At a family Christmas party, my husband's best friend briefly fondled our young daughter. When confronted, he apologized and admitted he was drunk and it was wrong. In lieu of criminal charges, he agreed to seek therapy.

What a bunch of f*cking morons. He didn't accidentally kiss your younger sister, he molested your kid. How do you even consider talking to him, let alone inviting him into your house again? As far as I'm concerned, I'm the only one who's allowed to molest my children.

She's got a point. The issue is really not so much the molesting best friend, but rather that the father seems to have easily blown off the incident in question. I understand that they've been friends for a long time, but still, if the friend groping his daughter doesn't count as a bridge burner, then his priorities are severly farked. Doesn't even sound like the guy bothered to ask the daughter if she felt safe with this guy back in the house. From her perspective, it would appear as if her father is taking his side over her own.

When I was 17, my aunt drunkenly grabbed my ass at a christmas party. I dismissed it as an alcohol-induced mistake and have never held it against her, or even said anything about it.

That's what I was wondering. How old was the "Young Daughter"? My response would depend on the answer. I've known mothers refer to their "Young Daughters" who are 15 or 16. If that was the case, then being drunk and doing something stupid may be a partially valid excuse. Also, If you re-read the letter with the idea that the daughter is 15 or so, it's possible that it wasn't all one-sided.

Of course, if "Young Daughter" means 6 or 7..... the very hosts of heaven and hell couldn't keep me from tearing him limb from limb. The father should be shot for even considering letting him back.

From what I heard from an ex-gf, this happens all the time in the country. She told me 3 of her friends were molested by uncles growing up and in no case did the parents ever pursue charges after finding out. I once caught my aunt(50+ years old) hiding in the shower at my grandmother's while i was using the toilet two feet away. I was 15 years old at the time. This was 11 years ago and this is the first time I ever mentioned it. She has always made weird comments to me about how much I have grown up and if she was "20 years younger".
