Can't he think of something better to do?

"We intend to inject ourselves into the struggle for fair access to energy," Jackson told a news conference.

Ok. So you pressure oil companies by buying in and trying to shift their attention to making jobs for minorities. Let's assume they make said jobs.

I'm missing the step where getting a black dude an executive job at Exxon will translate to "fair access to energy" for black people, as said black guy will quickly be green.

Rigger, please.

Everyone needs a hobby.

Look, we already purchase a good chunk of our oil from countries filled with "people of color". Now, I wouldn't mind Jesse protesting Eskimos along the Alaska pipeline, but perhaps he could visit a war-torn country in Africa or something.

2007-05-02 10:54:12 AM
The CEO of one of the largest energy companies in the world was gay.

That's pretty diverse.

Then again he's been hounded out of the job by the press so perhaps Jesse will be targeting them. But then again, maybe he'd consider that to be biting the hand that feeds.

Come and listen to a story about a man named Jessie...

2007-05-02 10:57:10 AM
Until all black men are handed jobs they are unqualified for, equality will never be achieved.

FTFA: He did not offer statistics but described minority representation in the industry as "very low."

Well I'm convinced.

2007-05-02 11:26:48 AM
You know, someone is supporting this guy. Who is it? Do we have any Rainbow Coalition Farkers? If so, what's the argument for Jesse?

2007-05-02 11:34:21 AM
What he does, is.... take settlements and big cash payouts to leave companies alone.

He's like the MAFIA and he EXTORTS MONEY.

I hate this man with the fire of a thousand suns.

I hope someone someday hits Jesse Jackson with a multi-million dollar civil RICO suit.

2007-05-02 01:10:22 PM
After educating myself on Jesse and the organizations he associates with, people are right, he is an extortionist.

2007-05-02 01:31:29 PM
If only Jessie would go for a walk in a pit bull infested neighborhood...

/just came here from that thread...

And now it's time for something completely different:

Jackson said members of his Rainbow PUSH Coalition plan to buy stock in 20 of the world's largest energy companies. As investors, the group will seek change by attending annual meetings, calling for talks with the companies' chief executives and pressing for fairness hearings at the state level.

I disagree with Jackson's rhetoric (I want a job because I'm the most qualified applicant, not because the office needs a token gay guy) but I do appreciate the method.

Isn't there a big Cunnilingus Rice oil tanker floating around?

Wait, they're farking everyone equally right?

2007-05-02 01:35:37 PM
Maybe he can give some of the money he extorts from the oil companies to the Duke lacrosse players he slandered.

People who annoy you (me, that is)

2007-05-02 01:37:34 PM
I hope the oil companies fight back against this racket. Not holding my breath, though; as soon as someone does, there will be fifteen million of the "That's Racist" kid across the country whining and protesting and bla bla bla...

Here's an idea, brutha...why don't you protest the encouraged and entrenched culture of failure that pervades black America? OHHH!! There's no money in that, is there?

/Better yet, how about a deathmatch against Al Sharpton.
//I'd pay a hunsky to see that on Pay-Per-View.

2007-05-02 01:37:52 PM
He's oily enough.

2007-05-02 01:38:01 PM
So, am I the only cynic who sees Jesse's group buying oil company stock not as a political move, but an economic one with less than sincere justification?

2007-05-02 01:38:34 PM
Okay, so JJ is taking money from a non-profit organization (tax sheltered) and using it to BUY STOCK in an industry that is attaining record profit-levels -- so he won't have to pay a DIME in taxes on the money his investments make???

2007-05-02 01:40:17 PM
Ah, thank you, cynning.

2007-05-02 01:40:28 PM
Evidently not, Fark Lord of the Sith. This was more:

JJ: "Hmm. I'm going to invest in oil!"
Accountant: "You'll make lots of money, but you'll have to pay tax on it."
JJ: "Hmm. Rainbow PUSH is going to invest in oil!"

Look, we already purchase a good chunk of our oil from countries filled with "people of color". Now, I wouldn't mind Jesse protesting Eskimos along the Alaska pipeline, but perhaps he could visit a war-torn country in Africa or something. Like women and minorities would have to want to work in the energy field and have the right qualifications.
______________________________________________
How is Canada and Mexico filled with "people of color" again!?! That is where the U.S gets most of their oil!

Also, most job in energy especially oil require things called degrees and usually engineering degrees so that does limit the hiring of anyone really! There is a completely other aspect to the hiring decisions.

BRILLIANT!
Wish I had thought of that

k4mi: Me too!

Imagine of the American Cancer Society could invest in the open market and keep their earnings, tax-free, so long as they re-invested the profit into the research.

Hook them up with that "Mad Money" guy, and we'd have cancer cured within 2 years.

Step 1 Okay, so JJ is taking money from a non-profit organization (tax sheltered)

Step 2 and using it to BUY STOCK in an industry that is attaining record profit-levels --

Step 3 so he won't have to pay a DIME in taxes on the money his investments make???

Congratulations, finally someone found a functional "Step 2".

2007-05-02 01:46:27 PM
Hmmm... this has possibilities. If Rainbow PUSH makes money on a trade involving Company A's stock, after JJ has recently had a "meeting" with Company A's senior management (or with Company B, one of their major competitors), wouldn't that give the appearance of insider trading?

The SEC could investigate, which would open the door for a RICO investigation of Rainbow PUSH.

"He did not offer statistics but described minority representation in the industry as 'very low.'"

No matter, because Jesse Jackson is an impartial party and would never exaggerate in the interest of his agenda... er, I mean, his righteous cause.

2007-05-02 01:50:28 PM
We need an Fark "non-profit" organization. We can get someone to run the finances out of a bank in their house. I think I saw this somewhere before an I hear it's bulletproof.

2007-05-02 01:51:51 PM
What no picks of Randy Marsh kissing Jesse's ass? I'm disappointed in you farkers.

2007-05-02 01:52:17 PM
Hah nice, even if it doesn't work he will make a ton of cash... just a side benifit I would bet eh?

2007-05-02 01:54:18 PM
So Jesse is buying up stock in oil companies to force them to be more diversified, Al is buying stock in music companies to force them to be less "thuggish"...

I'd be interested in finding out how much stock these two charlatans are buying, and what they have in mind for the money they'll make as shareholders...

amotter7,

Are you claiming that Mexicans are not people of color? Do you conisder them to be caucasian?

2007-05-02 01:57:09 PM
see how racist this country is, this black man has to shakedown and steal money from these companies from the outside looking in, if he was a white guy he could get on the board of directors and steal it from the inside...

what an asshole!

2007-05-02 02:04:09 PM
Well at least Jesse isn't destroying Fark... yet.

Maybe Drew can hire him to do some PR and patch things up around here.

2007-05-02 02:05:12 PM
First, I would like to say that they should follow the universities lead and find black immigrants to fill these roles.

Second, not too long ago I worked in executive support for a large oil company. Out of the the 12 or so people that attended most of the important meetings 2 were black and 5 were women. I understand that this is not completely representative of the population as a whole, but if you look at people with engineering related degrees I would guess that it represents a higher percentage. Two division heads and the former CEO of the US division were women. I would guess that Jessie mus be talking about someone else.
