dr_michael_hfuhruhurr: You two realize that I'm itching to post some album covers...

Good idea. I'll go with m0ondoggy's suggestion.

Definitely changed my life. Probably the most rocking politically-relevant thing I'd ever heard.
2007-05-16 12:16:28 AM
Moderate Christians are even more hypocritical than the fundy ones.

Yes, I'm talking about all of you. Cafeterians, who pick-and-choose which part of the scripture you want to pay attention to as long as it doesn't inconvenience you.

You all are fond of saying, "He's not a 'true christian'" but the irony is, hypocrisy is probably the most consistent element of religion.

There is no jesus. It was made up. Read the goddam bible! The bible itself proves it -- jesus said he would come back during the time of the writers, more than a thousand years ago. It's all BS. What are you expecting to happen? And why do the rest of us who aren't deluded have to deal with any part of it? Falwell may have been a more obnoxious christian than you, but you're all christians, and part of the problem. The nazi that guarded hitlers private bathroom was still part of the same institution that perpetrated much more heinous crimes. Go ahead and keep telling yourself, you're a moderate and different, but the reality is you aren't. Read, "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris after you read the bible and recognize it's all made up and you're part of the problem, Mr. moderate christian. The fact that you think you're *that* much different from Falwell even though you're both in the same club is a testament to your delusion.

Why should I care? Because you christians... all of you, even the cafeterian moderates, impose your will upon others without our approval. You have 20 channels of your crap on cable, fearmongering and pandering to people. It's disgusting and pathetic. If the energy that was spent worshipping and marketing your dumbass mythology was redirected towards more productive pursuits, we'd have already solved world hunger, the energy crisis, cured AIDS and cancer. Instead, religion has contributed a big fat NOTHING to society in the last two thousand years. YOU, Mr. moderate christian... that's your legacy. I have every right to be a little ticked off at the squandered resources and civil liberties the people in your stupid club have destroyed.

johnnyrocket: Unfortunately this Westboro baptist church guy is still alive and kicking...

kill the beast, kill the beast while it is wounded.

"No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible." - Voltaire

In all honesty though, Fundamentalists are moreso the pick and choose variety than the everyday Protestant. The everyday worshiper at least picks and chooses from the entire bible. To the Fundamentalist, there's nothing in the New Testament other than the Book of they skip all the peace, love and understanding parts to get right back to the Old Testament style fire and brimstone.

Good riddance, jerkwad.

I hope you can feel it juts a little when your body starts rotting... For at least the first 30 years.

He was a hate-filled piece of shiat. He swindled my aunt out of most of her money, and he did nothing but spew bile.

I only wish he would have bit the dust sooner. Asshat.
2007-05-16 12:27:47 AM
Sealed with a curse as sharp as a knife, doomed is you soul and damned is your life!
2007-05-16 12:28:05 AM
just. Just a little.

I still hated you Falwell, and I'm glad you're dead.
2007-05-16 12:29:10 AM
Praying for a 3 peat
2007-05-16 12:29:32 AM
Falwell you were a douche in my book but you tried to do the "right" thing. To bad you hated most of humanity in the process and condemed them. Jesus loved all of humanity while he tried to help them and refused to condemn them, to bad you never made the connection between Christ and the hateful way you lived your life.

\Enjoy hell, you sinful deamon.
\\Ok I said something.
2007-05-16 12:35:13 AM
I hope there's a hell just so you can be in it right now, Jerry. You'll make good compost, you piece of crap.
2007-05-16 12:37:23 AM
I don't usually want to go and pee on anyone's grave, but...
2007-05-16 12:37:34 AM
Jerry Falwell, Explained:
There were times that Dad's pranks bordered on cruelty. One of his oil-company workers, a one-legged man he nicknamed "Crip" Smith, complained about everything. Dad and Crip's co-workers got tired of the old man's bellyaching and decided to take revenge. One morning Crip called in sick and Dad volunteered to send by lunch to his grateful but suspicious employee. Dad and his chums caught Crip's old black tomcat, killed it, skinned it, and cooked it in the kitchen of one of Dad's little restaurants. They called it squirrel meat and delivered it to Crip on a linen-covered tray. When Crip returned to work the next morning, Dad and his co-conspirators asked him how he liked his meal. They knew he would complain even about a free home-cooked lunch, and when Crip called it "the toughest squirrel meat" he had ever eaten, they were glad to tell him why.

