isn't funny how the usher "watched" and then went up and said something... hmmmmm

That's because it's the first time the usher saw non-altar-boy-with-priest sex.

Padraig, Grivas-
I remember seeing some sort of bio show on the Capt. Hogan actor, they think that he was killed by someone from one of those movies because there was blackmail involved. More trivia, pretty sad too, but both the Sgt. Schultz and Col. Klink actors were German Jews who lost most of if not all of their family during The Holocaust. I think Sgt. Schultz had it written in his contract that if he ever portrayed a German soldier, the character would have to be stupid and incompetent.

Wicked

Did you ever figure out your post from yesterday? Did your friend use your pw?

My dog smiles, alot.

2002-08-16 10:50:24 AM
I bet the couple was stern and Freida banging away in the church while Don fluffed Mike and Buzz.

2002-08-16 10:51:04 AM
You've got to be kidding me.. some of you think Don and Mike are funny and/or interesting? That is easily some of the most boring, humorless, bland crap I have ever had the great misfortune of hearing.

2002-08-16 10:51:22 AM
I think that this is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard, some people just don't have anymore respect for the church.

2002-08-16 10:53:16 AM
As if the priests respect it....

Home less shopping spree? Is that the one where they take some homeless persons shopping around Christmas (which is a good cause don't get me wrong) but have to make is a big publicity stunt, making it as painful as possible for the mall they and their cult chose to harass, and only reason people are there and supporting it because they feel a lot better about themselves due to idea that they are partaking in screwing and shocking the "upper class" shoppers and retailers by making others already miserable holiday shopping experience a lot worse?

Like I listen to them anyway, I don't fit the low IQ rebelling teenage mentality demographic. I really doubt anyone in that demographic would have donated out of good will. I think the only reason they did was to help with O&A's great big FARK YOU. They would only do something it if pisses people off, which now is becoming a popular form of "entertainment" these days.

2002-08-16 10:54:40 AM
Wow, so much vitriol toward some radio hosts... Normally I dislike these arguments, but allow me to make a few points:

I am fascinated at the attraction O&A have on the simple minded.

Just wanted to post one more fact here. O and A's audience is composed primarily of idiotic 12-year-olds

Broad generalizations are always a good place to start. I'm college educated, read voraciously, approaching 30, have a great job, bought a house at 22, etc. I'd like to think I'm not "simple-minded" enough to attack people I've never met based on their choice of entertainment. Beyond that, I'll allow you to draw your own conclusions based on my comments here during the past year.

I won't even try to defend the humor of O and A. Like all humor, either you get it or you don't. It's all opinion. And basing your assessment of it on this article would be shortsighted at best.

So what if the dude is ugly? Real biting social commentary there, pal. So what if their message board is full of jackasses, Fark suffers from the same problem. As far as their popularity supposedly coming to an end "soon," doubtful--their ratings are huge and they're syndicated in 20 markets. I believe they were the top rated show in Boston, as well as some other cities.

As for the Stern-immitator argument, who cares? Do you think all bands today suck because they're ripping off whoever "innovated" rock and roll? Stern doesn't own that format. And frankly, he's past his prime. He spends more time complaining about his contract or technical problems in the studio than he does with his guests.

Well put Scoots

I wouldn't say Don and Mike could top this. Good lord why do people listen to those two guys? Then again, some people find Friends or Drew Carey funny.

2002-08-16 10:58:22 AM
mmmmmm public stroking.......

2002-08-16 10:58:50 AM
Speaking of Stern, remember when he had guests that weren't porn stars/centerfolds/etc.?

2002-08-16 11:02:20 AM
Has anyone here ever had sex in a church?

I'll admit to trying it, but she said no (felt guilty, etc.). It was a catholic church, too.

Can lightning strike in a basement?

2002-08-16 11:03:10 AM
IckyMettle: then you have never heard the inane force that is John Boy and Billy. It's one of those morning shows that you can actually feel you IQ dropping as you listen to it. I think the target audience rides a short bus to work.
but, I've never heard Don and Mike, so I don't have a great base for comparison.

