...the wife of New England Cable Newsman Tom Ellis caused a major stir at a swish Cape Cod clambake over the weekend when she grabbed five about-to-be-boiled lobsters out of a pot, threw them in her car, drove to a nearby harbor and returned them to the sea!

Arlene then hot-footed it back to the clambake and offered revelers cash for their dinners, so she could deep-six them too.

LOL!OMG!BBQ!

Oh.
My.
God.

I found the most ammusing part was that her husband was 10 feet away chowing down and acting oblivious to the whole thing. "Pass the butter Tom."

2002-08-13 09:18:36 AM
This reminds me of that Budweiser commercial where the lobster is about to be thrown in the pot and grabs the Budweiser and starts snapping at everyone...

Chef: BEER! NO!!!

Or not. Maybe this is more like Pinchy the Lobster...

Cover yourselves in butter and carry lemons just in case.

If she was such an "animal person" why did she go to a clam bake knowing people would be eating the animals she tried to save?
Does she try to "save the cows" at a steakhouse?

I bet she owns fur or leather items.

2002-08-13 09:22:13 AM
I'm not terribly into animal rights, but I don't think animals should suffer needlessly either.

Still. There's a difference between animals and bugs.
Lobsters is bugs.
Tasty-o-so-delicious bugs.
Eat em up , yum.

But the funny part was, her husband Tom was sitting at a table with about 10 people eating his lobster and pretending nothing was going on.

With a crazy chick, sometimes you can stop it, but usually you're better off just sitting back and being entertained.
That way you can post bail later too. Nothing says "I love you." like bail.

Tom Ellis = the Kent Brockman of Boston

2002-08-13 09:24:39 AM
This reminds me of the probable urban legend of singer Jimmy Sommerville (of Erasure) who bought two lobsters at a Swiss restaurant to prevent them from being eaten and put them in the nearby lake, whereupon they perished being used to sea water not fresh water.

2002-08-13 09:25:14 AM
What about the clams! Won't some please think about the clams.

Clam Liberation Front

2002-08-13 09:26:08 AM
Ellis told the Track. They were saying, `Take me back to the beach.'

Who is she farking Dr. Dolittle??? If so why did she return them to the sea when they obviously wanted to go back to the beach???

Sheeesh......

2002-08-13 09:26:43 AM
Mmm, fried clams...

But either way, won't these guys just be scooped up and eaten a month later?

2002-08-13 09:29:35 AM
Xane,

Jimmy Sommerville was in Bronski Beat, not Erasure. Get your gay pop duos straight (ba-dump-bump).

2002-08-13 09:30:11 AM
"I'm an animal person and anyone who saw those poor creatures would have done the same thing."

I wouldn't save the lobster, but I'd definitely lick the clam.

I agree that there are more 'humane' ways to prepare lobster for eating.

For instance, I read one juicy crustacean a passage from Ann Coulter's book the other day, and it decided to throw itself in a pot of boiling water to escape the horror of what I was saying...

Mmmmmmm. Ann Coulter-induced suicidal lobster.

Stories and headlines like this are the reason for Farking.

Beautiful. Just... beautiful.

2002-08-13 09:34:34 AM
She grabs the lobsters and returns them to the ocean...where I would bet, 5 minutes later, some lobsterman comes and pulls his traps to find an abnormally large catch.

This is a funny story. Sounds like a Menopausal woman having some sort of mid-life crisis.

``She was yelling, `I'm saving the lobsters, I'm saving the lobsters,' '' said Someone Who Was There. ``But the funny part was, her husband Tom was sitting at a table with about 10 people eating his lobster and pretending nothing was going on. It was the most bizarre scenario ever.''

Hehehehe.

"She was yelling, `I'm saving the lobsters, I'm saving the lobsters,' said Someone Who Was There."

That's some name for a person. I wonder if they know Chief Running Water, and Two Dogs F.ucking (old joke).

2002-08-13 09:35:06 AM
I wonder if she removed the rubberbands from their claws? Reading this story makes me hungry for lobster.