- Jerry Falwell, "Strength for the Journey"
2007-05-16 12:39:54 AM
Good riddance.
2007-05-16 12:49:28 AM
Stoffel: There were times that Dad's pranks bordered on cruelty.

Bordered? That's one of the most horrible things I've ever read. If there is a hell, there's a special place there for people who do shiat like that, to the animal and to the person.

No wonder Falwell ended up as he did, growing up with such a farktard for a dad. I'm honestly going to go piss on his father's grave now, as soon as I find out where it is.
2007-05-16 12:51:19 AM
I haven't been this upset since Wayne Gretzky's mom died.

2007-05-16 12:52:12 AM

I wasn't going to drink too much this evening, but damn!

One of the best pleasures in the next life will be seeing these ass mongers seeing what god is really about.
2007-05-16 01:00:13 AM
Perhaps saddest of all is that his hate-filled screed, ostensibly as interpretation of God's word, will not earn him a spot in hell. That would be the ultimate irony.

Oh well, welcome to oblivion, Mr. Falwell.
2007-05-16 01:00:51 AM
Ya know, I was in church last Sunday like I am most Sundays, and the lesson was the lawyer who asked Jesus what he had to do to gain eternal life.

Jesus' answer: Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself.

That's it.

I'm glad Faldwell won't be spewing his form of hateful, intolerant and bigoted heresey any more.

I think he's up in heaven now understanding that he was way, way, way off base, but all is forgiven and he is accepted, just like all the people he belittled want to be.
2007-05-16 01:10:30 AM
As someone who spent years working with various non-profit groups, schools, & churches i can tell you with all certainty that there is a very simple way to tell the religious shysters from actual god-fearing clergy.

The shysters always put the word "reverend" in front of their names. ALWAYS.

Whenever someone introduces themselves to you as "reverend" so-and-so put your hand on your wallet because youre standing in front of a trained professional con-artist.

Its like having a PhD in lying.
2007-05-16 01:15:13 AM
Falwell wanted to bring America under a Christian Theocracy. Al Qaeda wants to bring America under an Islamic Theocracy. I fail to see any significant difference between these pieces of human waste.

You religiosos defending Falwell ought to take a look around... you're surrounded by logical people who see Falwell for the power-driven monster that he was. Step outside of your Falwell box for a while and take an honest gander at him. You're incredibly isolated if you think the man did more good than harm to this country.

Oh, and take your religion and shove it while you're at it.
2007-05-16 01:33:38 AM
Last week: Yahweh Ben Yahweh.

This week: Jerry Falwell.

This just gets better and better.

I hope religious a-holes start going to their respective "Heavens" on a weekly basis.

On deck is Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Pat Robertson.
2007-05-16 01:53:35 AM
>>>Can we get some gay people to say some good things about him? that would be pretty funny.

His vile face allowed many orgasms to be staved off to prolong the act....
2007-05-16 01:59:21 AM
For someone who claimed to be a "Christian", the most Reverand Falwell was one of the least Christ-like individuals. I don't think Jesus would have ever preached hatred and intolerance. And I really seriously doubt that Jesus would have gone on late night TV and begged for money in order spread such poison.
I don't beleive in hell, but if there was indeed such a place, I'm sure Jerry Falwell would be there.
BTW--Lynchburg VA is where the Fleet enemas are made. Coincidence?

// Falwell would have had me burnt at the stake
///Weighs the same as a duck
2007-05-16 02:02:21 AM
What about the Chinese? Did they hate him just as much??
2007-05-16 02:03:39 AM
I hope he choked on a meatball.

2007-05-16 02:05:42 AM
God forgive me, but I smiled when I heard the news. First (and I hope only) time in my life I have had that reaction at news of a death.
2007-05-16 02:06:56 AM
Riddick references???

Come now....don't do something THAT terrible.
2007-05-16 02:17:14 AM
I say again...

It would be so awesome if Phelps picketed his funeral.

Oh, and if there are any flags being flown half mast to honor this asshole, they might be getting pissed on.
2007-05-16 02:38:00 AM
2007-05-16 02:44:02 AM
Falwell was a douchetard. I never wished death on him, but everyone's gotta go sometime.

