2007-05-11 10:34:28 AM
wait...why's he a douchbag?

2007-05-11 10:34:56 AM
King Bhumibol Adulyadej is not a douchebag. Even though the king doesn't have any real political power, he has been instrumental in the peace and properity of the country during his reign.

Prince Vajiralongkorn, the future king, is another story. He's a selfish womanizer. Which in the world of Fark gets him hero status but its not so good for the Thai people.

/Censoring YouTube videos though is stupid
//Making disrespectful videos about the King is meanspirited

2007-05-11 10:46:02 AM
I don't care about the King of Siam, but removing the videos just makes me want to watch them to see what the fuss is about.

2007-05-11 10:57:18 AM
Thanks, subby. Not only will there never be a Fark party in Bangkok or Pattaya, but Drew will now be one of Thailand's Most Wanted.

Methinks submitter has no clue about the Thai king. Having a largely rural agricultural country he's done very well to help subsistence farmers feed themselves better and make a profit in the marketplace.

It sounds to me like YouTube needs to be flooded with foot fetish monkey videos starring the King of Thailand.

2007-05-11 12:26:18 PM
Hell hath no fury like a Thai who's king has been scorned.

This one will be fun to sit back and watch.

2007-05-11 12:47:45 PM
The Thai King ROCKS! Ask any (non-muslim) Thai. He's the shiat.

2007-05-11 01:26:54 PM
Even Kyrgyzstan thinks his name is stupid
/maybe Poland too....

Sounds like that country needs another good scrubing from a tsunami... one would think they have bigger issues than unflattering youtube spots... what a joke!

Anything to keep the US-Thai relationship strong. Otherwise, where else will I find 8-year-old boys to screw?

Madame Ovary: King Bhumibol Adulyadej is not a douchebag. Even though the king doesn't have any real political power, he has been instrumental in the peace and properity of the country during his reign.

Didn't they just have a coup?

2007-05-11 01:28:51 PM
It isn't about whether or not the king ROCKS, idiots.

It's about whether the Thai legal system should have any influence over what is allowed on YouTube.

Hint: if the only content Google allows to be posted to YouTube is content that is deemed safe for public consumption in all 200+ countries of the world, you aren't even going to be able find old Leave It To Beaver episodes on YouTube.

Jeez, people. Think before you take headlines this literally.

2007-05-11 01:30:57 PM
Apparently all of you missed the irony. Yes, the Thai King is absolutely awesome, as far as kings go. And the Thai people are entertainingly touchy if you talk bad about him or his wife. Therefore, the headline was intentionally over-the-top. Therein lies the humor.

I think.

2007-05-11 01:34:03 PM
BigDumbGuy: Didn't they just have a coup?

A bloodless coup by a Pro-King army, with his support (post-coup), on behalf of the rural agrarian populace to oust a corrupt urban-pandering government.

2007-05-11 01:34:48 PM
He's obviously not the shiat if making fun of the king is a serious crime, I don't care what else he has done.

Would my "Dalai Lama Pornstar" video be okay on youtube?

2007-05-11 01:35:55 PM
Umm...I love how people are "defending" the King in an internet thread with a title that makes fun of him which is based on the article of another internet community removing content that makes fun of him.

2007-05-11 01:38:08 PM
It's good to be the king.

2007-05-11 01:39:20 PM
irony. kinda like goldy and bronzy.

2007-05-11 01:43:41 PM
Is this the king who wanted to get rid of the lese majesty law but was overruled by the people?

2007-05-11 01:43:59 PM
didn't google used to say "don't be evil"?

they keep giving in to people who want to stop the basic human right of free speech so hmmm.

makes ya think

The King is not the one demanding the videos be reviewed.

The King pardoned a guy who was overly-punished for spray-paintnig over his photos: If I can make gross generalizations from very tiny details, he sounds like someone who can do a "reality check" every now and then.

Don't know him at all, but seems cool enough to me.

2007-05-11 01:46:02 PM
He's a good king. He's even an old school jazz musician. But forbidding the making fun of him is just plain retarded.

2007-05-11 01:46:27 PM
Thread useless without the videos...

2007-05-11 01:47:14 PM
You can do just about anything in Thailand EXCEPT disrespect the king...

Also, I hate the junta that is the current government in Thailand...They are agressivly restricing what little free speech there was in the country before the coup.

I work in King Bhumibol Adulyadej Square, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. So I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

I had a view of a Thai restaurant on 9/11. Thanks for asking.

2007-05-11 02:06:45 PM
I was going to assume that subby cut off part of his name because I have never heard the name King Bhumibol Adulyadej before and it would've been a great Candle Jack-like headli

2007-05-11 02:06:47 PM
Censorship is an abomination and a black mark on Thailand's otherwise relatively enlightened system. But I have to admit, when I visited Thailand I could not get over people's genuine reverence for the king.

Almost universally, their eyes would light up if you asked about him and (as far as kings go) he has apparently done some truly remarkable things on behalf of the country. This was very sincere, and you got the sense that -- law or no law -- if you said something unpleasant about him in public, you'd find yourself in a fistfight mighty quick.

It's worth noting that there have been several coups in Thailand over the last few decades; on at least one occasion the king has stepped in to prevent bloodshed. He may have no political power, but his authority is such that governments must seek his consent.

YoSheesh

Wow...a commie king?

He wouldn't be the first. Cambodia was officially a monarchy for the first part of the Khmer Rouge regime.

2007-05-11 02:10:08 PM
The King has been an excellent leader for his country, from what I understand, so I don't think he's in any real sense an idiot douchebag.

However, when governments demand that people treat them with respect, people should automatically treat them with disrespect.

So, yeah, he's an idiot douchebag who, in my highly subjective opinion*, probably likes to have sexual relations with his uncles and forces his courtiers to eat their own feces twice weekly.

*Libel is a different matter.
