When giraffes are born, they survive a six foot drop to the ground and are walking within an hour and running by the end of the day. They regularly kick the crap out of lions. They are most vulnerable when drinking from a water source, but being herd animals they sort of post a sentry to watch for predators while the others drink. Adult giraffes are about 20 feet tall and have excellent vision, so they can see threats from a great distance. Other, smaller grazing animals tend to stay near giraffes because of their superior ability to recognize - and repel - dangerous predators.