2002-08-16 11:03:22 AM
Why are they getting so upset, priests have been having sex in churches for years.

This doesn't even warrant comment...

I love all the 'how disrespectful' posts - farking hilarious. Please gimme a farking break I had 2 friends had priets 'ask' them questionable things. Those 2 priests are now under investigation.

I just think its funny that everyone is SCREAMING blasphemy while probably 2/3's haven't seen a church since a wedding or something else of that nature.

And how does one respect the church when we have priests violating small boys with round ended crosses telling us to live the bibles? Sorry Jack. Ain't happening - I believe in God but I don't believe in your religion.

As for O&A - they're hilarious sometimes and completely stupid some other times. Hell they even tell you that there show sucks sometimes, how many DJ's do that?

As for Howard Stern - he sucks and is past his prime. How many times can someone talk into a microphone attached to a voice box pretending to be God or Satan and still be funny?

Now come to the real fun :

The deal was, O&A sponsor an annual contest, "Sex For Sam" where they get couples to come in and compete for a trip to the Boston Brewery, where Sam Adams is made. Sam's sponsors a huge concert every year, and Jim Koch (who's been a guest on O&A several times) always comes in as an unofficial "Master of Ceremonies" type role. The couples each have a "spotter", a member of the show who follows them around, calls in, and reports each place the couple has sex. They don't have full-blown sex, just usually quick shots, and they get points depending on the place. There's like 30 or so different locations around Manhattan that are valid for this. Points go something like this (kinda remembering what I can/making these up here...):

In front of a homeless guy - 5 points
In front of a hotdog vendor - 8 points
In a taxicab - 3 points
At Yankee Stadium - 15 points
St. Patrick's Cathedral - 25 points
In front of a celebrity - 25 points

and so on...

Contestants get an additional 2 points if they, ahem, "go backdoor", i.e., "The Two Point Conversion".

They do this every year, and usually, when it's all done, Jim Koch just invites all the couples up to Boston. This is, sadly, probably the last Sex For Sam we'll see here.

Don & Mike Suck. They are an anal polyp on the ass that is Philadelphia radio.

I'd rather jam a red hot poker in my ear than listen to that drivel.

First of all O & A rule! No I'm not 12 and come to think of it I'm rather sucessful at this stage in my life. Like someone mentioned before either you get it or you don't.

BTW, those of you that don't live in or around NY, I got news for you, this isn't the first time two people farked in St. Pat's and it won't be the last.

2002-08-16 11:23:09 AM
Sure Stern invented talk radio according to him and his minions, but O&A have the brass ones to continue to push the limits where Howard left off.

FYI, Stern must feel threatened by them...since O&A aren't even allowed to say his name on the air. Kinda funny really...they were referring to the Anna Nicole show the other day and referenced Anna's lawyer, "Howard Stern", and they got "dumped out" (dead air).

Can't we all just get along???

2002-08-16 11:24:28 AM
So, who has the sound file?

2002-08-16 11:30:26 AM
By the way, well said, Scoots. It's the sweeping generalizations that make me laugh. 12 year old demographic? Well, I'm a pretty successful 31 year old MCSE with a great job, a townhouse in the mountains of Pennsylvania, married, working on kids, have two cars, and no criminal record. Guess I've been listening to the wrong show then.

And as for the Stern comparisons, yes, they do "shock radio" or "cringe radio". So do hundreds of other radio personalities around the world. And you can be sure that ol' Hollywood Howie will remind everyone that he "did it first". Hoo-hoo! O&A used to proudly admit that they grew up listening to Stern, and sung his praises several times. Anthony was even on Stern's show a couple times. They tried to make nice with him when they came to New York, but he just consistently bad-mouthed them, so they gave up. I used to listen to Stern for years and years, and hated every other dj because he said I should. Then when he got boring (around the time "Private Parts" came out), I decided to actually listen and give some of these other guys a chance. Opie & Anthony REALLY made me laugh, the same way Stern did years ago before he started to only do his Hollywood interview show.

