Damn, now I'll never get a chance to ask him, "How many chins would Jesus have?"

Too bad he'll never know that from now on it's just nothingness.

Here's to Jerry, He was a man of GOD even though he was full of CRAP! DRINK UP!

In the Zocalo, Mr. Morden learns that Ambassador Molari has been recalled to Centauri Prime. When he asks Vir what he wants, Vir replies: "I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike, as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price," Vir answers. "I want to look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this. Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?"

If you want to argue "Right is right and the left is retarded" sooooooo badly that you are willing take up the cause of a douchebag like Jerry Falwell, in an internet forum, then you are pretty fecking pathetic.

/just sayin'

2007-05-15 02:25:26 PM
SchlingFo Falwell wanted to bring America under a Christian Theocracy. Al Qaeda wants to bring America under an Islamic Theocracy. I fail to see any significant difference between these pieces of human waste.

That's because you aren't a very intelligent person, and aren't capable of anything more than the most shallow and superficial of thoughts. If you "fail to see" a difference, you are blind, either willfully or due to poor genes.

Or maybe you're one of those types of people who think that little blurbs of intellectually vacuous rhetoric might come across as "smart". Whatever the case, you aren't helping yourself here.

Anyone else find the irony in his theatrical career?
The Grim Reaper

From the article:

Godwin said that Falwell was found unconscious in his office after missing an appointment this morning.

From V for Vendetta:

...were devastated when news of the most popular, most awarded stars in the history of the BTN, a man known to the entire nation as the Voice of London, passed away late last night from apparent heart failure.

An extraordinary talent...and it came as no surprise to those who knew him, that his body was found at his office, where he often worked long hours after everyone else had gone home. Lewis, you will be sorely missed.

By that definition, your world view makes you a bigot as well.

Skitz

I would like to see the source for the Billy Graham quote, I refuse to believe Falwell would say that about him. As for the other quotes, they all seem based on Biblical principle. Why do people have a problem with the Bible? And as for the statements attributed to Falwell listed in this thread, I think the Torah and the Koran would be in agreement.

/Two wrongs don't make a right but three lefts do.

+1 for my favorite quip of the day so far!

"Anyone celebrating Rev. Falwell's death is just as much a part of the problem as he was."

Just without the political connections, millions of dollars, and countless sheep to do their bidding in a quest to ruin a secular society.

I can't wait until Michael Moore chokes to death on a pork chop.

The neocons will go nuts with joy.

Yes, they are hypocrites. No, they are not real conservatives. No, they are not Christian, even though they believe they are.

Just wait and watch. The neocons are lamenting the death of one of their heroes and yelling at the liberals for their "hatred," but the hate-filled neocons will show their true colors when a liberal dies.

Damn, you people are harsh. I am not a Falwell supporter by any stretch, but the hatred in this thread is unbelievable.

HeadLever

Falwell never backed down from insulting and demonizing anyone, or any group, that did not conform to his narrow, religious perspective. His explicit condemnation of everyone except for right-wing politico-religionists was not intended for the members of his own church (his rightful concern), but for the nation at large, and for the amalgamation of political power.

Thus, he and his dialogue exist in the public milieu, and the public is thus entitled to respond to him any way it wishes.

I live in Memphis--live and work among many people who are what I describe as right-wing politico-religionists. They believe the revisionist fallacy that US law is based in the Bible. They believe in the lie that the US was intended by the Founders to be a Christian state. They believe the likes of Falwell and Robertson when they say the the state and the church should somehow meld, never thinking through to the day that the state regulates church doctrine and either approves or opposes various denominations.

Yet I say hello to them, share my food with them, crack jokes with them, etc, because this is how civil society works. But the political milieu is different. The politico-religionists have no compunctions about backstabbing and throat-cutting and influence-peddling at the level of competition for state power.

Thus, Falwell is at the level of other state actors, including Bauer, the Clintons, Soros, Pat Robertson, etc. It is not a violation of "liberal tolerance" to make jokes and disparage state actors. We put up with each other on the personal level because we desire a civilized life on the street and at work. We actively denounce state actors we see as detrimental to the cause of civil society because those are the rules of the political milieu. And we'd be remiss if we didn't.

