To be fair Disney sold the team last year & the first thing that the new owners did was drop the "Mighty" from the name.

Fark the Ducks. Pronger deserved to be out the rest of the series. Gutless punk.

Not to state the obvious, but this a must-win game for the Ducks. They can't come back from 3-1 against this Detroit team.

I think the Wings have shown they know how to win when the other team is vulnerable this year. They have a good chance of winning tonight and if they do, that's the series.

In one way, I almost wish Pronger was playing. We don't need to give the Ducks anything to rally around....

And then I remember he tried to kill some guy on the ice

Tonight is indeed a must-win for the Ducks...

Too bad their #1 defenceman decided to do a team-killing short-sighted thing like get suspended...

Do you know the score of the Red Wings game? I need to make sure this isn't some hallucination I'm having.

/too soon?

The ducks will still be a tough team without Pronger tonight. In hockey it seems that sometimes losing a great defenesman leads to the others "stepping it up" because they can't depend on one guy to do it all.

I hope the Ducks learn from the suspension that you can't just come out trying to injure players and expect to be rewarded.

All in all they've played a pretty clean series so far.

2007-05-17 12:47:37 PM
How can the Ducks be done. They have only lost 2 games to the old timers. Also Props on poiting out that hockey is the sport played with sticks since Anaheim is full of illegals and most of them care about CruzAzul, Chivas, El America and the Galaxy. Not to forget Beisbol.

People of Anaheim:

In case you're wondering where this game will be played, it will be played at that covered structure next to the baseball stadium.

2007-05-17 12:49:59 PM
I think the Ducks take pride in being a chippy and rough team. I think they see this Pronger situation as a slight against them. I think they'll come out and try to smash people to prove they're not going to back off their physical game. They just need to be smart about it or they'll start a parade to the box again.

2007-05-17 01:02:41 PM
Did anyone see the Duck's GM biatching during the Sens game last night. That pissed me off more than anything else. Chris could see his buddy Rob coming in to hit Holmstrom and could easily have pulled his check. In fact it would have made sense to do just that, let Rob hit Holmstrom and scoop up the puck. The only reason to even hit Holmstrom is because you're a headhunting son of a biatch. Raising your hands up to drive an elbow into Holmstrom's skull is just an extra level of cheapness.

Teams just don't seem to realize that just because the Wings focus on skill rather than hitting doesn't mean you should go out there and goon them. All that gets you is a trip to the box.

2007-05-17 01:05:23 PM
I just hope both teams continue beating the hell out of each other and that the series goes 7 games.

/Sens fan
//Oh come on, you know I had to.

ha-ha-guy: Did anyone see the Duck's GM biatching during the Sens game last night.

Yeah, that was totally whiny. "If you look at this one angle and kind of quint, it looks like a good check!"

I think the Ducks are still thinking of the Pronger situation. The Wings showed they've moved on from it when they put Holmstrom back in there in the 3rd period.

2007-05-17 01:18:50 PM
ha-ha-guy

Quinn was offering up excuses and biatching left and right. He even invoked the "Chris Pronger is a good Canadian boy and that's how we play hockey" defence. What a douchebag assclown. As a Canadian, I can say that that is not how we play hockey. Want to play hockey the right way? Watch Nick Lidstrom play. There's nothing wrong with delivering a good hard clean hit, but Pronger rammed Holmstrom's head into the boards for crying out loud.

last night's game:

Buffalo actually responded to their goaltender's efforts for the first time in this series. Good for them for not being totally embarrassed in a key playoff matchup.

Tonight's game: Anaheim had a mental blowup. Can they recover to keep the series close? If not, the series will be over quickly because Detroit is playing some excellent hockey.

Yah know I almost wonder if Quinn drove Babcock out of Anaheim. I mean Anaheim is a good team, their owner puts money into them and keeps them competitive. Yet Babcock clearly does not to goon it up. He could easily have Bertuzzi out there running the goalie, throwing checks left and right and all that stuff. Instead he's kept a firm leash on all the Wings even after various cheap shots, like the backup goalie hacking, the sucker punch, etc, etc. Whereas Quinn loves his goons and cheap hits. I almost wonder if Babcock left due to a personality conflict with Quinn.

Thats kind of funny. In my beer league game Monday night, we were beating the firefighter's team pretty handily when the majority of them started to goon it up. Long story short, one of our guys is face down from an "accidental" high stick with a cut next to his eye and on the bridge of his nose.

