If Congress wants to know how on earth this happened, maybe they should, I don't know, actually read legislation before passing it. That must have been a real awakening to go back and read the Patriot Act renewal and see that little gem. I wonder what other wonderful surprises are lurking in there that escaped the watchful eyes of Congress.

That is what some of the yokels in my wife's office said as they held their noses and voted for Bush's reelection. I could understand if they liked Bush or thought he was doing a good job, but they didn't. They just thought you never, question a President in a time of war and that it is anti-American to do so.

This just showed they had no common sense. If you think the guy is doing a bad job - fire him!

Probably tons o' crap in the USA PATRIOT Act. But that's a different kettle of fish than ejecting proesecutors who are getting too close to your croney's evildoings. Last week's emails tell a very sordid tale.

Like how many of us read the small print in those credit card agreements? Of course, Congress is paid to read the small print, so it really is their own fault. I, too, wonder how much shiat has been snuck through in the past because our lazy reps didn't want to take the time to read what they were voting on.

remember when the patriot act was passed and renewed? there was quite a chorus of us saying that it was far too broad and gave people too much power. power that they would likely abuse in time. we were called fools and traitors for our distrust in those sworn to protect us. we were told to "leave if we didn't like it" because we dared to question. not trying to say "we told you so", but we did.

2007-03-21 12:03:47 PM
Unfortunately, the President has the constitution on his side on this matter. The president doesn't need the authority of Congress to fire anyone. Thus the whole mess with Andrew Johnson.

Why would forcing Rove to testify change anything? It's not like he's going to magically start telling the truth once he's on the stand.

No, but it shows Congress is willing to flex their muscles. Finally.

In Washington, "your" truth is the "true" truth and all other "truths" are "false". And George W. Bush WANTS TO BELIEVE!

This is almost stupid. Oh no, a subpoena?!!?!? That'll really get him. He's probably quaking in his boots as we speak, what with him knowing that he'll get zero punishment for anything he's done. He's a high ranking government official backed by the president. That equals a slap on the wrist, if that. The only way he'd get any penalty for this at all is if Plame had been killed the week he outed her.

/not "outed" as in gay
//not that theres anything wrong with that

I thought the issue here was potential obstruction of justice by kicking out USAs who were potentially investigating Republicans.

That's Nikita Kruschev on the cover.
