Similar speech patterns to Dubya?

Abuse of inhalants should be suspected when a cache of a potential inhalant is discovered or when products with abuse potential are found stored in unusual locations, such as cans of gasoline or spray paint under a youth's bed,

MOM! I told you, I'm not huffing, I'm vandalizing stuff!

2007-05-08 11:49:47 AM
I was wondering who would post the pic first

2007-05-08 11:50:00 AM
That article was full of basically nothing.

The main point:

Look for 1) paint or gas cans under kids beds,

Basically that was it.

FTFA:"Inhalant abuse may not readily come to the attention of others, including pediatricians, because signs and symptoms of use are often subtle," write Janet Williams, MD, and her colleagues.

70.84.248.232

Not really

2007-05-08 11:50:11 AM
ftfa: Changes in behavior, worsening grades, poor hygiene, weight loss, fatigue, confusion, poor concentration, depression, irritability, hostility, or paranoia may also accompany inhalant abuse, note Williams and colleagues. However, those traits aren't necessarily due to inhalant abuse.

Is there anything that doesnt make a teenager like this? If my parents had tried to intervene everytime I displayed these tendencies..then..oh...they may have gotten me off of drugs.

2007-05-08 11:50:24 AM
uhm... where are the warning signs? these are just statistics.

Honestly, the stuff that gets greenlit these days...

Changes in behavior, worsening grades, poor hygiene, weight loss, fatigue, confusion, poor concentration, depression, irritability, hostility, or paranoia

Sounds like puberty to me

2007-05-08 11:52:14 AM
I never did drugs or drank as a teen and I displayed all of the 'symptoms' : Changes in behavior, worsening grades, poor hygiene, weight loss, fatigue, confusion, poor concentration, depression, irritability, hostility, or paranoia.

I think it might have had something to do with being a teenager.

FTFA: About 11 percent of U.S. 12th-grade students have tried inhalant abuse.

How does one try inhalant abuse? Do scream mean nasty things at a paint can to try and make it cry?

Besides, isn't there a difference between simply trying inhalants, and abusing inhalants?

Oh, wait. Fox News.

never mind.

2007-05-08 11:52:45 AM
Are these kids bored with pot and booze, or can they just not get any?

2007-05-08 11:52:46 AM
About 11 percent of U.S. 12th-grade students have tried inhalant abuse.

Who wrote that crap- Borat?

I wondered if they have also tried to make sexy time. C'mon, it would be nice.

This just reminds me of a time when my mom decided to call me out of the blue one day. The conversation went something like this:

Me: Hello?
Her: Are you doing inhalants?
Me: ....what?
Her: I was just watching Geraldo and I want to know if you're doing inhalants."
Me: what?! No!
Her: You can tell me if you are.
Me: Mom. I'm not doing inhalants.
Her: You can tell me!

That conversation lasted another 10 minutes with her insisting I could "trust" her and she just wanted to "help" me. I can only hope she doesn't see this article and go into a relapse.

Changes in behavior, worsening grades, poor hygiene, weight loss, fatigue, confusion, poor concentration, depression, irritability, hostility, or paranoia may also accompany inhalant abuse

So basically, every 18 year old on the planet is an inhalant abuser after his first month of college.

2007-05-08 11:57:15 AM
I tried my first inhalant at the Kmart I worked for. One of the older stockmen had to de-ice some locks outside and got me to huff some of it.

Then we got the manager stoned and she bought us beer.

Good times... *sigh*

You can lose weight huffing inhalants? Don't tell the girls in the restrooms sticking their fingers down their throats.

2007-05-08 11:59:46 AM
So, after reading that, i think i abuse inhalents

2007-05-08 12:00:53 PM
According to FOX news, everyone who hates Bush and doesn't support Iraq are on inhalants.

Are you retarded? It was the Boobies in the whole thread. If anyone's slipping, it's you.

One more unintended consequence of the war on (some) drugs. I'd much rather see kids smoking quality pot than sniffing whatever they can find that will give them a little oxygen deprivation and brain damage.

2007-05-08 12:02:01 PM
Correction, and filter fix. It was the 2nd post in the whole thread.

/BTW- anyone else think that Warriors guy looks like the actor Neil Flynn from Scrubs?

Quit trying inhalant abuse!

I was ID'd for buying a can of WD-40, and for a second I wasn't sure why. When they told me that kids were getting high on the fumes, I knew I'd found my fountain of youth. It's not a midlife crisis...it's an inhalant addiction that makes me feel cool and hip.

My grasp on FArK-eality must be slipping in my old age.

At least I can give little kids the bird in the park and everyone will just assume I'm senile.

/Yes, I just invented FArK-eality, sue me.

2007-05-08 12:03:35 PM
Call me a noob, but what the hell is the deal with gold, or silver paint being a huffers choice. Not only on Fark, but also I have seen it on COPS.. Is there some sort of chemical difference between metallic and gloss/flat paints?

I have a 13 year old, and he exhibits almost every single one of those "signs."

I agree, it's puberty. And ADD.

And JesseL, I agree. Not that I'd want my kid smoking pot, but it doesn't seem as damaging.

2007-05-08 12:07:01 PM
Does sniffing Sharpie's and the Markes that smell like fruit count.

If so then I am a statistic :-(

I used to work in an ice cream shop when I was 16. No managers or anything. At the end of the night there would be crates of empty whipped cream canisters left. Empty save for the yummy nitrous. I hit that stuff like a British nanny.

Weirdest part of it was that one night I was hitting them before the shop closed in the winter and no one was around. I heard the door chime jingle meaning a customer had come in just after I had inhaled a bigger. I walked out to the front with my head swimming to see Jason Robards. It was pretty surreal.

/pint of chocolate please

fish500: I wondered if they have also tried to make sexy time.

Well, trying sexy time with an inhalant would constitute abuse...

2007-05-08 12:07:47 PM
Is Nitrous Oxide considered an 'inhalant'? Because if so, I have gotten *farked up* on inhalants.

2007-05-08 12:08:06 PM

fixed.

Vanetia

I had the same conversation with my mom every year when Montel did his annual special on glue sniffers. Word for word it was the same as yours, except the "no"/"you can tell me" cycle went on for half an hour. The worst part: each year it was like the prior year's conversation never happened and she was hearing about this for the first time. Jesus. By the time I was 17 I wished he would just stop doing that episode. It was almost enough to make me wanna sniff some glue.

2007-05-08 12:10:21 PM
Is there some sort of chemical difference between metallic and gloss/flat paints?

Actually yes. Something in the metallic paints gets you really high.

2007-05-08 12:10:33 PM
joeythehobo: At least I can give little kids the bird in the park and everyone will just assume I'm senile.

You should have just told everybody it was sarcasm.