"severe bowel obstruction" FTW!

/Lower colon busted open and bacteria leaking into abdominal cavity.

Sorry about your loss.

So many deserving, worthy and good people die every day, unmourned.

I'm going to use my time today to think about them.

And, perhaps, about how it's been so difficult since the 1980s to be taken seriously as a believer, in certain circles, because this lout and his "Moral Majority" have become the public face of Christianity in North America.

2007-05-15 02:26:15 PM
It's the Rapture, and only Falwell was taken up! The rest of us are Left Behind...

...so it's a win/win.

FTFA: Instead of accepting an offer to play professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals, he transferred to the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo.

Thank god, because I'm a pretty die hard Cardinals fan.

Falwell's first words at the gates of hell:

"The Mormons were right?, really, The Mormons, huh. Wow!"

MooglyGuy

I'm not saying, nor have I ever said, that I know what God thinks, or what Falwell said was even in the ballpark of right, ever. I just get a kick out of those who claim that there's no God, or anything of that nature, yet throw a tantrum whenever some assbag like Falwell says that God thinks they suck.

PeeOnYou: This guy is my hero and I know nothing about him. I can only hope to piss so many people off that multiple threads on fark shoot over 500 comments!

What a great man indeed.

The whole pissing off people is to not tell people you are trying to piss them off. Works better that way.

I'll say.

I got a whole new batch of farky'd people now.

Fakwell used the cover of Christianity to spread hate. If he had half the power he coveted, there would be internment camps around this Country filled with gays and lesbians, liberal thinkers, Jews, Moslems, basically anyone who didn't fit his "profile".

Hitler called himself Christian, too. It didn't make him one.

2007-05-15 02:27:21 PM
SchlingFo:

smitty1276,

That's the sort of idiocy that I expect on Fark, right there. Where the hell do you people live? Are you not ridiculed for your stupidity day in and day out?

Or do you only say such remarkably stupid things when you are under the illusion of internet anonymity?

Falwell wanted to bring America under a Christian Theocracy.

Al Qaeda wants to bring America under an Islamic Theocracy.

I fail to see any significant difference between these pieces of human waste.

SchlingFo, we're from the same town but there are times your drama-queenism is more than I can take.

What's a busload of televangelists plunging off a cliff?

A good start.

What's one empty seat?

A damn shame.

On the downside, a team of hairdressers and makeup artists are out of a job.

The thing is I DO leave these people alone but when I see the way people celebrate death in this way it really disgusts me. I'm just exercising the same freedom of speech you do when you're yelling from the rooftops "BUSH IS NAZI!" or "CHRISTIANS SHOULD DIE!".

Except I make points when I speak.

See, and I thought you were going to make a point. Here's hoping you're using "you" in the more generic sense, because I do not agree with either sentiment you're so gleefully ascribing to me.

2007-05-15 02:27:25 PM
Couple of things:

1. To anybody defending Jerry, I truly hope one of your loved one contracts AIDS and that you become paralyzed and need some form of surgery not yet possible due to lack of funding for stem-cell research. And for the trifecta, you are face raped (well completely paralyzed) by Tinkie Winkie. Then you DIAF when your oxygen tank catches fire from the sparks sent off by the static electricity from Tink's furr as he pounds you with all the fervor of a rabbit on a ecstasy and meth cocktail.

2. As an agnostic, the only reason I hope for an afterlife is that I might be sent to hell so that I might beat Falwell brutally amongst the head and ears with the Hitler's severed penis for all eternity while exclaiming "What's that on your face" all the while.

Have a nice day.

2007-05-15 02:27:28 PM
Jodeo: Wow. How refreshing to see such tolerance...

absurdistan: Gee, what a surprise. All the liberals spewing their hate and rage and death wishes. Oh yeah, they're the "tolerant" ones.

