If this isn't the most sensational, moronic article I have ever read on Fark, I don't know what is.

Here's the opening line:

They are deadly, huge and fast moving. Their tentacles can suck the life out of a human being and they've arrived in Northern California.

"They are deadly, huge and fast moving. Their tentacles can suck the life out of a human being and they've arrived in Northern California."

Opening line of Jules Verne overlooked and hyperbolic apocolyptic vision of the multi-ARMed killer that terrorizes the Northern Californian real estate market of the future "Twenty Million Homeowners Out Of Their League"

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down to the pond and chasing calimari and octopi. This squid, swallow you whole. No shakin', no tenderizin', down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, Chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tentacles, the whole damn thing.

stingrza: The video is even worse: "No one knows why, but for three years now, fishing boats out of Bodega Bay have been catching the INK-SPEWING FISH in droves!"

I don't think these are giant squid, BTW - They look like Humboldt squid, and those things are kinda nasty.

Everybody panic! Huge deadly squid has invaded Northern Cal.

Surf dude seen commenting on subject said: Dude, wait... what?

"They get up to about 100 pounds, (and) eight feet long! Eight feet of fighting fury," Powers said.

Oh no! That's almost as big as a small great white shark!

Subbys driving me nuts.
arrr.

2007-04-03 09:45:30 PM
Arr, Matey, that be the downside to "tucking."

2007-04-03 10:44:41 PM
They're gonna need more marinara.

2007-04-03 10:45:15 PM
"We think its due to warm water"

Mmmmm k...nice that science is werkin' for ya.

2007-04-03 10:45:51 PM
I for one...

2007-04-03 10:46:44 PM
Someone needs to explain to them that the tentacle porn lovers are to the west of California by about 3000 miles...

2007-04-03 10:48:21 PM
Listened to the report, last I checked 8 feet was nothing for Giant Squid, and I don't recall them hunting in packs. It's almost as if no one at the news station knows that there is a creature called a giant squid.

Thank you crummy news station, there will be thousands in a panic when they imagine thousands of actual giant squid roaming the seas just outside their door.

Where's Captain Nemo when you need him?

2007-04-03 10:48:36 PM
Man goes in the water. Squid is in the water. Squid sucks the life out of man. Squid eats man.

Man catches squid. Man fries the life out of squid. Man applies lemon to squid. Man eats squid.

The circle of life is complete.

2007-04-03 10:49:06 PM
The tentacles suck the life out of a human how again?

2007-04-03 10:49:38 PM
it's global warming isn't it?

OMG I just knew it!

2007-04-03 10:50:15 PM
Well if you're going to barbecue them you don't have to worry about them falling through the grill.

2007-04-03 10:50:26 PM
Are those the porn tentacles?

2007-04-03 10:50:31 PM
We'll be forced to go through Moria

2007-04-03 10:50:39 PM
Bodega Bay should be happy that it's squid this time and not birds.

2007-04-03 10:51:02 PM
FTFA:
Giant squid make for good eating. They can be broiled, baked, fried or barbecued. And are considered a delicacy. Just know they are also cannibalistic.

Apparently both man and squid are in agreement that squid are delicious.

2007-04-03 10:51:03 PM
I'm sure this is related to 9/11 some how.

2007-04-03 10:51:16 PM
But do they, you know, put out like the prairie squid do?

2007-04-03 10:52:40 PM
They aren't fish. They're cephalopods.

/More kudos to the press.

2007-04-03 10:53:03 PM
Barbecue time?

2007-04-03 10:53:30 PM
8 feet? Meh. Call me when the 25 foot colossal squid arrive.

2007-04-03 10:54:54 PM
8ft? Are they talking about a different giant squid? I thought those things could get up to 50ft and a couple hundred pounds?

Cage goes in the water. You go in the water. Squid's in the water. Our squid.

Farewell and a adieu to ye fare Spanish ladies...

2007-04-03 10:56:49 PM
It's like they don't know that there's actually something called a giant squid.

2007-04-03 10:58:59 PM
I have a big deep fryer, a bottle of cocktail sauce, a bag of flour, and experience as a professional fry cook.

I am prepared for the squid invasion.
Calamari anyone?

brap: "They are deadly, huge and fast moving. Their tentacles can suck the life out of a human being and they've arrived in Northern California."

It's a perfect description of the Biatch and her gang of ho's that make up our Human Resources department.

To arms, me hearties! The scurvy seamonsters standn't a chance versus cold steel, garr.

They can be broiled, baked, fried or barbecued. And are considered a delicacy.

How about you, Shogun? Can I press you to a rice cake? How about some lovely squid on a stick?

Was expecting "stuff of novels and miniseries," before reading they've been gone,
wait for it, last paragraph,

TWO WEEKS!

2007-04-03 11:08:59 PM
I agree with rikdanger. They're Humboldt squids. 6-8 feet, sort of edible. Not all squids make good eatin' - small ones are sweeter.

Those Giant Squids they're talking about come from *much* deeper and colder waters...

/has degree in marine science
//mostly studied fish behaviour and Antarctic krill
///likes calamari w/marinara, lemon, and red wine

2007-04-03 11:09:04 PM
That's not a small giant squid. That's Cthulhus Lautrec.

2007-04-03 11:10:18 PM
Cool...well..warm. This probably means that the warm waters are moving North this year. Stormy weather ahead, but in between the storms sport fishing off the central California coast should be great. A good el nino year often gets tuna in closer to shore and brings some fish like marlin and sailfish hundreds of miles farther North than they ordinarily roam.

Are these Giant Squid as in Architeuthis, or giant squid as in "squid that are larger than what is typically expected"?

2007-04-03 11:12:06 PM
I've seen these critters in a feeding frenzy in Mexico. They make sharks look like goldfish.

2007-04-03 11:13:44 PM
I went to Japan to get me some of that tentacle sex but all she wanted to do was cuttle.

2007-04-03 11:14:18 PM
Meanwhile, in Japan, Toho seizes the opportunity to cash in on the sensation and remake "Yog: Monster From Space" to lackluster reviews.

Warning: This post has no relevance, and I was just looking for an excuse to subreference Kaiju movies somehow.

TibrisXVII: Are these Giant Squid as in Architeuthis, or giant squid as in "squid that are larger than what is typically expected"?

They screwed up the "squid are fish" thing, so yeah, I vote for that.