The goon said, "well its not my fault you don't wear a face mask..."

Classy.

Lots of stuff working agains the Duck tonight. Top line winger out, top defenseman out, a goalie that got pulled in the last game (does loads for your confidence)and a Red Wings team that is playing really great hockey. The hardest part for the Duck will be who picks up Dongers minutes? Jackman is hardly a Donger, and Neidermeyer (am I the only one that starts thinking about "Animal House" when I hear that name?)is already playing 30+ minutes a night.

The Duck will come out fast the first 10 minutes or so, but they have done that every game. If Detroit plays a smart 60 minute game they should come out at the end of the night up 3 to 1 in the series.

Now, if someone can please explain to me what the hell is going on with the Pistons I would be happy to listen. They really sucked on Tuesday.

/Damons tonight so I can watch the Tigers, Pistons and Wings all at once
//Puck Fronger

Wings will win, then dispatch either the Bills or Senators in 5.

I want to thank katalyst for the correction in Tuesday's thread about Don Cherry. I should've said AMERICANS have no friggin clue about the guy as he's obviously been on CBC for the past 25 years. HE is the reason why I started watching HNIC, and the Oilers of course.

Anyway, Versus should get his ass down here for intermission color commentary. THEN he would piss everyone off. At least Versus would get ratings.

If movies have taught me anything, the Ducks will learn a life lesson and face a team with black uniforms in the playoffs. Which could've been the Sabres if they hadn't decided to fix what wasn't broken. :(

I think it should be remembered that the Ducks were responsible for this monstrosity.

I think that in itself is reason enough to want to see Detroit win this series.

Ugh. I take back everything bad I said about Vancouver's old mustard-yellow V sweaters. This is much worse.

Wow, the horses are trotting much faster now that everybody has jumped off the Anaheim bandwagon...

But my team's always been Detroit, for the last 25 years - so Let's Go Red Wings and all that!

I think Anaheim will bring their best game to the ice tonight. I mean, der, they have to. But I think Detroit was and is and will be the better team.

BTW, Chucktown Jones, this American knew Don Cherry before you did and knows him better than you do...I've got all his Rock 'em Sock 'em tapes, I've got his autobiography which happens to be signed by Grapes himself - met him when Toronto, in one of their last games at MLG, hosted Boston and Cherry's "hockey son" Bobby Orr was there. I was in the crowd for the pre-game HNIC segment - in fact, got the program also signed by Grapes. Oh, and I live in Kansas so you and your broad assertions can go suck QEII's teat.

I've also got a half-page spread in the Toronto Sun's hockey section - have you appeared? I've also co-written with Stan Fischler...what hockey publications are on your resume? And I can prove all of this, if need be. I was at Stevie Yzerman's retirement ceremony where..hey! We beat the Ducks 2-1!

I've worked for a hockey team, have Jacques Demers autograph from when he was coach for the Wings. In fact, I have a host of Wings players whom I've met, talked with, etc. I've broken bread with Mike Gartner and am friends with many ex players including Lyndon Byers (LB!), Ryan Walters, Ted Lindsay, Glenn "Chico" Resch, Mike Johnson, Brian Holzinger, and others too many to list.

My point? That I'm cooler than you? Well, duh, but the real point is don't be an arsehole and over-generalize. Oh, BTW, another Kansas City resident who knows nothing about hockey is Ken Morrow...you know, the 1st and still only U.S. hockey player to win both Olympic Gold and the Stanley Cup in the same year? And this was when Olympic hockey was TRULY an amateur sport...none of this "Dream Team" bullshait. But yeah, Mr. Morrow lives in Kansas and is American so...what the hell does he know about hockey and people like Don Cherry?

Idiot.

2007-05-17 04:16:21 PM
Doc Daneeka at least you have the balls to truly support your team through thick and thin.

That sound you don't hear? All the Anaheim smack-talkers in here two days ago who've decided that May is really the month to start working on their golf game.

My team is and always has been Detroit...a good team to be with the last decade. Except I've been around the last 25 years...some definitely NOT good times to be a Detroit fan (except for the privilege of watching a young Stevie Yzerman throughout his entire career...but remember - for all the Yzerman's back in the 80's there were also the Per Djoos's - fyi he was one of the no-name D-men we had for brief periods of time - not to mention the list of stellar goalies like Millen, Ing, St. Laurent...Reindeau...blech).
