The one that blares audio CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE WON A FREE IPOD takes the cake.

These days, I honestly don't know if I could surf the web without Adblock.

Serslah.

Oh God that one pisses me off markie_farkie and I've got pop-up blockers and spyware blockers up the yinyang, but there is one site I go to that has the most annoying pop-ups, unders, etc...and it's not even porn. Too bad it's also the best site for what it does.

2007-04-06 01:34:27 PM
I nominate "Classmates.com" for its own category

2007-04-06 01:36:04 PM
I did this once about 5+ years ago.

/ads were much less annoying back then

2007-04-06 02:00:22 PM
The combination of Adblock plus the filter-set and I havent seen an ad in over a year.

/And no mention of the FarkTV ad?

AdBlock and Click-To-Flashiathink I would have stopped using the Internet, including Fark.com, a long time ago had it not been for those tools.

I recall about a year ago where I pulled a number out of my ass and said that Flash-based ads were responsible for the creation of several tons of CO2 into our atmosphere.

Look at your CPU's utilization number on a page w/o Flash ads (my A64/3800 is in power save mode @ ~1% utilization right now). Then look at it again with a Flash ad (my A64/3800 jumps out of power save mode and peaks @ 100% utilization).

Multiply that by a bunch of numbers and you get a huge increase in power used around the world to generate flash ads.

Not Available

FYI, your image just made it onto my AdBlock filter list. :)

What no dancing mortgage people?

2007-04-06 03:14:36 PM
Ads like that are why I only come here and to

zombo.com

/I can get everything done there

What about the ones that have flash that go beyond the actual ad space? Those drive me absolutely nuts. Particularly when I go to click a link, and lo and behold, there's a freaking car driving across my screen, that I click on instead, because it gets in the way.

The Denver Post used to have banner ads for a local auto dealership. They would take over your entire screen and the car would vrooooom across the screen. I wanted to take a softball bat to the grey matter of whoever came up with that one.

I'm with bean4554, I wish pain and suffering (preferably of extremely long duration) on whoever is responsible for those damned dancing people mortgage ads.

2007-04-06 03:17:12 PM
There are still banner ads on the Internet? Huh. I did not know that.

2007-04-06 03:18:07 PM
Dunno, there is pretty annoying ads on the top of the Fark main page.

2007-04-06 03:18:12 PM
What about those faux webcam ads for Match.com where the girls don't take their clothes off?

2007-04-06 03:18:14 PM
Dancing homeowners FTW.

2007-04-06 03:18:20 PM
Where can I get one of those? I have Panicware's Pop-Up blocker, and it's pretty damned effective, but even so, there's a few that still manage to get through.

What really annoys me is websites that have ads all over their pages. I don't care to see a looping Match.com ad every time I refresh the page in the hopes that I'll get a less-annoying ad.

Put ads back where they belong...on TV, in the commercials.

2007-04-06 03:18:41 PM
there arent many that cant be ignored except for the ones with loud audio you cant turn off. nothing removes you from that particular page/site and never returning faster than those.

It's the only website you'll ever need.

People still see banner ads?

2007-04-06 03:20:52 PM
That farking stupid dancing shadow couple or cowboy makes me want to stab my monitor with my scissors!

Also, I Google for "Guitar Tabs" all the time and there is this one site with a sound clip that plays some annoying teenage girl's voice that says, "Congratulations, you have won two, ipod nannos" or something like that. Of course, I always have my speakers cranked cause I'm listening to MP3's at the time and she scares the shiat out of me.

2007-04-06 03:20:59 PM
The Fark TV ad didn't make the cut?

No no. The buzzing bee in an ad on tvtorrents.com drove me insane. Opera has a GREAT implementation to block the ads, but Opera has numerous bugs and doesn't work right yet on 9.0. So, I have to live with them.

2007-04-06 03:22:30 PM
hmm

firefox + adblock + mike's ad blocking hosts file

i've not seen an ad in years...

2007-04-06 03:22:59 PM
Anything that makes noise.

2007-04-06 03:23:25 PM
I don't like the ones that fade in from the background on imdb and I can't get rid of them with adblock.

2007-04-06 03:23:31 PM
nothing beats CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE WON A FREE IPOD as has been said by others.

/most annoying ad EVER
//seriously had to put my speakers on mute even though I was listening to music at the time.

i'd still be using opera if it had a farkit extension.... is there one?

Did anyone else mention how Firebox plus adblock is SOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOLLLLLL?????

/if not, then I just did
//haha, my browser is better than your browser
///or something

2007-04-06 03:24:31 PM
That was lame.. There are worse banner adds than those. The mortgage dancing people, animals, anything with that freaking mortgage company. Anything that flashes so that I have a seizure while I am trying to do something. Then there is this annoying windows one I ran into yesterday. I thought it was because of windows but it only happened on this one website..and it was about weight loss.. IT DROVE ME NUTS. So yeah anything that resembles any kind of error window.

2007-04-06 03:24:46 PM
All your addblocking programs/plugins/extensions are belong to fixing your HOSTS file. Works with every browser.

You also get the added benefit of blocking most viruses/trojans/3rd party unauthorized software. It is also updated weekly or so with new IP addresses. Oh, did I mention it is free and doesn't take any memory to run?

Go here:

How about those slide-over text ads that appear on some technical forums. Short of disabling Javascript. I don't know of a way around them.

Of course the most annoying ads I see are the "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED!!! CLICK HERE TO FIX IT!"

My favorite? Centipedes in the Vag...

2007-04-06 03:25:47 PM
Dancing silhouette mortgage people. I'd like 'em better if they were chalk outlines.

2007-04-06 03:26:01 PM
I agree, since changing to FF and adding AdBlock I've not had any problems. It's sweet.

2007-04-06 03:27:17 PM
And what the page looks like with Firefox and AdBlock Plus:

I second that, Buzzard. she infuriates me.

second the OMG, NO WAY smiley thing. That almost made me quit FARK.

This is still one of my (least favorite) images. Caution, possibly not work safe, and may cause lasting emotional trauma related to images of Santa and Uncle Sam. I know it still gives me nightmares...

"I'm counting down the minutes until I can be with you again."

2007-04-06 03:28:09 PM
The emoticons ad annoys me the most.

2007-04-06 03:28:22 PM
The "Outdrink the fratboy" "Outdrink Santa" "You Lose!" ones top my list. Hate them, hate them, hate them!

I get my revenge by not having the slightest idea what it is they're supposed to be advertising. The ultimate mark of a failed ad is having no idea what on earth it's talking about. It's still not as satisfying as a baseball bat to the ad creator's head, but it's all I've got to work with.

2007-04-06 03:28:45 PM
Ugh, anything that makes noise is the worst.
