On the contrary that is even more of a reason to send them thru the "Perp Walk". Farkin Crooks!

2002-08-14 05:34:04 PM
high public position and stature = public arrest

2002-08-14 06:04:12 PM
My parents were arrested on live TV news. They were convicted. Lost jobs, everything. Then the conviction was overturned. Think they got their jobs back? They did! But still people come up to them and say they remember them on the news. My parents are NOT rich. The wealthy need the same, if not worse, treatment.

2002-08-14 06:25:15 PM
Except, it was ANOTHER civil liberties group.

2002-08-14 06:25:55 PM
If the wealthy aren't going to be humiliated by public arrest, then something else humiliating, maybe physicallly intrusive, needs to happen instead.

2002-08-14 06:26:16 PM
THAT'S NOT THE ACLU!

There's never an endless supply of dumbasses.

2002-08-14 06:26:48 PM
Now they need to lock'em up with a big named Bubba..."you MY little puppy now, you shore do hav'a perty mouth..."

2002-08-14 06:26:59 PM
the ACLU wouldn't say something like that

2002-08-14 06:27:10 PM
The real people: New York Civil Liberties Union

2002-08-14 06:27:30 PM
The New York Civil Liberties Union is not the ACLU asshat

2002-08-14 06:27:48 PM
guy

2002-08-14 06:28:29 PM
They need to be arrested in public MORE than normal people. It's more humiliatiing for them!!

2002-08-14 06:28:52 PM
The NYCLU is not the ACLU. Arrested != guilty. The guy in question handed himself in. Police should not be in the business of "making news": they do their job, and leave the journalists to theirs.

The "Perp Walk" should be illegal no matter who it is.

Seems to be they're the ACLU:

2002-08-14 06:31:42 PM
Bottom line: Crime don't pay. When you break the law and get caught you deserve what you get. I don't give a sh#t how rich you are. They should bring back the black and white striped suits with the ball and chain and little hat.

2002-08-14 06:31:48 PM
im not all that poor myself at all but this deserves it:

It must be worse losing hundreds of millions of dollars than having nothing to lose at all. Their money must be their souls being taken away. Light a candle for these unfortunate spawns of satan that will be returning home in the core of hell. Poor souls.

2002-08-14 06:32:15 PM
If the cops have to get you, then you should be paraded around hotied. If you turn yourself in, I think a little more decorum is in order

2002-08-14 06:32:24 PM
YO STUPID - it is not the ACLU.

just wanted to join in on that!

2002-08-14 06:32:27 PM
This is more a case of the Bush administration wanting to look like it was tough on corporate crime after the Enron/WorldCom fiascos.

Not that Rigas isn't guilty as hell, but he was really paraded around for the cameras to make sure that it hit all the media outlets.

Giving the public an scapegoat was easier than enacting meaningful reforms, which the Bush administration doesn't want to do. (See Haliburton/Harkin)

If your are a criminal your a criminal, It shouldn't matter if you are rich or not. Social status doesn't change the fact that you broke the law and now are subject to arrest anyway the arresting officals see fit (except the whole beat your A$$ for no reason arresting style).

come on!, guys, he's "an extremely decent man."

2002-08-14 06:33:12 PM
i like our country because we believe we are all there for each other and shiat..but really we are the greediest country in the history of the world.....and the rich always get away with it..oh sure..they might have to live in a nice little room at luxury prison for a few years..but isn't a hundred million worth 3 years of your life? Yes

2002-08-14 06:33:35 PM
That was "hogtied"

2002-08-14 06:34:10 PM
doesn't punishing someone by forcing a walk of shame through dozens of cameras and reports assume guilt? since we are still (in theory at least) opporating under an innocent until proven guilty system and since i think most people would agree that law enforcement should not be in the business of feeding the media circus or punishing people thorugh public humiliation I do not see why accused people (rich or not, famous or not) cannot just go down to the local police department and turn them selves in upon notification of their impending arrest. why shouldn't the athorities ask people to turn themselves in rather than go arrest someone publically? this seems civil and practical assuming we are not deal with a situation in which the accused may run.

2002-08-14 06:34:26 PM
Is an atomic wedgie walk uncontitutional ? How about a nice towel-snapping fest ?

