It reminds me of this one time, when I had a 2 dollar bill, and a few friends and I went to Taco Bell, and tacos were $4.99 for a 12-pack (this was a while ago), and we got extra hot sauce, and then Jimmy ate like 6 of the tacos by hisself...

On the Henderson Nevada explosion I had a customer that lived just under 3 miles from that plant, and his garage door was pushed in a couple of feet from the shock wave.

BLEVEs are awesome. Thanks, subby!

the Pepcon blast bit starts halfway through - about 4 to 5 kilotons, half a Hiroshima or so...

I listened to that one.

Wait... where are you getting 3 days to call 911 from?

Mr. PJ

The MC made up for not explaining BLEVE by saying it like 79 times in that clip. 'This latest BLEVE was a BLEVE unlike any other BLEVE. Oh, what a BLEVE!'

Yeah, I thought he kept on saying "levees".

Anyway the portugese dildo lesson video that comes on next is also about liquid explosions in its own way.

Who else shouted "Fetchez la vache" when the tank car was tossed out of the explosion?

Weird coincidence... I saw this and the 2nd clip Naman posted on a TV programme last night.

The original, and far cooler:

lol, if you're gonna say "the messed with the sound", don't offer a vid where they 'ESSED WITH THE IMAGE as "better". An explosion in fake slow-mo? WTF? it's like a slideshow! Lame lame lame.

Naman: Feh. They messed with the sound.

Yeah, that annoyed me, especially as it resulted in "boom!" followed by "that's gonna be loud!".

"liquid petroleum gas"?

If it's a liquid, it's not a gas. It might have previously been petroleum gas, and it might be intended to convert back into gas, but it isn't now. The term "liquefied petroleum gas" makes that a bit clearer, but still seems oxymoronic.

/gonna start referring to water as "liquid steam."

"liquid petroleum gas"? If it's a liquid, it's not a gas.

I'm pretty sure the "gas" there is short for gasoline. Of course, that phrase would have its own particular problems, but it's not quite as bad.

Perhaps Subby meant "fuel" when saying "gas"?

I went to the _gas_ station the other day and put _gas_ in my car, but the product being put in the _gas_ tank was liquid.

/with a tiny amount evaporating from the nozzle, which was indeed a gas.

//never mind what I ate for lunch. That sort of gas probably has a shiatty octane rating and thus would make bad quality fuel for my vehicle.

LPG is liquified petroleum gas. It's nonspecific because in practice it is a mix of various petrochemicals. "Liquid petroleum gas" is a kind of sorry-ass term for it.

Funny, the first "See also" link for Wikipedia's LPG page is - wait for it - BLEVE.

Arg, forgot to point out: LPG is a gas under normal pressure and temperature. To liquify it, we either make it really cold or put it under a lot of pressure to raise the boiling point so that it condenses.

Think about the propane tank on a grill, you can slosh liquid around in it because it is under pressure.

Sorry if it's been posted, but BLEVE = Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion

It reminds me of this one time when I was living in Houston and all the cabinets shook really loud for six seconds and we were like, "Was that an earthquake?" and it turns out it was a shockwave from an explosion 100 miles away of an underground natural gas reserve.
