prior to each Wii Sports and WiiPlay game, and use apply the straps PRIOR to playing.

Our 42 Inch projection and my 20 inch Widescreen HDTV are safe....CAUSE WE FOLLOW THE DAMN RULES.

How many of those people also bought a game at the same time? A fair amount, as I call. That implies that a great many of the initial PS3s sold were immediately put up on eBay in a predatory display of asshattery.

And I bet at least one person paid the full $600 for what the auction CLEARLY stated was an EMPTY BOX.

My big LCD screen seems to always gain Mini Me prints (I'm sure others with kids can relate to this), so the idea is good, but the implementation looks terrible. And claiming it's specifically for Wii-related damage makes it downright silly.

2007-05-23 02:02:07 PM
Who's gonna invent something to protect Wii controllers from Cheeto covered fat fingers?

2007-05-23 02:05:18 PM
Whatever asshat is stupid enough to spend 2 grand on a t.v in the first place deserves what happens to it.

That said, I don't think the shield is asinine, considering if you get sweaty and let Wii remotes go flying. I've never played on a Wii so I don't know how easy it is to launch a controller.

2007-05-23 02:09:00 PM
are there Nintendo branded helmets for the wii yet? I'm holding out for those before I get a wii, just in case.

whats wrong with spending 2k on a tv?

nothing is better than discovery hd theatre on a 42 inch 1080 hdtv booyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I've actually been trying to find a way to make lexan/plexiglass/etc non-glare, as I'd like to make a shield for our 32" lcd. We have a wii, and a 5 year old son, and while we have never had any problems, after spending $1400 on a tv, I don't think spending $30 (max cost of my design)is unreasonable. Even in the most careful, orderly of homes, accidents can happen. Why is it so stupid to want to add a little inexpensive insurance?
