Yes of course, because the difference between them and a college-aged professional escort would be SUCH a freaking gray area to judge.

Of course you know it will just go away as the media suddenly forgets about the entire case.

Just like that non-scandal of the homosexual escort given press credentials for the White House... without any background check even, (so he got the press pass from someone fairly high up in the White House, who could override the Secret Service. Karl Rove I am looking at you-hoo)... You know, remember that whole Jeff Gannon scandal?

No of course you don't, because the press just didn't bother following up on it.

Similarly, this will quietly die. A few names coming out here and there, so that the press can claim they did their job, but they will be names of people who are of no real interest in the bureaucracy.

She kept $100,000 in coins around her house?

A guy walks in and sits down at a bar. The side of his face is bruised and bleeding so the bartender asks, "What in the world happened to you, buddy?".

The guy says, "Oh, I got in a fight with my girlfriend and I called her a two-bit whore."

"Yeah?" asks the bartender. "What did she do?"

"She hit me with her bag of quarters!"

2 mil over 15,000 clients is only $133 bucks a piece...

I think someone's not quite telling the truth about the money or something...

The 2 mil. is probaley what she got profit. I'm sure it's more, but you got to pay the women, some bribes, expenses (hair, make-up, etc.). Not that I know or anything about prostitutes.

Man. The rehab centers around the countries are going to be packed when this list comes out.

2007-04-11 04:51:00 PM
I agree she has every right to give away the list if she wants. But-- if she put on her list "Barack Obama" or "Bill Clinton" or "Kofi Anan" or "Mitt Romney" or "Stephen Breyer," who is to say there is any accuracy to it? That is the problem I have with the press publishing hookers' "lists" like that. The names could be code, or they could just be BS by people who don't use their real names when going to the whorehouse. The "list" may not be reliable at all. I mean, I'm sure it's a shock to think that someone running a criminal enterprise would lie, but . . .

2007-04-11 04:51:23 PM
Step 1: wait until the prosecuters ask for the list, so they can bring it in as evidence.

Step 2: after the case, subpeona the prosecuters for the list with an FOIA request.

Done.

"it's going to be fun if it's more than just a bunch of no-names, and we watch a bunch of political careers implode."

My money's on no-names. Actual power players got power groupies and/or have their aids make phone calls for them. Some poor schmuck at ABC is spending his days looking up those phone records and all he's gonna get is, like, the assistant general counsel to the Congressional undercommittee for widget regulation and some long-retired lobbyist for the Association of Split-Pea Soup Manufacturers.

Wait, it's possible to ask judges for half a million bucks?

I guess that has something to do with:

Investigators have seized about $1 million worth of real estate, $500,000 in cash and stocks and $100,000 in coins

Wait..$100,000 in coins?

me2u2 said: "It's fine when regular citizens get caught soliciting prostitutes and have their names smeared all over local papers, but when the folks in DC get caught they get their reputations protected via court orders."

You are engaging in what rational individuals call a false dilemma.

In reality, unless there is a conviction there should be absolutely no publishing of names. So, for example, if you were falsely put in that list, how do you clear your name? It's the same bullshiat that gets suspected johns' names and rapists in papers before they're convicted yet protects the people who were supposedly "victimized" by them. You think people will remember Reade Seligmann's smeared and then cleared name in a better light and more than false accuser Crystal Gail Magnum in the Duke rape debacle?

Now, if there were pictures of you going in and being serviced, that might be a different story. Then I'd say hang 'em out to dry. But that's not what she has here. It's just a list. And she has no business defaming people with it unless she can prove that her customer list is authentic. She deserves to live under a bridge for the rest of her life, poor and destitute, unless she coughs up real proof.

The funny thing about this is that, even if true, a corporation would be in enormous trouble for giving customer lists out like this. I'll also bet diamonds to dollars that the list of political clients is on the opposite side of the party of record on her voter registration.

[...] Palfrey said she was having problems with her public defender and asked a judge for $500,000 to help find a private criminal attorney and witnesses for her defense.

So, they've frozen so much of her assets (without a conviction) that she's forced to go with a public defender. Way to stack the deck, Feds...

3 rules of prostitution:

#1. Always use a fake name (unless you are paying with a credit card, in which case you don't care if you get caught or not)

#2. Wear a rubber

#3. No pictures

Yep. I'm naturally skeptical, so that was pretty much my first thought too. I know a couple hot girls who are interested in politics (more interested in than informed of, I'm sad to say) and they wouldn't need money to give up the goods. And Senator X probably isn't wiping his own ass, nevermind getting his hands dirty ordering up hookers for delivery.

I guess we'll soon see...
