And, lo, Jesus said, make for me a magnificent castle in the city of Rome and decorate it with the finest gold and jewels so that all may bear witness to your opulent devotion. Care not for the paupers and beggars on the streets, for your display will fill their hearts, if not their stomachs.

"An Atheist loves his fellow man instead of god. An Atheist believes that heaven is something for which we should work now--here on earth for all men together to enjoy. An Atheist believes that he can get no help through prayer but that he must find in himself the inner conviction, and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it, and enjoy it. An Atheist believes that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can he find the understanding that will help to a life of fulfillment. He seeks to know himself and his fellow man rather than to know a god. An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An Atheist believes that deed must be done instead of a prayer said. An Atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanished, war eliminated." -- Madalyn Murray O'Hair

Not only is hell real, but it's waiting for the souls of all the aborted fetuses who never accepted Jesus.

So with all this Christian bashing, I was just wondering does this apply to all religions or just ones that sport the cross?
Everytime I read one of these rants its never about Judism or Buhdism or Muslims just Jesus based. Just curious to know why?

No big deal, I believe atheism is a religion as well, to the extent that no one talks so much about the belief of God and with as much fervor as an atheist.

What he has said is nothing new. Catholics define hell as a state of eternal separation from God, not a place. And people choose that separation, not God. God striking down sinners to burn for eternity isn't official catechism anymore. Instead, people have the free will to cut themselves off. When you get to make that choice seems like one of those theological questions that I used to bug my parish priest with. I always thought that after death you get to decide for yourself.

Interesting that no other religion has a concept like this: It's a pure scare tactic ment to force you to convert.

its cake or death people. complete nonsense. Also, it's the one thing that throws the "kind, loving god" thing right out the window. Nothing worse worship would torture people eternally like that.

Because Christianity is the religion most people here have exposure to. It's cool to bash the majority... not so cool to bash a minority.

luke10_27: One girl had been brain dead for over 30 minutes, came back to life and knew things she couldn't possibly have known, such as that her mother was pregnant.

Shenanigans as to the claim "brain dead". Citation, please. I suspect you are misusing the term either out of ignorance, or bad intent. Or both.

No-one has ever recovered from "brain death". Ever. Not once. Anyone who's recovered from anything was never "brain dead".

http://www.comarecovery.org/artman/publish/BrainDeath.shtml

Not impressed on the "Mother's preggers" stunt. That one's got a 50/50 shot. BFD.

How anyone can find your claim impressive or evidence of anything is beyond me.

Wait, I take that back. It is evidence of something. It is evidence of either an inability or an unwillingness to use one's higher cognitive faculties.

And I ain't talking about the girl, here.

1. Just because you don't read the threads doesn't mean they don't happen. I kindly refer you to caste threads, religion of peace threads, and palestine threads.

2. Atheism is only a religion in the very broadest of definitions. The lack of a body of common believers, a common structure to a method of worship, and a general gathering place would tend to cast doubt on your intentions.

//sincerely.

That's not even remotely close to what I said, is it? I said she knew things she couldn't possibly have known. Things that hadn't taken place yet. Stuff that happened while she was dead. Nice attempt at a strawman, though. Better luck next time.

I sometimes have to look at both sides actions to decide who is in the right. I wonder if the Pope would say to unbelievers things like "suck my c***" and "fark you". It really makes you wonder which camp you want to be a part of. Those who need nothing more than an article to trigger all kinds of hate, or those who even after receiving said insults & threats would still act out of love and compassion for such people.

We publish shiat like this and think terrorists are crazy to think that blowing our buildings up is a sound tactic in convincing us to stay the hell out of their affairs.

Remember, it's only crazy/evil/bad/terroristic/hateful if OTHER people do it. When we do it, it's patriotic/righteous/good/loving.

(Everyone out there is free to interpret "other people" and "we" relative to whichever crowd they happen to run with.)

You can hate the Pope or hate him for saying what he said, but it states in the Bible in several places that hell exists. Now that's something I wouldn't want to take a chance on. From the posts here, nobody seems to care if they mock Christianty or not. God is real, God never changes and I would never mock Him.

To breifly summarize my own post way back, I wondered when the other religions would come out with an updated declaration on hell threats for people who don't live and think as they demand. When they come out with a pretentious "Do as I say or suffer forever" we'll give them thier just jeers. So don't worry.

I just want to say, I was on the El one day in chicago, riding home from work early or something... and these two women were talking about miracles and god and prayers that god had answered, etc.

One of them told a story about her neighbor, who aparently really needed some dish towels, so she prayed really hard to god, "god, please send me some dish towels to dry my dishes with!" all day and night. And when she opened her front door in the morning, there was a stack of brand-new dish towels sitting on the stoop!

most people who believe in these kind of "miracles" and especially those who believe in praying for every farking tiny little thing, are INSANE.

They say it is harder to get a rich man into heaven than it is a camel through the eye of a needle. If this is true, heaven is full of poor people. I wouldn't know anyone there anyways.

besides, after the first hundred years or so you'd get used to the fire.

Quantum mechanics is the most accurate physical theory ever devised. It may sound weird, but it works.

Except for that whole string theory thing. Oh, and the fact that 90 percent of the universe, as constructed by science, can't seem to be located.

Alex Chilton But if I do a bunch of bad shiat and then say I feel bad about it and promise to try not to do it anymore I'm good, right?

You don't have to promise not to do it anymore. You just have to close your eyes and mumble, "Forgive me, Jesus!" and then it's all forgotten and you're clean and innocent as a newborn kitten. You can do it again half a second later.

Hmm. I'm pretty sure the pope has no authority over the Jews or Siddhartha's whack jobs. Looks like Christianity is going it alone on this thread. If you want some Asian bashing I could let you in on a horrible thesis regarding Zen. Apparently the only moral action a Zen fanatic can take is starving himself to death. Beats out the "bomb an abortion clinic" or "crash a passenger jet into a building full of thousands of people crowds."

It says in "Jack and the Beanstalk" that there is a giant in the clouds with all the riches you could ever wish for and all you have to do is trade your cow for magic beans.

You can't believe everything you read.