2002-08-14 06:35:21 PM
Being a white collar executive who rolls in bank off the low-wage earning hard work of others, and then stealing on top of that does not make an extremely decent man. Fraud and theft and who knows what all else are not decent.

Slap the cuffs on 'em and go. There is no consideration for those who say the crimes they commit are "for their children, so they'll have everything they need", so why should there be consideration for this guy? Does his extreme wealth somehow mean he has more moral calibre than poor criminals? How is stealing at all, especially when you already have more than you could ever possibly need, moral in any way??

2002-08-14 06:35:32 PM
I blame myself. Un-con-sti-tu-tion-al. Bah.

2002-08-14 06:36:13 PM
why can't corporate crooks get the LAPD treatment? Damm|t, I want to see one of those c*ck suckers punched in the face, slammed over the hood of a cop car, then beaten repeatedly with clubs, though it's less than they deserve.

2002-08-14 06:37:02 PM
Police will routinely agree before the fact to let violent criminals turn themselves in. This is a tactic to decrease the humiliation of being arrested and engender a sense of trust between the cops and the alleged criminal. Dragging old men out of high-rises through a pre-arranged press gauntlet just because they are rich and well known is Big-Brother governmental posturing at it's most frightening. I am amazed at so many Farkers, usually an intelligent bunch, automatically jumping on the "if they are rich, they automatically deserve to fry" pro-fascist bandwagon. These people are innocent until PROVEN guilty, folks.I think this is where the third horseman appears.

Bastards deserved it. So do all the asshats at Enron.

Days Since Enron Collapse-- 254. Arrests-- 0.

Rich crooks aught to get paraded around, and have their lives ruined. We need to stop pampering our rich spoiled aristocrats.

Even if it wasn't the ACLU, the ACLU sucks because they don't stand for everyone equally, and they are another sock puppet of the far left kooks, the DNC.

2002-08-14 06:40:56 PM
DrLearned:

Most of us don't wish to see them fry.

Just gang raped out back of the prison laundry.

2002-08-14 06:41:04 PM
"seemed unconstitutional"? Are they out of *definitely* unconstitutional things now?

2002-08-14 06:42:07 PM

Joy!...

2002-08-14 06:42:41 PM
Geez, next they'll be demanding that corporate criminals be presumed innocent, given a fair trial, and not put in jail unless they're found guilty.

2002-08-14 06:42:59 PM
If you are a criminal, blah blah blah, what ever happened to due process? Being arrested DOES NOT make you a criminal, DUH!

2002-08-14 06:42:59 PM
thank you DrLearned!

even if the acused are guilty and thus desearve punishment this public arrest was not designed for the purpose of punishment and it was not a "normal" arrest -- next time joe blow down the street gets taken in for petty theft i very much doubt that NBC,ABC,CBS,CNN,etc will be waiting outside to take his picture -- the media circus around this arrest was constructed by the government so that the "american people" can see just how hard the're cracking down on corrupt businessmen and hopefully continue to look the other way when that corruption is so obviously intertwined with the government itself. show pony anyone?

So if they aren't responsible, who is?

Personally, I believe it was a trained team of time traveling midgets. Think about it. Osama declares jihad on the U.S., crop circles appear in Oregon. Then the Air Force drops over 225,000 cats on Belize in retaliation for inspiring the upcoming baseball strike.

Anyway, I was eating a paper cup at McDonalds as I made my way home from this week's electoshock therapy when I saw a midget walk by outside. Not one of those happy, signing midgets. NO! He was one of those evil midgets who burned down Dave's Waco compound and then stuffed O.J. into Al's white Ford Bronco, slapping the quarter panel and shout "Giddyyuppp"!!!

Then one must....uhp...Thorizine kicking in...must...type...faste................

2002-08-14 06:47:53 PM
I would prefer a Public Stoning

2002-08-14 06:47:56 PM
Brianna: why, you are welcome!!

Heywood_Jablowme_Jr: Fair enough. Just let them get to jail first by being CONVICTED, not just arrested.

2002-08-14 06:48:18 PM
Do the people who post here even farking read the links?
