I say nuke PETA from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

2007-04-28 01:22:39 AM
Am I going to get sued for sexual harassment if I roll the little farker over to see which classification it falls under?

2007-04-28 01:23:23 AM
NO, no, no, no, no, no, no. I propose refering to all PETA members as its or, the mentally unstable.

2007-04-28 01:24:24 AM
I may think PETA are a bunch of wackjobs who occasionally throw some nice T&A out there in "protests", but at the same time, I have to admit this one's not a bad idea.

Who the hell calls their pet an "it" anyhow? Emotionally detached smacktards that shouldn't have pets in the first place. Even if the pet is an -ex- male or female, it shouldn't make a difference in what you call the poor neutered thing.

I mean, hell. People call Dennis Kucinich a "he" all the time, but we all know he's a eununch.

/liberal but Kucinich is a wack

fark you peta.

p.s. IT was tasty with steak seasoning.
I enjoyed murdering IT for pelts and food.

I am artichokes' cat, Nolan, and I am a "he." I can barely enjoy my morning paper anymore because of these oversights. It's barbaric.

Seconded. Move to vote.

Huh. I didn't expect this from People Eating Tasty Animals.

2007-04-28 01:26:35 AM
I agree--who doesn't do this already? Even people who abuse their pets use gender appropriate pronouns--

I thought most people referred to animals as he or she when they knew the gender anyways. At least PETA isn't blowing anyone up over this... yet.

2007-04-28 01:29:15 AM
It is merely an extension of what we as humans have been doing for ages: the extension of our moral circle. It will not stop, it just advances one funeral at a time as those of older moral structures drop. I would really prefer to have all humans viewed with the same moral value as our neighbors (read: friends and family or at least in-group), before other species are brought into the circle, but am happy with any outward push of those to whom we show simple respects.

2007-04-28 01:29:21 AM
They are simply trying to evoke more sympathy for the animals by anthropormophizing them a bit. It makes sense.

2007-04-28 01:30:20 AM
Meh, they wrote at letter, oh noes? They may be screwballs I don't agree with, but they can write all the letters they want for all I care. :P

2007-04-28 01:31:06 AM
Regardless of gender designation, my cat will continue to wear lipstick.

2007-04-28 01:31:12 AM
anthro-what now?

2007-04-28 01:33:53 AM
I've never even heard someone call an animal an "it" unless they didn't know the gender of it.

On a somewhat related note, we have six cats, and my dad, for some reason, calls the hes shes and the shes hes. Without fail.

2007-04-28 01:35:24 AM
So does this mean I can finally call "her" my girlfriend?

2007-04-28 01:36:14 AM
Who dealt it?

2007-04-28 01:39:12 AM
Dr. Snugglebunny agrees, we deserve our due honorifics...

2007-04-28 01:40:32 AM
will PETA be suing the elderly who consistantly refer to all animals and most children as "he", regardless of actual gender?

2007-04-28 01:40:34 AM
PETA should be pushing for gender-neutral pronouns in general, this isn't going to change anything.

2007-04-28 01:40:36 AM
Say what you want about PETA, but if objectification is your gig ("It puts the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again"), that's between you and your own stunted psyche. Just do me a favor and don't act all surprised when people who outgrew their infantile solipsism aren't falling all over themselves to validate you, either.

Germanic languages (yes, Special Ed, that includes English) have gender specific nouns. This is not a new idea.

2007-04-28 01:42:10 AM
I thought about joining PETA. But they wanted me to give up my car 'cause of the leather upholstery and my Mephistos and Tony Lamas. Fark that shiat. Insofar as how I refer to my cats, they prefer I genuflect and not utter their names but refer to them as "Your Majesty."

2007-04-28 01:43:26 AM
What about Cousin It?

2007-04-28 01:45:59 AM
Regardless of gender designation, my cat will continue to wear lipstick.

Now I'm awake again from laughing. Damn you, supernaturaltoe, damn you.

