to be fair, it's kind of ironic...repairmen lit the shop on fire, not the fire-barber

What kind of maniac goes to a barber that sets your hair on fire? Never mind the saftey issues, have you ever smelled burning hair? Horrible.
2007-04-07 11:56:38 PM
You know, I bet you couldn't pay Michael Jackson enough to get his hair cut there.
2007-04-07 11:56:52 PM
And he's just too busy
Busy, busy
Busy scissors, whoa whoa

What sort of benefits are there of burning hair over the normal cutting? Does the smell somehow turn these people on?

You keep using that word. I do not think that means what you think it means.
2007-04-08 12:01:53 AM
That doesn't seem ironic at all. That's EXACTLY what I would expect to happen.

2007-04-08 12:03:53 AM
Fire extinguisher company catches on fire & burns to the ground because there were no charged fire exinguishers= Ironic.

This=not so much.
2007-04-08 12:03:59 AM
You keep using that word..., I do not think it means what you think it means.

//In other news, Anna Nicole Smith is still dead.
2007-04-08 12:05:10 AM
The headline doesn't make it sufficiently clear that it is ironic.

FTFA: He was quick to point out that the structure fire had nothing to do with his unusual technique. He said that air conditioning repairmen were "sweating the pipes" with butane torches when the fire occurred.
2007-04-08 12:07:33 AM
I'm jamming to that NWA classic fark Tha Irony Police right now. Great song.

Store that sells flood proofing materials washed away in flood = Ironic

dumbstudent2002: In other news, Anna Nicole Smith is still dead.

She is?
Mother of God, I had no idea she even died in the first place. If only the media would inform us of such things.
2007-04-08 12:09:41 AM
And here's the youtube link of the technique.

/the story is somewhat ironic
//subby's headline isn't ironic, though.

"I have a terrible headache. It feels like my head is on fire. OH GOD"
2007-04-08 12:11:11 AM
That's not irony, that's only a matter of time.
2007-04-08 12:11:53 AM
Headline is about as ironic... as raiiiin on your wedddding day!

/Yes, it's raining men.
2007-04-08 12:12:15 AM
JerseyTim hit the nail on the head.

Burnt hair could make tobacco-chewing, whiskey-swilling slaughterhouse worker gag.
2007-04-08 12:12:21 AM
Irony is a form of speech in which the real meaning is concealed or contradicted by the words used. Irony involves the perception that things are not what they are said to be or what they seem. Dramatic irony lies in the audience's deeper perceptions of a coming fate, which contrast with a character's lack of knowledge about said fate. A common metaphor for using irony is to "have your tongue in cheek".
2007-04-08 12:15:54 AM
Just stopped in to ask if beer was involved.

Reedmo: to be fair, it's kind of ironic...repairmen lit the shop on fire, not the fire-barber

/not submitter

See, I like that. There are many perspectives. I admit to immediately thinking "not ironic", but there are parts that are, so why get all riled up!
2007-04-08 12:17:29 AM
Once, where I grew up, there was a heavy rainstorm, which caused a swimming pool to slide down a hill and crash into a house, which caused it to burn down. Sucks for the owner of the house, but it still gives me a chuckle to think about the situation.
2007-04-08 12:17:36 AM
I just wanted to stop by and point out that this does not qualify as irony, in case someone hadn't done that yet.
2007-04-08 12:18:40 AM
someone stop alanis from submitting any more headlines.
2007-04-08 12:20:43 AM
It's funny 'cuz apparently it is kind of ironic, but you people automatically come in here with the same pre-formulated comments you farking sons of biatches
2007-04-08 12:21:01 AM
I'm not black enough to have my hair style with fire.

Oh, come to think of it, I'm not black at all.

2007-04-08 12:21:20 AM
So if an ordinary barber cut himself with scissors, would that be ironic too?
2007-04-08 12:22:42 AM
I think it's scary when my barber pulls out the straight razor.
2007-04-08 12:29:36 AM
I had 11 Jack and Coke's tonight at a high-end resuraunt. When the waiter brought the bill, it was over $172. Ironic? I think not? Drunk enough to pay the bill than read Fark abour irony? YES!

Consulting dictionary and thesaras about ironic? NO! I'm too drunk! I'll take the previous 20+ posters word........NOT IRONIC!

Drunk? Yes. Ironic? Maybe. Fark definition? NO! OK....that's good enough for my jack and coke'd ass.

//double slashies.
////And time for my 12th Jack and Coke!
2007-04-08 12:31:55 AM
So here's the skiddy

The story was ironic, in a cosmic irony sense. The guy uses fire to cut hair, but some repairman burns his shop down.

See this for further reference:

The headline, however, was not ironic. The tag plus the headline = pissed off farkers.
2007-04-08 12:51:16 AM

I have been waiting for a good-old fashioned "You're doing it wrong" thread and all I see is a tired old Nelson.

Hook me up !!!
2007-04-08 01:34:33 AM
Flagrant abuse of the Irony tag. Ten-yard penalty.

However, it is my understanding that the proprietor of the shop is a black man. So make of that what you will.
2007-04-08 01:50:39 AM
It would be far more ironic if it was destroyed by flood.
2007-04-08 01:51:45 AM
It's actually ironic if you read the article. The fire haircutting treatment had nothing to do with the fire.
2007-04-08 02:13:59 AM
Ironic Bound to happen

i may just not be a careful reader, but i find it ironic that in this thread no one has yet defined the word.

Irony is nothing more than the OPPOSITE happening of what one would EXPECT to happen.

TO "shanrick
Uh-oh. Here come the irony nazis."

it's a simple, uncontroversial topic. why be a moranic asshole and use a word wrong? what do gain from it? there's nothing wrong with being annoyed at people deliberately refusing to consult a dictionary.
another horrible misuse of a word is the word "disinterested." it does not mean "uninterested."
why ruin the language? would you rather we all just grunt or talk like those filthy ghetto turds polluting the television with their 'kno wha iz sayin' argot?
the world as a whole is going to shiat, and so is the language. fark it. IM LUCKY IM 30ISH WHITE AND MALE IN THIS COUNTRY NOW, BEFORE APOCALYPS HITS. too bad you fat kiddies, too bad 3rd world over acheiver. you lose.
