you know, he might just be onto something.

Submitter, the article says that without immigration, the cities' populations would be dropping, which isn't as obvious.

Someone get that funny animated gif of Romero. You know the one.

Is Ric an immigrant?

HOLY shiat!!!!!

2007-04-05 01:50:04 PM
Except that's not what the article says at all. Dropping is not equal to "less"

Are submitters getting more retarded? The US is dependant on immigration to keep our population steady. Without it we would be a declining population.

This is obvious. The only reason the US population is growing is because of immigrants.

2007-04-05 01:50:53 PM
Is this supposed to be an argument for immigration?

2007-04-05 01:51:15 PM
I still laugh out loud at those Romero headlines..

FTA: "The New York metro area, which includes suburbs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania,"

Odd, I've lived here my entire life, and the "tri-state area" has always been New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. I recently moved back to CT, and we still get NY channels, and I still work in New York.

We're not as bad as Europe with declining birth rates, but we are getting close. We will need increased immigration in the future in order to stay competitive, though.

Illegal immigrants live in the cities Americans are too lazy to live in?

2007-04-05 01:52:11 PM
2-1=1. Intriguing, I would like to know more. Of course the obvious part is that immigrants tend to have more kids which increases the population. Without them I guess we'd be in the same situation as Japan. Not that a little populating thinning would be a bad thing.

I say we shoot all immigrants, all future immigrants and all past immigrants. They are just here to ruin our way of life, steal our land, and kill us.

They stabilize the population cause somehow the immigrants in the cities manage to fit 50 to a house.

You assume that it is always beneficial for a city to continously grow. The population of the US needs to grow, but does a city really need to grow?

"Maybe those metro areas should think about what it would take to make Americans want to live there," Camarota said.

I got one: how 'bout them uppity yuppie women stay home home, cook, clean, and make dinner fo' yo' man. Just like in the 1950s before the feminazis wanted to be like men.

Yeah!

But might non-immigrants be leaving large cities to avoid the immigrants?

the world may never know.

mikelowe: They stabilize the population cause somehow the immigrants in the cities manage to fit 50 to a house.

I passed by a trailer in one of the Mexican shantytowns in the area that had a mock parking lot in front of it for the 18 people living in it.

Exactly. Xenophobia is not going to help our problem. We have always depended on immigrants and that trend is not going to change anytime soon.

2007-04-05 01:58:30 PM
Oh darn, that only means we wouldn't have the poor crowded into the ghettos of the cities. Stop immigration!

2007-04-05 01:58:39 PM
Piece of crap spin piece.

TFA: if it wasn't for those wonderful immigrants, cities would suffer smaller population numbers.

Reality: ah hell, this city is being overrun by third worlders and Californians, let's get the hell outta here.

Example: Denver, Colorado.

I assume nothing, just asking a question, especially since the pictures linked to the article is a pro-immigration rally.

Submitter does not know the difference between a change and a rate of change. Submitter fails calculus.

We are going through a nearly full blown nativist backlash right now. Which isn't new, if any of you have seen Gangs of New York. Immigration and increasing population are good things for the economy (more people = more intellectual capital, and intellectual capital is exponential, while resource drain is only marginal). However, I recognize that it is bad for some people in the short term if they lose their jobs and have to find better ones. That's the only area the government needs to be involved in; helping displaced people get back on their feet.

I like living in the cities, and find CNN to be ridiculously liberal.
I vote for the living like a sardine can theory. City housing/rent is beyond expensive, and the only way one can afford it is live in a place with like 20-40 other people. Which new immigrants are known for. Meanwhile us spoiled Americanized US citizens are looking for suburbia, in hopes of affordable housing.

2007-04-05 02:03:30 PM
If you took all the illegals out of Phoenix there'd be no more restaurants, hotels or construction companies.

Please make your opinion known.

Is the "Ric Romero" cliche best employed when.

A) It refers to any statement that is patently obvious such as "the Sun is a star."

B) It refers to an article that covers a trend whose time has long passed and has already been reported on by others. Such as, "Blogging is sweeping the web!"

C) Either A or B.

My answer is B since A is just plain "Dur!"

To me a true "Romero" is earned when a topic that has already been covered by the media and whose newness has worn off is presented again as being new and newsworthy. As would be the case if a story were to come out today about the "Nintendo Wii's revolutiony new controller."

In my book Obvious doesn't equate with Romero. A Romero is yesterday's well known trend/factoid being reported again as news.

I know. Everytime somebody brings up making English the official language of the US I can see just how much fear and bigotry is boiling in the veins of many Americans.

I think we're going through more of a soft, mealy sort of nativist backlash. It can (and may) get much, much worse.

Sure, we don't have the effects of a lot of violence. I think that's more in tune with having a more lawful culture, and the fact that the nativists use the law as their justification. They would have no basis for their reasoning, beyond rank xenophobia, to become violent.

RTFA Subby. If you're going to bash CNN, at least try and bash it for an article that (i) actually says what you think it says and (ii) is actually a unique product of CNN and not reported on every other news site known to man.

If this crap gets the greenlight, can we at least get a "Ric Romero has apparently been hired by Fox News, reporting if you take immigrants out of major cities, the major cities will have fewer people living there" Then every partisan moron who attacks media outlets can bask in their self-righteous fury.

Fewer brown people to sop up the vomits and pee! OHNOES!

If you'd just spend time in any Walmart, you'd realize that there are plenty of uneducated, lowIQ, trashy, ugly white people that could be pressed into America's most shaitty jerbs.
