Nothing raises the small hairs on my back as when I read or hear someone using the word "they" in place of "he" or "she" as an awkward stand-in for a gender-neutral pronoun which English does not have. What's worse is the use of "they" in place of "him." Why would subby be looking for a gender-neutral pronoun to refer to "man?"
