fwiw, the graphic novel from the week that Eden was killed depicted Bennett going to Eden's dad (who was a real scumbag) and basically stating that she sacrificed herself in order to keep sylar from getting her ability.

also, if sylar had eden's ability, he would've been able to keep the wool pulled over mohinder's eyes alot longer.

Valdes

Wow, I feel like I've been insulted by a member of the Dr. Who fanclub. Someone needs a boyfriend/girlfriend... whatever you are.

From the perspective of someone who hasn't overanalyzed the series to the point of arguing on the internet about it, I've got to say to you sir, pot, meet kettle.

It's a freakin' TV show, people. If the writers want to give Sylar that one chick's powers (which were, from what I can tell, being persuasively HOT - something that you really can't claim is a mutant power really), they'll find a way. If they don't, then it really doesn't matter what happened in his cell.

stvdallas: Btw...we all know that Hiro's sword skills were passed on from his father.

Good freakin' call.

Re-assempling brain matter at the level acquired is like playing with Legos with boxing gloves on.

As for the Sylar/Eden thing, I'm gonna go with the wikipedia entry and say he did not get her power. He spoke menacingly a few times, but it certainly wasn't the same thing as Eden could do. Plus, the people who edit wikipedia entries on a TV show are way bigger geeks than anyone in this thread could ever be. Well, unless people who edit wikipedia entries on a TV show are IN this thread.

Btw...after watching tonights episode, I wish to say that my venture into the future to find out that Hiro's father DID indeed teach his son the sword worked out well.

Buy Chrysler, btw...you won't regret it.

Sir Vanderhoot: I'm pretty sure that brains splattered on a wall are of little use to Sylar

For a guy who is eating brains of people with super abilities, I thought she served herself up for him, and saved him having to split her head open.

But what the fark do I know?

The producers have said that Sylar's voice-thing is just something they do for a creepy effect. It's not indicative of any powers.

Wow! If it's on Wikipedia, it CAN'T be wrong!!!!!11!

Sylar has Eden's power, plain and simple. He didn't just talk in a "menacing" way - that's just plain retarded. Why would the sound designers/engineers apply the same effect of "the voice" to the times Sylar used it? C'mon guys - that's not just him talking with a lower voice - that is layered/filtered/pitch-shiated effect identical to the voce Eden had.

/nerd hat on

MUST I get über-nerdy and bust out some comparison samples? :)

However, if the producers ARE simply using the same voice effect on Sylar for the sake of drama, that is retarded as well. I mean, when he used "the voice" on Bob Ross (Isaac) he then followed with a command "show me" which he dutifully did. It would seem that this is him using the "weirding way" on him - but who the fark knows - it is MORE likely that the writers can't agree or forget wether he does or not.

/nerd hat off

Larry Mahnken: The producers have said that Sylar's voice-thing is just something they do for a creepy effect. It's not indicative of any powers.

This. Eden blew her own brains out specifically to prevent Sylar from gaining her power.

On the Sylar/Eden thing, it's also important to note that he was using what folks here are calling "The Voice" before Eden even showed up.

Also, when she used her powers, she didn't talk any different than normal.

2007-05-15 01:12:09 PM
The first person sylar killed was Mohinders father wasnt it? didnt the friend of his father say that he had "the power of persuasion"? that could be what Sylar is using to influence people

2007-05-15 01:22:05 PM
I think that Hiro will go back in time.. To the time before Sylar takes his first set of powers and run him through with the sword.

Also, when she used her powers, she didn't talk any different than normal.

She did a couple times.

A few facts on the matter:
1. He freaked when she turned the gun on herself.
2. The comic book shows Bennett and the Haitian subduing Sylar just moments after so he didn't have the chance either way.
3. The producers have explicitly said he doesn't have the power.
4. He hasn't used the power.

OTOH, Peter might have her power since he met her once but doesn't realize it.

I mean, when he used "the voice" on Bob Ross (Isaac) he then followed with a command "show me" which he dutifully did.

Actually, he didn't. Sylar told Isaac to show him the painting of how he dies and in response, Isaac turned and looked for his gun which Sylar promptly batted away.

Sylar does not have Eden's power. Here's the proof straight from the Producer's mouths. Here's the relevant part:

Producers: Sylar does not have Eden's power. She considered the possibility of his getting her power and showed a bit of heroism in her last moment and now her brains are on the wall of his old cell at Primatech. It's really hard to get all the blood and brain stains out.

Interviewer: Ohhh, ewwww....

Producers: When Sylar's voice goes all deep, it's simply the editors and sound mixers feeling that it makes the scene more dramatic and scary.

A daft move by the producers of an otherwise awesome show, really- Eden used a "voice" when she was telling Parkman to go eat some donuts, also when she told Sylar to lie down on the ground... so Sylar using a voice for "creepy effect" was a confusing move. Deliberate ambiguity is somewhat rife in this series but multiple voices are just dumb.

Also: are we sure Sylar eats the brains?

Asshat: Valdes- Even if Sylar HAD used power to make Eden kill herself, using telekinesis to lift a gun and pull the trigger is not the same as controlling someones mind.

My totalfark ran out, so forgive me if this has been discussed, but do we know what power Grandma Petrelli has, and does Peter have to have a power used on him before he can use it himself, or is meeting the person enough?

Angelcatkthx: and does Peter have to have a power used on him before he can use it himself, or is meeting the person enough?

Meeting a person is enough. He started to absorb Ted's power upon meeting him in NYC.
