I'm always amazed at the number of Farkers who have so much hatred toward Christianity and Christians, and feel the need to post their hatred everytime any "religion" thread comes up.

Christianity has a marketing problem. It may seem to you that the image of Christianity is being shaped by people who hate it, but in reality it is being shaped by a toxic subset of Christians who have proven to be effective marketers. They use Christianity as an excuse not to give a crap about anybody else, and in fact to justify a policy of hate and aggression against people who are different in ways they find disturbing.

If you want Christianity to be respected in the public mind, you have to win the marketing war against people like Ted Haggard. Otherwise, you'll continue to see decent people abandon Christianity, and you'll become more and more lonely as a Christian who isn't a selfish, closed-minded xenophobe.

Narnian Rockhound:I'm always amazed at the number of Farkers who have so much hatred toward Christianity and Christians, and feel the need to post their hatred everytime any "religion" thread comes up. Do you have to hate people who choose to take the idea that God exists and is interested in the affairs of humanity seriously?

In fact, how about just not hating those who are different from you, period?

This idea of Christians having a concern for the environment is not new - but it has not always gotten the attention it deserves. It is good to see the idea finally getting some more widespread attention.

I am not a Christian myself, not really. I go to church every Sunday, but I am not really a believer. In any case, from the conversations I have had with my Christian friends, it doesn't surprise me that religious groups are trying to be more "green" in the way they live.
If God created the Earth as well as those living on it, it would make sense that God would want the human race to take care of its' home for the duration of their lives. Respecting the Earth is just another way of respecting God.
I simply just do not understand why taking better care of the planet has to be considered a political, religious, or any other kind of agenda-based movement. We are all humans, we all live on the same planet, and we all have everything to lose if the Earth turns to shiat.
We need clean air and water to live. We need a healthy planet to ensure the human race survives.
If we have the means of conserving energy, creating less pollution, and possibly repairing any damage we have caused so far, why not make use of these methods?
Quit bickering about it being an issue of Left vs. Right, Christians vs. Atheists, or Rich vs. Poor. Just pay attention and work together.

It costs more money to do it that way.

lol. the "atheist" agenda. that cracks me up every time i hear it.

do you believe this rock will keep tigers away? you dont?!

you are part of the anti-this-rock-keeps-tigers-away agenda!

if you haven't noticed yet, it's the countries whose religion has been merged with their politics who are engaged in jihads and other "sectarian violence".

what do you mean it "costs more money" exactly? does this money get shot off into space? does it get tossed into a volcano?

unless money is being sent to repair iraq, it doesnt typically 'disappear'.

Seeing as how all religious and political institutions as well as most environmental causes are all about amassing and retaining power over people, it makes sense that the different factions would converge against us...

No it's the countries that have dipshiat fundies running them that are wracked with violence.

Most of those are Islamic right now, it was communist (and atheist) Russia, China, and Cambodia that killed of most of the people that were not "true believers" in the last century.

I think it's because Christianity doesnt have a good record of leaving non-believers alone. there are plenty of instances where people were tortured to death, their land taken, their lives ruined, because they didnt believe in Jebus and his mommy.

Also, when you guys allow Falwell and Robertson and their type to say 9/11 was caused because america doesnt hate gay people enough, or that the state department should be nuked for not following what his version of the bible says, the non-believers tend to remember that kind of thing.

If more "Christians" were actually Christians, I think people would like them more, but instead we are stuck with a bunch of pissed off racists and homophobes who think it's their business to tell everyone else what they are allowed to do.

It's funny how the "Compassionate Conservatives" say that the "Liberals" are trying to make laws keeping people safe from themselves and how thats an encroachment on personal liberty and freedom, then turn around and try to add constitutional amendments LIMITING our personal liberties and freedom.

Thats the kind of thing people are thinking when they roll their eyes when their officemate or PTA members start talking about their lord and personal savior, his plan for all of us, blah blah blah.

2007-04-27 10:21:21 PM
Yep, Cause Falwell speaks for me just like Nader and Peta speak for you.

I get what you are saying, and agree to a point. I just see your bias, and I dont think you do.

It isn't hatred for Christians, or Jews, or Muslims, or [insert religion here].
It's contempt.
I don't care about them enough to hate them, but I do feel disgust.

It's the untimate cop-out: I'm not strong-minded enough to face reality, so I'll believe there is a big Santa Claus/Angry Daddy figure who will make me behave and give me presents when I am good.

Cowards

2007-04-27 10:52:40 PM
Sorry doughnuts, but if the depth of your spirituality only goes to seeing a creator/god as a Santa Clause/Angry Daddy figure, than frankly, you are as ignorant as the percentage of religious people that you despise.

2007-04-27 11:26:49 PM
Meh,

I can see I am getting cranky and a bit meaner than I like even though I am just flaming a bit to get some dialog going, I better stop. I know this is Fark and half the comments are just to be funny and another 40% are just trying to start a flame war. But it irritates me when people make blanket statements about how stupid and deluded and power hungry and immoral religious people are.

Get over your ignorant selves.

Yes they can be, but so can, any other group you want to name. I know idiots and geniuses, people I would trust my life with and people I wont turn my back on. They belong to both groups.

Some smartass always posts the Gandhi Quote along the lines of " I am very impressed by this Jesus fellow, It's his followers I cant stand" Well just because many of his followers fall short of the ideal and others claim to be followers but just want to be in the "club" and don't really try, does not mean the teachings are wrong.

If you think you are somehow stronger because you think you are the product of some meaningless random chances, than that is pretty sad. If you think you are wiser or that science proves it, you are deceiving yourself. Evolution as change of species is pretty well proven, Hell, just ask any dog breeder. Evolution as bio-genesis is another matter altogether and has major weaknesses and counter indicating data. Assuming it is true is every bit as big a leap of faith as assuming a creator.

Bah, too long of a rant that most people will just blow off.

Good night, and sweet dreams.

Sadly, most religions have missed that because "religion" often degrades into "Doctrine" which then degrades into all the stopid things that the haters have been wining about on this thread.

Loved that.

The rest of the knee-jerk, defensive persecutephilia, not so much.

"The message that God wants believers to be green is emerging from a Vatican conference on climate change..."

It's odd how the church can arbitrarily say what God wants and doesn't want based on their own inclinations or gut-feeling

It's a good cause, I guess, but don't people start to feel like the church just makes up "god's" mind for "him" and then passes it off to others on earth as if they just had a conference call with god.

it's weird
