I don't think I want an orange one, but a 69 Charger, black, with a 440 Hemi?
Helloooooo.

General Sherman. The horn will play "Marching Through Georgia."

OregonVet: How is using the term 'faggy' an indication of a narrow mind?

is the use of a derogatory term in relation to homosexuals indicative of someone who is open minded? i find that people who use slurs to be closed-minded more often than not. saying the rebel flag is a racist symbol and then using the term "faggy" in the same breath seems a bit off to me.

I guess the American flag is a racist symbol, too, considering that Hayes bartered a trade where he'd be named president in the disputed Presidential in exchange for withdrawing federal troops from the South.

No one argues that the end of reconstruction stole the prize from blacks.

If you've ever watched The Dukes of Hazzard you know full well the that car was a main character. As stupid as it sounds, the show wouldn't have done nearly as well without it.

Ah, you beat me to the punch. There are, however, aftermarket kits that make this a possibility. But you are correct, such a beast does not exist in the wild.

UnFark - I can't understand why people think the Confederate flag is a racist symbol.

I tend to chalk it up to intent. If the flag is in front of some Klansman's house next to a sign that says "Ni**er, don't let the sun set on you here," yeah... I'll pretty much conclude that yeah, he's probably got some racial malice going on behind that display.

However, if it's painted on the top of a car for a cheesy 80's show about a couple of 'proud to be country boys' bootleggers who spend most of their time helping friends and family by uncovering and putting an end to the nefarious plans of the corrupt Hogg political machine... I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume there's no racism attached there....

Just because X% of people display a symbol with a certain intent, it doesn't it's the same intent everyone has... nor does it even mean it was the original intent.

In Kentucky, there's a college called Morehead... As you can imagine their "gear" has at times been quite popular among people who have absolutely no affiliation with the school... and may not even know that it exists.

That doesn't mean everyone who wears a Morehead cap is riffing on blowjobs... or that the school's name was conceived as an homage to oral sex.

Malcolm X spent much time decrying the white race as inherently evil and denigrating the monstrous "blue-eyed white devils." Does that mean the X caps that were so popular following Spike Lee's film meant that everyone who wore one was a racist?

It's not even that I actually give a shiat about the confederate flag, and I certainly understand why people don't want it flying from gov't buildings, but jesus... all the histrionic hand-wringing over a prop from a corny '80s series gets a little ridiculous.

The_Original_Roxtar: heritage, not hate.

Oh, so can those of German descent walk around sporting Swastikas? I mean, not to glorify the killing of Jew or the take over of Europe, but you know, to celebrate their heritage?

2007-04-27 02:44:47 PM
The Confederate flag has ceased to be a symbol of racism. It is now a symbol for the erosion of free speech.

2007-04-27 02:45:23 PM
No but KITT was waaaaay better than General Lee, and still is.

worth only a fraction of the General Lee..

DUBLIN, Calif. Apr 2, 2007 (AP)KITT, the flame-throwing, river-jumping, talking muscle car from the `80s TV show "Knight Rider," is up for sale. Restored to its debut-season glory, the modified black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am is offered at $149,995 at a Dublin auto dealership

If you change the horn to play a Snoop Dog song then It'll kinda offset the flag.

i grew up in a tiny little farm town in michigan, and on the last day of school everyday all the "rednecks" would have flag poles in the back of their pickups with a rebel flag flying from them, and they would drive in a line through the town. they always proclaimed it was due to their heritage...........in michigan. they never understood my blank stares when they said this.

2007-04-27 02:47:22 PM
RocketRod It's not "the" car (or any of the other ones) from the series.

FTFA: "JOHN SCHNEIDER is selling the 'General Lee' car he bought from producers when the TV series came to an end.
The actor, who played Bo Duke in the hit series, used the famous car, one of many replica Dodge Chargers, as his own personal ride on the set."

Looks to me like it was one of the cars from the show. Plus it was Schneider's personal ride during and after the series.