2007-04-28 01:46:01 AM
Can I still refer to babies as "it"?

2007-04-28 01:51:56 AM
I refer to everything as "it"... dogs, cats, children, people...

/no, children ≠ people

2007-04-28 01:56:58 AM
There was a time when PETA had a point. Now they've just gone nuts and spend their time flapping their arms around and making fart noises like that "special" kid back in grade school.

PETA isn't asking pet owners to do this, but the Associated Press when they refer to an animal or animals in a story. I suspect the reporters do this because they don't always know the gender of the animal.

That being said, all the pet owners I know (myself included), refer to their pets by their given names.

Anyone who has a cat knows that the cat rules the roost. The cat owns us, not the other way around.

2007-04-28 01:59:47 AM
...the usage of personal pronouns for all animals.

Well its interesting that they think we should always use "personal" pronouns for non-persons. Seems to be a bit of an oxymoron. And, while most people likely refer to their own pets as "he" or "she," the news reporters aren't gonna check underneath every animal to figure out which they're talking about.

2007-04-28 02:02:15 AM
So if a pet's name is already Mr Snuggles, does that mean the second reference would be Mr Mr Snuggles?
And what if you have a kid who's named their female hamster Mr Snuggles. Does that become Ms Mr Snuggles, or "the gender-confused Mr Snuggles"?

2007-04-28 02:03:20 AM
i kinda see their point, but ....

for gods SAKE...who CARES, Peta? I mean really? You think the dog or cat gives a rats ass? No. Hell, I refer to my cat as all manner of variable names. Most commonly (besides his real name) things like farkface, fatass, shiathead, etc. And he responds the same as if I called his name. Clearly he doesn't mind being called "it".

I love animals. I believe we should save them from extinction. But I also believe PETA needs to be disbanded, and the only way to do that is to skin them alive and wear them as outfits to public functions.

Helpful hint, if it's a : it's a boy. If it's a ; it's a girl.

/I invented the question mark.

2007-04-28 02:14:28 AM
"Well, you don't know my cat. It's very demanding."

"It? You don't know if it's a boy or a girl?"

"I respect it's privacy."

Years ago I used to date this chick with those batshiate crazy eyes. Total whack job that would do any acrobatic-public-display thing I could think of. She'd go off without so much as an ear twitch on these pscho rants and rages, tearing up the apartment and the car then, BOOM, moodswing right back into bed with the zeal of a recently released prisoner. She was the poster child for bipolar disorder. I always wondered what became of her,...

...until I RTFA.

If I ever get a dog, (s)he will be named Admiral Huffington.

Or possibly Herr FLÜGGÅƏNK∂€ČHIŒβØL∫ÊN.

Possibly Fleet Admiral, contingent on good behavior.

Sigh. I live near Portland, OR and I swear to god there is a proposal in the state government to allows dogs in restaurants. God damn, I swear this area has the largest contingent of dog nazis and bicycle nazis in the US.

I'm an animal person. I have pets and I love and care for them dearly. My Boxer sleeps on my bed and alerts me anytime anything strange happens. I feel more secure having her attentive senses for protection. I don't rely on her ability to eat someone should they be stupid enough to try to come in my house uninvited. I have a handgun and a shotgun for that because, quite frankly, I would not want her harmed by a stoopid tweaker should that situation present itself. PETA thinks no one should have companion animals. They should be enjoyed "at a distance"...

I can't relate to PETA at ALL. I have no idea how to.

Message to the retards in charge: Pick your battles. This drives people farther away from your ideology and exposes your extremely poor decision making skills.

Just google PETA Quotes and see for yourself. They haven't the ability to use a rational thought process

PETA is working to humanize animals, but it will back fire, because sooner or later these animals will get so humanized, one may want to bond sexually, then what?

2007-04-28 03:07:02 AM
i have a cat named Lieutenant Timothy Quinn McFuzz.

Lt. McFuzz for short.

Lt. aint no "he" or "she". hes a lieutenant.

PETA needs to be thrown under a bus