Last year, we had word that Fred Schneider (the flamer from the B52's) was going to be trying to rally support against the big lobster festival here in Maine.

Support. Against lobster. In Maine.

Farking tourists have -no- clue. Our green water bugs are the tastiest red water bugs once they've been tossed into boiling water.

And I don't care if it IS steam escaping, it sounds cooler to think they scream.

2002-08-13 09:38:23 AM
And I always thought "saving the lobsters" was a euphemism for donating to a sperm bank.

2002-08-13 09:38:50 AM
Too funny about her husband. He just kept chomping away.

2002-08-13 09:38:59 AM
Grrrrrrrrr...no, I can't resist...

"LOBSTER STICKS TO MAGNET!"

Lobsters? Your sperm resembles lobster? Holy crap. That's gotta -hurt- someone. Do you even have a hand left?

2002-08-13 09:41:42 AM
Lobsters are an endangered species? Huh?

2002-08-13 09:43:15 AM
If we weren't meant to eat lobsters, why are they made out of lobster?

2002-08-13 09:43:44 AM
Clams have feelings too. (actually they don't).

I love how the author used an exclamation point! When it really doesn't fit!

This story is all over the radio here in Boston, turns out this woman is a real loon.

heehee... I just can't loose the mental picture of this wild eyed woman running down the beach lobsters in hand....

Grivas!!! You put a picture of my second Cartoon husband. :)

But seriously you guys, you have NO idea how many crazies we get up here in Maine talking about the cruelty of eating lobsters. This doesn't surprise me in the bit. :)

Though it does make me laugh a great deal. :)

2002-08-13 10:02:50 AM
LOBSTER MAGNET!!!!!!!

2002-08-13 10:06:16 AM
SAve the animals! But plants are evil! Kill the plants! Yes, you too can kill some organisms without any guilt, but please don't kill others. Another vague, vapid message from PETA.

2002-08-13 10:06:32 AM
I wouldn't ever do anything about it, but it does always make me kinda sad to see the lobsters and crabs in the death tank at restaurants. i mena, i don't have to look at the chickens that might make up my meal...

Lobsters of the world unite! Boil the humans!

2002-08-13 10:12:44 AM
I love lobster, but I get kinda sad when I walk by the live lobster tank in the grocery store. I don't want to see them alive before I eat them.

2002-08-13 10:15:51 AM
her behavior was a bit different, perhaps a trifle naive and irrational, but it came from a good place. yay!

2002-08-13 10:16:51 AM
When I went to school in Boston, it was not uncommon to have a galvanized trashcan of water boiling at the beach filled with more lobsters than I have ever seen. If it is any consolation to the lobsters, I really enjoyed them, and finished every one I cracked into.

grivas waves to the road head girl.

In my town we once had a shop called The WARM Store. WARM was an acronym for "Woodstock Animal Rights Movement".

Many believed it stood for "We're Absolutely Right, Man".

If anyone has a question as to the general mental state of PETA members (those fascist bullies who believe if we don't eat THEIR way that we are WRONG) they should re-read this article.

WANKERS!

2002-08-13 10:21:52 AM
This reminds me to be thankful for breaking up with that insane chick I was dating. We were headed toward marriage, and she was just as loony as this chick about animals.

I could have been that Tom.

2002-08-13 10:22:34 AM
lunatic tassle- glad someone get sthat nebulous sad feeling for the little buggers. Last time I was at red lobster, i was gettin a little sad looking at the tank across the room, and then some very very large woman stood in front of it and i couldn't see the tank anymore and felt better.

2002-08-13 10:28:16 AM
Boiling and eating lobsters is mean.

Too bad I'm nasty, cranky, mean and hungry. Anyways, my wife wants to head up to New England this fall. Any recommendations for a B&B?

2002-08-13 10:28:21 AM
So, to recap...

It's bad to eat Lobsters since they are natures little cute animal?

Pigs are evil critters and you must punish them by eating as many as you can...