"Flavor of the month" - unlikely. When they signed new contracts last year, its rumored that the notoriously cheap Infinity Broadcasting threw 30 million dollars their way. They've been number 1 in their time slot in New York for a few years now, and have recently taken that same success to Philly, Boston, and D.C., and are on their way up in several other cities around the country (Cleveland, New Orleans, and a few others that I can't remember).

Yeah, they're not knee-slapping funny all the time, but they are funny more times than not. Big deal - nobody's on 100% of the time. George Carlin has off-moments. And there are people in the world who don't find him funny, but you can't account for taste. The thing is, people are listening, and that's what Infinity wants. I'm glad I get the chance to hear them every day.

Yawn. Sounds like something Don and Mike would have done five years ago.

Phil Hendrie rules.

2002-08-16 11:33:23 AM
Gecko, clearly you lack imagination. No, I've never stroked in public. Clearly you have. Good for you. Personally, I think it's piss poor behavior to do that. It WASN'T a prank, that is where you show how simple you really are.
That behavior is disrespectful of private property and rules that surround it. Outside the church, different story. Inside, it's not public property. You CAN'T do what you want. Assume, for example, that I showed up at your house with a banner that said "Gecko (or whatever your name is) is an asshole", outfitted it with pictures of you naked, and hung it out your window. Given that you'd think it's a hoot, most people wouldn't. That still doesn't make it right.
Life is a series of choices. You can make good ones or easy ones. You must like the easy ones. Good ones require taste, and sensibility.

Scoots, humor is somewhat based on opinion. It's also based on mentality levels. When I was in second grade, my group of friends used to think it was funny to pull legs off frogs, or smash them with rocks. I guess there's some humor you just grow out of. O&A is humor most people grow out of once they get past puberty. That said, I do recognize the draw of puerile humor on people over the age of, say, 22. I also make a note of how unoriginal and shallow those people are.
Sorry, I can't share you thoughts on what it takes to find their kind of "humor" funny. It is outstandingly common.

2002-08-16 11:34:45 AM
sterns lost touch with his audience(sp?) O&A are just what stern was 10 years ago. Don't get me wrong O&A are funny as hell (I am 28 not twelve and a college grad!)Don and mike suck (and they are coming here to philly today, bleg) but it's all about taste anyway, ya don't like it radios have these neat things called KNOBS don't be one use one .

2002-08-16 11:41:02 AM
In my defense, the reason I posted that picture of Anthony is because O and A fans lose their focus when trying to point out reasings for disliking Don and Mike. In fact, Anthony brought in their physical appearance as fuel for the radio war the two shows were having a few of months ago. Look, my point is that perhaps you shouldn't be calling a couple of guys "fat and fatter" when it appears that your face was once on fire and then put out with the sharp end of an icepick.

Opie and Anthony's audience is composed of primarily 12-year-olds. This is fact, not a generalization. Two words: ARBITRON RATINGS.

I'm not going to waste any more of my time on this thread any more.

I remember O&A from Boston Radio, when they were fired for a stupid April Fool's joke. The joke was that the Mayor of Boston had died, and they made that announcement on the air. Why the are so big on NYC radio, I don't know. That joke is the baseline for their "humor".

2002-08-16 11:41:24 AM
Oh well, Elrond says I'm unoriginal and shallow, guess it must be true. Let me put it to you this way: suppose you're a big jazz fan but you happen to like a Britney Spears song. Does liking that one song invalidate the rest of your entire identity? Quit being such a self-righteous jackass and get over yourself.

2002-08-16 11:42:42 AM
Also, for those of you who are making comments about "sweeping generalizations", perhaps you could apply it here with the sweeping generalizations of priests?

