If the Habs win, they go to the playoffs. If the Leafs win, they go to the bar and cheer for the Devils on Sunday, because they'll still need help to get into the playoffs.

This is the SIXTH hockey thread today... is everybody feeling okay up there?

anyone else see Anaheim gag away the chance to clinch the Pacific not once, but TWICE.

Dallas scored to tie the game with 6 seconds left in regulation. Then Selanne had a chance to win it in the shootout and rang the post. Incredible!

Nope, sorry, but if the Habs win they are in regardless of what the Islanders do, the Islander need the Leafs to win.

Habs will have 92 points and 43 wins if they take this game, the Islanders can get 93 points but with only 40 wins. Habs take it on the tie-breaker.

I'm gonna root for Montreal 'cause I'm a Sens fan and therefore, Toronto sucks.

But I'd still love the Sens to get some retribution against the Leafs in the playoffs. But that ain't happenin' this year. (Even if the Leafs make it in, they ain't beating Buffalo. That chore will be reserved for the Senators.)

On the one hand, it would be amusing for the leafs to win, just to string leafs fans along for a little longer, because they're not going to win anything in the playoffs if they make it, which they wont.

On the other hand, I do take much joy from watching leafs fans flop around like dead fish when all hope is lost, and the sooner it happens, the better.

I'm so conflicted! Why does God love me so?

Isles up 3-0.

It's looking less and less implausible that the Isles snag the 8th spot. I hope to see it happen.

I'd love to see both Toronto and Montreal left out in the cold, and shut both those fanbases up, after they've been hyping tonight's game as if it's the game of the century or something.

2007-04-07 02:38:57 PM
Sabres up 2-0 after two.

If Buffalo holds on to win, they win their first President's Trophy in franchise history, regardless of how much Detroit beats up on Chicago.

2007-04-07 03:54:08 PM
There's a lot more riding on this than getting into the playoffs for Montreal. This is make or break time for Guy Carbonneau and his staff. A first round elimination wouldn't be bad, they'll just build for next year. Miss the playoffs completely, changes will be made on all levels. I have always been a big fan of Guy and his assistant Kirk Muller. Two good people that I hope to see behind the bech next year.

And oh yeah, LEAFS BLOW!

I'm a Leafs fan and I honestly hope they lose tonight. I just want the the ridiculous "if we make the playoffs, we could win the cup! Look at Edmonton last year" talk to end. This team is a pile of crap. Sundin is NOT worth $6mil, McMuffin isn't anywhere near a $2mil player let alone a $5.5mil player. Kubina is the largest waste of money in the NHL this year (even more than Samsonov). JFJ is the worst GM in hockey. He's a nice guy, but has no ability to judge the value of hockey players. Bad trades, bad contracts ... all around just BAD. Hopefully two years of no playoffs might convince the teachers to put an experienced President/GM in place like what they did with the Raptors. Sigh. Oh yeah ... and they should fire Richard Peddie.

/sorry ... venting
//I hate Leafs fans who aren't hockey fans

Isles beat Philly 4-2.

I think the Leafs are now the least likely team to make it.

Montreal controls their own destiny. Win and they're in. Even if they lose in OT/SO, they can still get in with an Isles loss tomorrow.

Isles can get in as long as Montreal fails to get 2 points tonight. If the Habs lose in regulation or OT/SO, then the Isles will control their own destiny tomorrow afternoon. They will also be facing a win-and-in situation.

The Leafs are the longest shot remaining. Not only must they win in regulation tonight (a win in OT/SO will still eliminate them), but they also need for the Isles to lose tomorrow. Even if Toronto wins tonight in regulation, they don't control their playoff destiny.

So if I have it figured correctly, the likelihood of each team making the playoffs now goes Montreal > Isles > Toronto.

This win was made even sweeter by the fact that I was watching it in a room full of my in-laws who are habs fans.

Word on the internets is that Clemmenson (or whatever the fark the guy's name is who backs up Brodeur) is getting the start tomorrow.

shiat, hopefully the Islanders are pooped from their game with... THE FLYERS??? OH WE'RE farkED!!

2007-04-08 01:03:52 AM
Clemmensen? Oooh. Someone better tell the Leafs fans.

I don't know about that, Brodeur plays and the Devils win, he gets the season win record to himself. He doesn't/he loses and the Canucks win with Luongo, they're tied.

2007-04-08 01:08:11 AM
"Brodeur, though, figures to play as he is one appearance shy of his 79th of the season, which would match Grant Fuhr's NHL record set in 1995-96 with St. Louis. A victory in this game would give him 92 over last season and this season, one more than Hall of Famer Bernie Parent had with the Flyers in back-to-back seasons (1973-74 and 1974-75)." - ESPN.com.

Guess we'll see.

robsul82: I don't know about that, Brodeur plays and the Devils win, he gets the season win record to himself. He doesn't/he loses and the Canucks win with Luongo, they're tied.

C'mon now, what's more important to the Devils? A regular season record for Brodeur, or risking injury to their important players in a meaningless game (to them) on the eve of the playoffs?

This game means nothing to New Jersey. They have nothing to gain and their playoff seed is set. The main goal of the Devils in this game should be avoiding injury to key players. Time to send in the scrubs, if there ever was one.

I'm not happy to see the Leafs get bounced, but I'm glad to see the Isles get in.

Who knows WTF the Isles' owner was thinking with his moves before the season... but congrats to them because it worked. And it's satisfying to see the Isles make it after the Edmonton Divelers gave up Ryan Smyth.

And then you've got Ted Nolan taking his Islanders against Buffalo. That'll be good to see.
