Gah. What a bunch of hags.

2007-05-22 08:54:15 AM
Obviously they didn't know the meaning of STFU and GBTW.

If people are going to get fired for something as stupid as gossiping, there's going to be a lot of people in the unemployment line.

"I'm on a roller coaster -- I go anywhere from outrage to deep depression where all I can do is cry," said Bonsteel.

Is anyone surprised a stable individual like this is out of a job for nonperformance-related reasons?

"The rumor came from outside. I mean, people in town are talking," said Skorupski

Ah yes, the old fallback for people who try to justify their behavior. It's not my fault - I didn't start the rumor, I just passed it along. Sheesh.

2007-05-22 09:17:45 AM
As much as it sucks to get fired right before you secure your benefits, this

"I have nightmares at night; I don't sleep that well."

may be a tad dramatic, no?

The Salem biatch trials?

Meanwhile, town officials still have jobs despite taking bribes from contractors, developers and all the other rich people who own their asses.

This warms my heart. Gossip is the devil.

2007-05-22 09:51:51 AM
Oh and with pic goodness. Wait, I think I work with these vicious biatches.

Having seen the newscast regarding this last night I couldn't help but ask myself "what the hell was the town administrator thinking recommending that these women get fired?" He must have known that this would get some coverage, even on a local level. Now all of the newsstations in Boston are running this story and it will not die. He has made the situation so much worse or himself that the gossiping is going to seem like a picnic. I bet what ends up happening is that these women get reinstated with back pay and this guy ends up resigning to purseue other endeavors.

I only wish my "at will" state truly practiced it. The documentatin I need to gather in order to fire someone is astounding.

Hmm, maybe I should get back to work.

Now we're not ones to go around spreading rumors.
Really, we're just not the gossiping kind.
Oh you'll never hear one of US repeating gossip.
So you better be sure to listen close the first time.

This one place I worked, we called the break room the "Hen House". You could hear those women cackling and clucking all through the building. Almost every one of those women had one of those laughs that could shatter glass. I was lucky to have an office right outside the break room!

It's good to know they finally fired the town Drama Queen. How much fun could a small town office job even be?

She's unstable because getting fired for no good reason from somewhere she worked for almost a decade makes her depressed? She's unstable because she missed eligibility for benefits by one year?

What the fark is wrong with you, internet tough guy?

Good. Gossip so so completely rediculous. I cringe when people start telling me, "Hey, did you hear?..." I just tell people, "If they wanted me to know, they'd tell me." I especially like it at church when the ladies all gather round and say, "We should pray for so and so because she's been having sex with donkeys again and you know how that displeases the Lord ever so."

2007-05-22 10:01:34 AM
There are 4 or 5 ladies in the mail room that do this all day. I thought it was just idle chat while they plugged away sorting mail, but some of their conversations are ridiculous.

2007-05-22 10:01:42 AM
If you have never worked with a group of snarky gossips you have no idea how disruptive it can be in the work environment.

It was so bad in one office I worked we had 2-3 ladies out every week because of "hurt feelings."

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

By firing these gossipers(DUMBASS), they(ASSHATS) have brought more attention to this rumor. If they(ASSHATS) let it go or just warned the emps(DUMBASS) that it is not ethical to discuss the personal lives of town officials(DIAF) at work (O RLY?) then we( ) would have never heard of this.

2007-05-22 10:04:12 AM
They sure look like a group of gossipy hens, and that is really annoying, but not sure they should be fired. Definatley a warning though.

I worked at a resort hotel and the rumor-mill was in full swing 24/7. Since people loved to talk and I was "the quiet type" (why should I give them info that they will simply alter to suit their purposes then spread far & wide?), there were several rumors about me and who I'd slipped it to. I made a habit of confirming ANY rumor that confronted me. Anything that was asked of me was confirmed as true. You could see the effects as different cliques compared stories, each confirmed as true, with conflicting details. Endless fun...

I married a girl that worked there with me, and later found out the scope of some of these rumors from her. It seems I really got around in that hotel! She said she almost wouldn't date me because of a rumor that I was tag-teamed by these 2 skanky sisters that worked the day shift... I wish!

I was surprised to hear that Islamic law prevents Muslims from owning stock in media companies because of the danger that media promotes gossip. That sound remarkably like l'shon hara which is a Hebrew proscription against harming another with talk, even if it is true. I guess Jerry Falwell couldn't find that is his religion.

You're obviously missing the point. A rational adult in a position such as this woman's should not react like that to an unfortunate situation. Plus, it was the other chick who won't get her benefits, but that's neither here nor there.

I am Gossssssip. I am a snake, for even my name hisssses.

A sacking may be a bit extreme, but disciplinary action is in order. It takes years of documented hard work to build a career, and a few seconds of unsubstantiated rumor to destroy one.

Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it helpful? If the answer to any of these is "no" or "I don't know", then don't repeat it.

I'm an overweight middle-aged woman in a inconsequential municipal job whose only respite from the monotony of my everyday life is passing around unfounded rumors with other overweight middle-aged women of a garrulous nature, so I'm totally getting a kick out of these replies.

I work at a newspaper, with women ages 18, 22, and 24. This place bleeds gossip. Sometimes I wish one of the girls would get disciplinary action brought against them to slow down the rumor mill a little, but I wouldn't want anyone getting fired for gossiping, unless the rumors were getting so bad that business was being negatively affected or employee morale was taking a big hit.