I feel that the world is a slightly better place now that he won't be able to push his skewed version of a "perfect" world anymore. I won't compare him to Hitler, but I would have if he really had half the political power he wanted. This guy was a threat to anyone who didn't agree with him, as well as to personal freedom.

That said, he was still a human. You won't see me pissing on his grave.

When the fundies finally learn to completely STFU about pushing a theocracy on everyone else, then I'll be happy. This is just one small step in the grand scheme of things. After all, we still have Robertson, Dobson, Mohler, and Phelps still running around.
2007-05-16 02:56:22 AM
Goodnight Mr. Falwell. Tonight the homosexuals dance and have perverted sex in your honor. Tomorrow they will resume their assault on America and her children. If you see God anytime soon, tell him AIDS ain't working fast enough. Send something else this time around that can't jump to normal people. God Bless.

Last time I checked, teh gheys aren't trying to destroy society. They just want to be treated as a fellow person. I have never heard of someone in the gay community trying to take over the government anywhere near the scale that Xtan fundamentalists did or would want to do.
2007-05-16 03:04:41 AM
Maybe you're horrified that people are dancing on his grave, but as soon as people start talking like him in this very thread and bedamning everyone here as secularist swine and liberal left wing blabity blahs, you just prove yourself for the sheep you are.

Falwell was an ignorant man and a bigot, if you dont realize that or you hug onto his image as if he's some snuggles the bear of his faith then i'm surprised you even made it on the internet and to fark to begin with.

The man hated anyone and anything that did not conform to his narrow view of fundamentalism and demonized it to the point of ad nauseum, he showed the ugly side of our country where we still indeed have a swelling amount of old timey zombies that are willing to beleive in and be intolerant towards anything as long as it has a nice religious twang to it and a crusader bold enough to rally that intolerance. Fallwell was a man who loved only himself and those who agreed with him and his "moral majority", he explicitly showed he was not able to love his fellow man and was a hypocrite for bolstering a simple set of principles into an intolerant elitism such as his demonizing of pretty much anything he felt inpure and then attatching it to 9/11, or claiming that the anti-christ is alive and embodied on earth as a Jewish man.
2007-05-16 03:04:46 AM
When I was told about his death I thought someone was making a joke.

Really do not care to see people lionize a person who deserves no respect from any decent person. I will not miss a person who sought to preach hate and cheer ignorance.

Am I cheering? Nope but dang I can not say I felt anything close to remorse for the bag.
2007-05-16 03:05:38 AM
Came here way too late, but I'll raise my can to the death of that bastard. Rot in hell, I'll see you soon.
2007-05-16 03:21:58 AM
why do i get this mental picture of him sitting with the guys from 9-11 in hell all trying to figure out what they did wrong

Oh and Mr. Falwell... "I'm afraid the Jews were right."

I wonder if Fred Phelps and his clan will picket Falwell's funeral.
2007-05-16 04:31:30 AM
Good. rot in hell, Falwell. I can't imagine anything more evil than exploiting the faithful for greed and hate.

And for the 2 or 3 of you that loved Jerry, please join him ASAP.

whidbey, PatGund: Wow. I can't believe that. I'm actually in agreement with Fred farking Phelps on a coupla points re: Falwell.

Phelps is an evil, hateful scumbag, but at least he's not just doing it to line his pockets like Jerry and Pat.
2007-05-16 06:29:32 AM
Hitchens on Falwell. Fish in barrel, meet daisy-cutter:

The empty life of this ugly little charlatan proves only one thing, that you can get away with the most extraordinary offenses to morality and to truth in this country if you will just get yourself called reverend. Who would, even at your network, have invited on such a little toad to tell us that the attacks of September the 11th were the result of our sinfulness and were God's punishment if they hadn't got some kind of clerical qualification?

People like that should be out in the street, shouting and hollering with a cardboard sign and selling pencils from a cup. The whole consideration of this -- of this horrible little person is offensive to very, very many of us who have some regard for truth and for morality, and who think that ethics do not require that lies be told to children by evil old men, that we're -- we're not told that people who believe like Falwell will be snatched up into heaven, where I'm glad to see he skipped the rapture, just found on the floor of his office, while the rest of us go to hell.

After that he got rude.
