Sounds like the natives need to go back to head-hunting as an industrial base.

Gotta love Mother Nature, she just keeps rocking us, on. Something related to cycles...?

maRox: Something related to cycles...?

The earth is having her period? OUR EARTH IS NOW A WOMAN!

Well, I'll be damned. The fundies were right after all!

2007-04-08 12:51:56 AM
This is clearly a result of global warming.

2007-04-08 01:20:15 AM
I claim these islands on behalf of me.

Clearly, we should not be teaching gravity in our schools, and instead enlighten students about the Big Holy Magnet theory.

2007-04-08 02:01:31 AM
I wouldn't mind having some of that live rock for my new tank.

2007-04-08 02:04:33 AM
I blame global warming.

The divine mystery of the spitty-slurpy pretty much destroys 'modern science'.

It's a conspiracy by the Australian plate to move northeast when the Pacific plate doesn't want to let it.

/Farallon plate, reached for comment in the Earth's mantle, stated "mmmf mmmf mrgl *creak* fnrk fnrk"

Im pretty sure mother nature is going through menopause, what with all the hot flashes.

FredaDeStilleto: Sounds like the natives need to go back to head-hunting as an industrial base.

That still poses the problem of how to attract tourists.

On the beach at Niu Barae, the earthquake has revealed a sunken vessel that locals believe is a Japanese patrol boat, a remnant of the fierce fighting between Allied forces and the Japanese in WWII.

Useless without pics. :(

Why does the seismic jolt hate the coral?!?

2007-04-08 02:10:40 AM
Instead of dogmatically teaching gravity as established fact, we should teach the controversy. A growing number of scientists are questioning the scientific validity of Newtonism.

2007-04-08 02:11:34 AM
Well, at least they can now start selling polished coral jewelry.

2007-04-08 02:12:48 AM
Which theory of Gravity is this supposed to go against? Newton's or Einstein's?

You know the two theories contradict each other so at least one must be wrong.

2007-04-08 02:13:04 AM
Hey, for once it isn't us killing the reef.

2007-04-08 02:13:34 AM
Suck it, Holland. The islands had it done for them.

2007-04-08 02:15:06 AM
Tectonic plates should start buying coral-offsets to make up for some of its destruction.

Let me get this straight: they think their diving industry will die because things that were 3 meters under water are now exposed to the air? Don't most divers go more than just 3 meters below the surface?

Snarky McFarkerson

Don't know if you were serious, but the coral that constitutes reefs (and not shoreline) is not the same type used in jewelry. Gorgonian corals (sea fans, soft corals) are used to make jewelry, not brain or staghorn coral.

Some of the best colour, and most vibrant biodiversity is in very shallow water because it needs the sunlight to thrive. *I feel like a dork*

The scub corals aren't going to like this.

She said the reefs around Ranongga were a protected marine environment and locals had worked hard with WWF in recent years to ensure that they were managed sustainably.

There is no gravity, the earth sucks.

How can we blame Bush for this though?

frostus: Do you have a flag?

I'll claim it. I don't have a flag but...

I have a mouse under the table, a cat in a chair, and a monkey on a branch.

Oh, and I'm the president of Burundi.

Did Bush even try to stop this earthquake? No. He was too busy playing war.

Weren't island dwellers just complaining that global warming would sink their islands? The solution is here!

2007-04-08 03:24:07 AM
I had no idea that an earthquake could raise an island by 10 feet in one day! I thought it took thousands of years just to raise the elevation of any part of the earth's crust one inch!

2007-04-08 03:26:19 AM
gravity is a theory, the earth just SUCKS!!1ELEVENTY

/yeah

2007-04-08 03:26:50 AM
They're lucky, when the water starts rising they'll be just fine, depending on how much it rises.

xen0blue: I had no idea that an earthquake could raise an island by 10 feet in one day! I thought it took thousands of years just to raise the elevation of any part of the earth's crust one inch!

Not when an earthquake is involved. They can raise or lower huge areas of terrain in mere moments. Islands can be raised or completely disappear.

hmmm rethink gravity eh....

what about gravity being the 4th and 5th dimensions, applied to matter only and not space/volumewhatever, with time being the 6th?

that should bring sense to those Dr. Phil shows where 99% of the audience is fat people gravitating toward him. network tv shows are the new galaxys of spinning gas giants and i have no idea where the fark my this came from.

/note to self: less xanax, more weed.
//ArkAngel seems to have found the convenient truth

2007-04-08 03:51:09 AM
damn, if global warming happened just a little faster those reefs could of been saved!

HairBolus: Which theory of Gravity is this supposed to go against? Newton's or Einstein's?

Newton's is close enough for everyday usage. It's when you gotta figure REALLY exactly that you use the more modern version.

Terrible writing. I don't understand why every sentence needs its own paragraph.