It seems every other joke is about homosexual priests and their supposed behavior.
It would probably shock most people here that the number of priests that are under investigation is less than 2%.
Many of you may think the sweeping generalizations about O&A are unjustified, but so are the sweeping generalizations about Catholic priests.
As for my OPINION about O&A, it is just that. You may feel humor is based on opinion. I have found that humor and intelligence are more closely intertwined. THAT is my opinion, and it's like an asshole....we all have one.

I don't give a shiat who likes O&A. Since I work in the media, I know what their primary demographic is. And it isn't college educated professionals.
The WWE, which I also can't stand, DOES happen to have a college demographic. But then, that isn't humor. All classes of people attended the Coliseum in Rome.

I never cease to be amazed what stupid things my listeners will do.

Just wait 'til it's revealed that Opie and Anthony are cult leaders, and they tell their listeners to commit suicide. It's gonna be messy.

2002-08-16 11:43:56 AM
Scoots and Flan - Excellent points. I just think the whole 'genre' of shock-jock has been beaten into the ground. It's not that I can't appreciate a Stern-knockoff because they're not Stern, it's just that I have the attention span of 6 year-old on Pixie Sticks and you eventually get tired of the same shiat, different smell.

Was that Tom Green I saw cleaning the salad bar at Wendy's the other day?

2002-08-16 11:44:20 AM
I'm not so much interested in the attraction these farksticks have on the simple-minded as I am on the attraction they have for me! I explained their method to an uninitiated friend like this:
It's hard to come up with 4 hours of original material every day so O & A solve that by coming up with an original half hour and stretch it out for 4 hours. The problem is that the half hour is so hilarious, you have to put up with the rest of it.
As for yesterday, the arrest was the ONLY funny part of the show. If you really listened closely, you could actually hear Jim Koch's ass pucker.

2002-08-16 11:45:29 AM
Now that's being religious!

2002-08-16 11:45:34 AM
Dildo_Baggit, you might be able to find something on www.foundrymusic.com that is their unofficial site.

2002-08-16 11:46:20 AM
Scoots, one song does not an identity create. Your analogy is invalid. Get a better one. I can't stand Britney, but I have found myself humming a catchy tune of hers from time to time. Doesn't mean that I identify by it.

I'll take that one step further. I hate disco music. Yet I know the words to almost all the songs because of the frequency with which they were played in the 70's. My wife feels that indicates I liked disco, while nothing could be further from the truth. Happenstance situation.

The logic of your analogy doesn't hold. Try another one.

Baltimore is like Kentucky with a harbor.

2002-08-16 11:53:55 AM
Elrond: your situation is different than the one I described. It is possible for someone to truly enjoy something that is otherwise inconsistent with their personality. You can't judge anybody based solely on one example of one form of entertainment they enjoy.

Opie and Anthony weren't on the radio in Boston. They were on the radio in Worcester. (Despite what they tell their listeners...) And they regularly got their asses kicked by the competition.

"I love all the 'how disrespectful' posts - farking hilarious. Please gimme a farking break I had 2 friends had priets 'ask' them questionable things. Those 2 priests are now under investigation." -- Coil

What does THAT have to do with the price of beans in chile? Does it logically follow that since a slight few catholic priests out of thousands have done some awful things, that now makes it OK for me or you to have sex in a cathedral? I've been to that place, and trust me, it deserves your respect. (& I'm not even religious) By the same logic, I guess it's true to say that since some terrorists thought it was alright to crash planes into buildings, we all now have license to go do the same. Just make sure it's an empty one.

Fact is, O & A exist because, like Stern before them, they say what a lot of socially castrated and frustrated idiots in the world are afraid to say. They do it because their listeners don't have the balls and are afraid to take risks. I admit, some of the skits they do are pretty funny, and I'm not accusing them of being talentless, but they sure can beat a dead horse, as the whole Sex For Sam thing was played out after the first attempt and should have been canned already.

I'm all for driving to work in style, and I love talk radio more than anything else on the top 40 stations (makes the awful music easier to take), but this latest deal is just tacky as crap.