That being said, I looked for Collier & Co: Hot Pursuit on MetaCritic and Rotten Tomato. 'Nuff said.

/and then there's the farking flag.

Merry Sunshine: Oh, so can those of German descent walk around sporting Swastikas? I mean, not to glorify the killing of Jew or the take over of Europe, but you know, to celebrate their heritage?

Uh, Naziism isn't typically considered to be the hallmark of German heritage. It was a relatively short lived movement that hijacked an entire nation.

haystackhead

Not suprising. Who the hell wants an '82 Trans Am? When it comes to cars who wants anything made in the '80's? But a 1969 Dodge Charger RT. That's a car that just oozes sexiness, if you ask me, regardless of color.

Merry Sunshine: Oh, so can those of German descent walk around sporting Swastikas? I mean, not to glorify the killing of Jew or the take over of Europe, but you know, to celebrate their heritage?

that should be their right if they choose to. the swastika means different things to different people. they also have to expect that people will take it the wrong way. (nice godwin though, thanks for handing over the win)

To me, a rebel flag conveys something sadly missing from this country recently... the tendency to rebel against the federal government. we see more and more power over our lives going to the federal government (are you happy with the way the current administration is destroying personal freedom?)

My ancestors fought under that flag to protect their homes from an invading army. to protect their homes, not to oppress a race of people. Not every southerner was a rich slave owner. most were poor farmers (read: non slave owners) who simply had more loyalty to their home state than the federal government.

should americans walk around with the star-spangled banner? i mean, it's not like there are any people around today who resent it or anything.

2007-04-27 02:54:37 PM
What Schneider has is what is called a "hero" car. Lots of chargers were purchased and destroyed during production. Typically, the producers would see a charger in a parking lot, leave a note on the windshield and buy it. It was quickly painted and then jumped in one or two scenes before the frame was bent and it was ruined. Hero cars are well-kept and used for closeups and photoshoots.

Growing up, I lived across the street from about 3 General Lee chargers... not from the show or anything, but the family that lived across the street had a father/son who shared the hobby of restoring late 60's Mopar products.

So, owning about 5 chargers anyway, they saw the opportunity to capitalize on the popularity of the show and modded 3 of the lesser specimens to be General Lee mock-ups and sent them around as an attraction at various car shows and what-not.

Cameron_Talley:...the Confederate Battle Flag is not a "racist" symbol by any means.

fark it...I'm not getting involved this time.

Well, just one thing...

"Not...by any means?" That would mean that it could not be taken as racist even though it represents the Confederacy. You can argue that it's about heritage, that the war wasn't about slavery, etc., but to say that there's no way it could be construed as racist is pretty retarded.

There. Done.

Okay, one more...

commit treason.

Fixed that for you.

My ancestors fought under that flag to protect their homes from an invading army. to protect their homes, not to oppress a race of people.

Maybe so, but the effect had they won would be to continue the institution of slavery. Thus oppressing a race of people. See how that works? Like working as office staff in a concentration camp: "I wasn't killing Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, etc.; I just did payroll for the guys who did."

=====================================================

A white person did not have to be a "rich slave owner" to benefit from the free labor of an entire race of people. Do you know why that corn, tobacco, pork, cotton, hay, timber, steel, etc. was so cheap for your grandfather? The economy of the ENTIRE COUNTRY was tied to the free labor provided by slavery. Yeah, your anscestor WAS protecting his way of life. A way of life that could not be sustained without the enslavement of black people. They were fighting for the right to determine, state-by-state, whether they could keep blacks as slaves.

thanks for continuing the godwin. your analogy is off though.

"sherman is coming to burn your house down, we're gonna try to stop him. grab your rifle and come with us" is a lot different than "hey, we're gonna start gassing and burning these jews, we need an accountant to keep track of how much we spend on gas capsules and lighter fluid, you interested in the position?".
