Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to be a college president, son.
2007-04-12 06:47:01 PM
Well played strangeguitar.
2007-04-12 07:52:27 PM
Kegger @ Frawley's!!
2007-04-12 07:53:42 PM
It's not's News!
2007-04-12 07:53:50 PM
So he's getting better at it?
2007-04-12 07:55:02 PM
At least he can relate to his students. Most Uni Presidents just sit in their ivory towers all day in their 3 piece suits, smoking cigars, sipping scotch and fuming about the latest fraternity shenanigans.
2007-04-12 07:55:24 PM
An enlightened aristocrat....
2007-04-12 07:55:41 PM
Who are the geniuses that let someone charged with DUI get back behind the wheel so he can do it again so quickly? Shouldn't his license be taken away for at least, say, a month?
2007-04-12 07:55:55 PM
but will he complete the trifecta? Didn't RTFA, he's probably in jail though... so I'll guess not.
2007-04-12 07:56:30 PM
That'll get him double secret probation...
2007-04-12 07:56:42 PM
he's not as think as you drunk he is
2007-04-12 07:57:21 PM
If I was president of a school named "Mary Washington", I'd drink alot too.

Fred Mertz is a university president?
2007-04-12 07:59:32 PM
Somehow I am tempted to do a 12 days of X-mas on this one, but I can't think of how to incorporate...

"...and refusing to take a breathalizer"

/got nothing.
2007-04-12 07:59:44 PM
drunk at 12:30 pm?

2007-04-12 07:59:47 PM
Hmm, single-vehicle wreck on Tuesday.

And then rimless on Thursday...

It's unclear exactly how Frawley got between Inova Fairfax and Fredericksburg.

Uh-huh. Well, don't bother asking Frawley.
2007-04-12 08:02:28 PM
Obviously not a congresman, woulda gotten a ride home and no arrest on his record.
2007-04-12 08:04:37 PM
Well those withdrawals are a biatch. Sometimes you need to stave them off as long as you can.
2007-04-12 08:05:06 PM
I bet Lucy will have to fire him.
2007-04-12 08:06:14 PM
He basically broke out for the Inove Fairfax hospital. The strangest part is the fact that when he was spotted and arrested the second time, he was driving his car while he was missing the right front tire and wheel of his car.

Here is the e-mail that the the Admin. sent out earlier today:

The following statement was issued today by Board of Visitors Rector J.
William Poole:

On April 10, University of Mary Washington President William J. Frawley
was involved in a serious automobile accident in Northern Virginia.
According to Fairfax County police spokeswoman Camille Neville, Fairfax
County Police have issued a warrant for Dr. Frawley on a "driving
under the influence" charge. He was admitted to Fairfax Inova

Dr. Frawley left the hospital early the following morning, April 11,
and returned to Fredericksburg. Subsequent to that, he was arrested for
"driving under the influence" after a second automobile incident.
Dr. Frawley was admitted to Mary Washington Hospital that afternoon for
medical treatment. He remains in the hospital at this time and is on
leave from the University until further notice.

The Board of Visitors of the University of Mary Washington wants to
express our deepest concerns and support for President Frawley and his
family at this very difficult time. We value President Frawley's many
accomplishments during his tenure at the University. The Board of
Visitors asks the students, faculty, staff, and friends in the community
to join us in our thoughts and prayers for Dr. Frawley's complete
recovery and for his wife and family.

All planned activities and events at the University will continue as
scheduled and the Board of Visitors, senior staff, and faculty will
continue to lead and manage the University during his absence.

During the absence of Dr. Frawley, the Board has asked Vice President
Richard Hurley to perform all the functions of the President of the
University. The CORE Vice Presidents will continue with all of their
designated responsibilities. These arrangements will remain in place
until further notice.

University president charged with two DUIs in as many days....as________?
Please, dear submitter, do not leave us hanging.
2007-04-12 08:21:21 PM
damn i thought it might have been Rutgers, but then i remembered that when McCormick gets into a car accident and the officer on the scene smells alcohol on his breath, he allows him to drive home.McCormick later said that he crashed because of fatigue.9/News/M ccormicks.Exhaustion.Causes.Minor.Car.Accident-470277.shtml

/UMW must not get a lot of respect from the local police.

Remind me to spin the lugs off of anyone who hits me in the future.
Do it in the early evening, preferably when they are parked at a bar.
You won't get far if you keep on stickin' your head in a medicine jar.

From now on your Delta Tau Chi name is... Weavy.
2007-04-12 08:35:56 PM
Can you blame him, I mean what are the odds of getting pulled two days in a row?

points and laughs at Encarnacion for his lack of understanding concerning a common English idiosyncracy
2007-04-12 08:45:56 PM
I never went to MWC/UMW but have lived in Fredericksburg all of my life. It's nice to see the home town make Fark once in a while. It surprising to see how many Farker's live here/or attend UMW.

refusing a breathalyser test is a crime?
2007-04-12 09:08:08 PM
I worked near a small college that hired a dean and ashe was driving into town to start his job, he crashed his car while drunk. He lost the job. I wouldn't have posted this, except that Ethyl Mertz is from Cherryvale, Kansas and the college was near there.
2007-04-12 09:16:20 PM
Frawley succeeded by Hurley? What could possibly go wrong?
2007-04-12 09:19:36 PM
Great Odins Raven

Yes, usually a more serious offense than actually drunk driving.
2007-04-12 09:19:44 PM
refusal on a second offense is a crime in RI
2007-04-12 09:23:39 PM
If I got busted for DUI, I know I would certainly want to drink my troubles away and then drive home from the station.
2007-04-12 09:27:55 PM
I predict there was a prescription drug reaction involved. Most people don't start acting insane all of a sudden, even if they do work at something called University of Mary Washington -- who came up with that phrasing? why not Mary Washington University? -- and people call him Fred Mertz.
2007-04-12 09:29:48 PM
Funny story - he was actually bleeding from the head when they pulled him over the 2nd time.

/UMW Class of 2008...
//Hell, if I had to deal with the bureaucracy at this place everyday, I'd start drinking at 12:30 too
///Oh wait...
2007-04-12 09:59:43 PM
I really want to know how he got from Fairfax to Fredericksburg with no car and a head injury.
2007-04-12 10:08:51 PM
The UCSB chancellor from the early 90s was fired, largely over a DUI she got while driving on campus. This shouldn't surprise you if you're from UCSB.
2007-04-12 10:18:37 PM
i submitted this when it was only ONE DUI!

i will also be attending the kegger at frawley's.

Thank God for tenure!

Hey Lee451 I grew up there too. That guy's a lightweight. There was a time when we old White Oak folk would get drunk and pull the police over and arrest them.

/which would explain my mysteriously long juvenile record.
//Jayem still sucks!
2007-04-13 12:14:31 AM
miss bliss Lee and I will be crashing the kegger at Frawley's

MWC (UMW) Class of '97 here. caamando, the local cops HATE UMW. I had a friend get busted for carrying an empty cup. And no, he wasn't intoxicated (yet).

fappomatic, i'll see you there!