Even though I feel a bit ashamed for rising to the bait, I felt it necessary to reiterate the sentiment that has already been expressed multiple times in both this thread and the one before; he was a terrible person and the world would have been a better place had he never existed. I'm of the opinion that those who defend him, defend bigotry, ignorance, and hatred. If these qualities don't define intolerance, I don't know what does.

That said, I never "prayed" for his death (I'm an atheist, kinda impossible for me to do that), and even though I have a sister that graduated from Liberty, I was careful never to reveal that I regarded him as the lowest of scum and that I considered her degree to be the equivalent of grossly over-priced toilet paper. I simply made my point when offered a picture of her shaking hands with the bastard in her graduation gown by firmly declining and opting for the one with her and some random suit (maybe Godwin for all I know).

I'd like to say that I won't rejoice in his absence, but I can't promise that when I go out into the big blue room right after typing this that I won't enjoy the breeze just a little bit more than usual, smile at strangers more than usual, or even hum a little tune to myself. That will be celebration enough for me.

"BYE BYE, MIRACLE MAN"

2007-05-15 02:27:35 PM
MSNBC just took down the "Discuss his legacy" thread, as it was at about 14 pages of "Good Riddances" with a few "You liberals are sicks" thrown in for good measure.

Gooseycheeks,

So when Saddam got it you were just kinda, "Meh..." ?

I didn't care when Saddam bit it because Saddam wasn't trying to put a Theocracy into place in America.

2007-05-15 02:27:48 PM
I don't see disliking Falwell as a Right vs. left thing. I would think, for most logical and reasonable people, that disliking Falwell for his outrageous and assinine views would be universal. I don't understand how people can come on here and defend any of this guys actions or words.

/right of center

2007-05-15 02:28:10 PM
I can roll with the idea that Falwell has never met me or done anything to me personally. Same here, never met the guy or had occasion to do/say anything to him. Fine? Fine. However, according to him I am the cause of 9/11, I am the cause of AIDS, and I am the cause of all that's wrong in the world. Why? Because I'm a dyke, and a feminist.

So, I will certainly not do anything to disturb the family and friends that mourn him...but I can't wish him peace.

2007-05-15 02:28:13 PM
ClintBartonWannabe: By that definition, your world view makes you a bigot as well.

Are you trolling, or truly stupid?

"By that definition your world view makes you a bigot as well."

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Weaver95: I can understand people disagreeing with the guy's politics, but the level of hatred and vitrolic personal attacks on a guy that most of the people in this thread never even met is rather disturbing.

no more disturbing than the level of discourse the man himself engaged in while alive. again, he was a snake oil salesman yesterday...i see no reason to alter this assessment now that he's dead.

when i look at just what the hell went wrong with conservative politics in this country, this fella and his organizations are a hell of a lot of what comes to mind. i realize it's knee-jerk to 'zomgs librul hate!' when somebody speaks ill of this guy, but...i detest the guy simply because of what waste he and his ilk have laid to the landscape of conservative politics.

I am physically sickened by the response here.
Truly a bad day to call yourself a farker.

and an even worse day to be jerry falwell.

The world is indeed a better place without him. Now if only we could do something about his followers.

2007-05-15 02:28:16 PM
And anyone complaining that we are taking a lot of joy in the death of a human being, let it be known that I, personally, would NOT, but for the fact that this guy did exactly that, time and time again.

Katrina? Got hates gays.
911? Gay marriage.

Screw him and the boat he rode in on. May he burn until toasty.

Dude, Falwell was trying to do the exact same thing as the Muslim fundamentalists: set up a theocracy in America.

I went to the store and bought a pair of basketball shoes.

Some dude in a dark NYC alley shot a dude in the face and took his basketball shoes.

I am therefore equal to a guy who shot a man in the face and took his basketball shoes!

To all "Christians" in this thread defending Falwell:

"You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself" -- Jesus Christ

"[homosexuals are] brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system [that] will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven." -- Jerry Falwell

Falwell was not a Christian. His beliefs were the total opposite of what Jesus (is alleged to have) taught.

People who believe what Falwell preached are not Christians.

2007-05-15 02:28:40 PM
Why does dislaiking Falwell make you a liberal? Seems to me it makes you a Christian.
