Welcome to my profile

Cooool!

I miss that goose. In spite of the bruises, he was good for a laugh.

That was my favorite line from that episode of top gear... Captain slow just mumbling 'or you would be killed to death' at the top of a ski jump. Good times.

Re-posted from prior "crazies are crazy" thread.

It also reminds me of the slaughterfest that followed the "liberation" of several hundred mink from a farm near my brother's house.

/They practically had to herd them out
//alongside a busy highway.
///minksplattery occurred.
////mink were insured = more mink brought in and bred = double the minky death.
// I don't dig fur, but I'm not dumb either.

Glad I could be of assistance. I couldn't remember her name either, so I googled peta+insulin to get the info.

Mink are evil little bastards too. Superb hunters, kill things much bigger than them, and very rare for the animal kingdom - they kill for the hell of it when they're not hungry.

If you want to fark up an ecosystem, release a few mink.

When they catch those dumb bastards, perhaps they should be released from the police into shark-infested waters after being soaked in 50 gallon drums of chum.

Are they sure that the birds weren't just pining for the fjords?

PawisBetlog: We were completely stoned at the time and couldn't stop laughing at the people who were huddled around the shore, trying to get their minds around the fact that the geese were killing their own.

It was the most awesome thing I've ever seen. The shock and horror on the faces of people being confronted with the brutality of nature is truly something to behold.

Yeah, the brutality of nature, first place I go when I want a good laugh.

Did you follow up your afternoon with quick giggle-fest at the local cancer ward?

You're presupposing that humans are so privileged as to be the only species who can be moral agents. However, one can make a pretty strong case for morals being themselves adaptations (kind of a more evolved version of altruism). In other words, our compassion for animals that we eat or use for other purposes might be the same behavior as a cat playing with a mouse before eating it. Furthermore, we can't discern the presence (or absence) of morality in other species if we presuppose the absence of it to begin with. A species watching us that does not speak our language might see our rather complex moralistic dance as just another one of our genetic imperatives to ensure the future of the species as a whole.

Hmm. Yes. Quite.

I remember something like this happening in England a few years ago, only it involved people trying to free monkeys and lead to a zombie epidemic decimating the population.

And that's about as interesting as Britain gets, I'm afraid.

TheGreatZarquon: I can't even begin to care what an animal thinks as I'm aiming down the barrel of a rifle. I DO care about how good its going to taste once it's on the grill.

I don't hunt, but I know hunters who have respect and compassion for what they kill. Obviously you don't fall into that category.

If they want equal rights, I say we give them the rights of the animals they are fighting for. Maybe, after a while, I can visit the "Subhuman" section of the meats department. That'll teach'em!

2007-05-07 12:48:46 AM
Subby, most animal rights "extremists" know the difference between a research lab and an animal sanctuary (where injured animals are cared for).

I seriously doubt that any "extremist" group was behind cutting a hole in the fence. But, you know, keep on talking without applying any logic to your beliefs. That's how people have done if for centuries.

Eeven better is when people ask if I pick up the prarie dogs I shoot. I tell them, "I don't have to, they eat their dead. Though they don't always wait until they are dead before they start."

I have had a few where you can almost see the smoke come out of their ears as their brains try to understand that nature isn't all cute and fluffy.

What? some animals are carnivores and kill by biting and stuff. humans are not pure carnivores and are moral agents who can make choices to not harm animals unnecessarily

Just because someone "can" do something doesn't mean one "should" do something. Naturalistic fallacy, ftw.

Obscure: I don't hunt, but I know hunters who have respect and compassion for what they kill. Obviously you don't fall into that category.

Nope, I don't fall into that category. I have an evolutionary advantage over the animals I'm eating: I have thumbs and can use firearms. Evolution=1, Food=0.

2007-05-07 03:35:13 AM
and they don't know what kind of birds they are?

You sound like some sort of expert in this particular incident. Either you're the one talking out of your ass or you have some explaining to do.

What I liked was the story of some "animal rights" activists who set free several thousand of some type of animal (mink?), which promptly started eating each other because they couldn't find food.

2007-05-07 06:27:07 AM
people are jumping against the "animal rights" reference but if it is true that they cut a hole to allow them to be free, i'd be a lot less inclined to believe otherwise

what's a more realistic scenario than that? random act against a random establishment with no other real motive than anarchy?

at least we can all believe that it unnecessary and stupid

more importantly, those first two comments really made this thread worth checking out . . . awesome

There's no proof it was animal rights activists. A couple of you have said, "It must have been animal rights activists because there's no other logical reason that anyone would do this." Since when do people act logically?

People do stupid stuff all the time, just for the hell of it...remember a few years back, the guy who blew a hole in the Alaska oil pipeline with a shotgun? He was just some bored, drunk loser - he had no agenda.

Obviously whoever did this was stupid, primarily because the birds couldn't survive in the wild, and secondarily, a hole in the fence could have turned into an open door for predators.

On a side note...PETA is retarded and has completely ruined public relations for vegans and animal rights activists. Most vegans keep their opinions to themselves and just try to live by their rules as well as they can, leaving others out of it.

Hey CROSSHAIR,
we get the smaller prairie dogz here in California, I use 26.4 grains with a 50 grain pseudo hollow point in a necked-down .223 to get 'em. I'm pushing 3360 fps.
And it's blowing guts all over the place!
