TWO Malaysian dogs trained to sniff out DVDs have made their second big discovery of pirated movies, leading investigators to a hidden stash worth more than $US430,000 ($531,996), a local newspaper said today.

Unfortunately, news.com.au wasn't sure it was as much as $AU4 more, so they couldn't just say "$532,000".

You know, for how many bootleg DVDs that are supposed to be out in the market, I've yet to see one person selling them in my big busy city.

Good headline subby!

I've just downloaded Superman Returns. Didn't think much of it - Routh has a squeaky voice. And superman having had sex and now has a half-super boy is just a bit too much for me to handle. And luthor as a baddie was boring too. Also,is the idea of idiotic henchmen still that progressive in hollywood?

Anyway, thank fark cos I was gonna waste some money on the proper dvd to find out.

Will get teh original Superman SE dvds instead now.

Downlaoding '300', but I'm pretty sure I'd get the dvd when that comes out anyway.

Just like I'm gonna do with the special edition of the Sin City dvd, after downlaoding the the original theatrical version - a dvd I was not prepared to buy because I knew a special edition was coming soon. And didn't want to buy yet another version.

/I'm not really downloading pirate stuff
//it's interweb bravado. I have no computer
//Your dogs are not welcome here

Kudos smitty!

I remember when I could walk into a cinema at any time and expect to have something remotely watchable available. I'm glad to see it's not only me who thinks the industry's gone to shiat.

Given the statify of Hollywood lately, they could probably just start usin' regular bomb-sniffin' dogs in the future

I normally echo that sentimentification. However, I've heard Jeff Daniels' new movie is supposed to be great. Yee haw!

Weren't these two dogs in hiding, because they were subject to death threats just this last week?

Hmm...

Maybe this is the case: "Police in Kuala Lumpur
let a couple of dogs loose in a building and followed them and bashed cabinets and walls because THEY SMELLED PIRATED MOVIES".

Bull-shiat.

Seriously, IF SUCH A THING IS POSSIBLE, how the hell could a dog smell the difference between a pirated DVD and legally copied DVD? If it can't, the dog would constantly bark and biatch in such a city...a perfect way for the law enforcement to make their case / set somebody up.

Thankfully, I live in a country where that doesn't happen...yet.

GungFu, that's exactly why I stopped buying dvds. I still buy a few here and there.. but only on sale. Between all the FBI warnings, MPAA warnings, Macrovision taxation, etc etc etc... and the fact that i buy the special edition instead of the regular edition on the release date, only to have a director's cut come out 6 months later, and an ultimate edition 3 months after that...

I find that supporting the movie is important... but my personal sanity is far more important. I can't stand wasting money on what was the best version at the time, and having to re-buy it when they release what i thought i had already bought.

I think it's something in the coating they put on DVDs. They don't have to differentiate between pirated and "real" DVDs, just sniffing out 500 DVDs in someone's back room is probably enough for pc. Yup, the best law enforcement a powerful lobby like the MPAA can buy.

"Shave and a haircut..."

TWO BITS!!!

2007-04-01 09:22:40 AM
Is that 430K worth of DVDs in real money, making this a significant find, or is that 430K worth of DVDs in MPAA fairyland money... meaning they found, oh, 3 discs?

2007-04-01 09:51:48 AM
nicely done

I've heard that Snuke sniffing pigs are far more reliable.

I don't know, 300 and Night at the Museum could be considered blockbusters.

2007-04-01 11:09:10 AM
Submit this for the headline of the year. Bravo sir, bravo!

2007-04-01 11:12:58 AM
jook

Are you implying that the dogs don't do much more then give the police an excuse to search where they feel like anyway? Umpossible.

2007-04-01 11:25:53 AM
Heh, according to an article on Zeropaid, the pirates have already developed countermeasures to thwart the dvd-sniffing pig-dogs!

/ a little pepper in the schnozz like in the WB cartoons might work, too
