I don't see how that's a reference to anything - article, headline, or primary comment...

However, I do have a reference for the Taco Bell from the headline: Snopes(pops)

*shrug* trying to help, not complaining

that thread is the Fnorgby thread where he made the claim about using a $2 bill at Taco Bell

Where do they carry them?

Ah, while we are fondly looking back at some classic threads, does anyone remember the thread where the guy claimed there were two entrances to the vagina? That one had me in tears.

I actually had a fnorgby sighting not all that long ago... he just posted a random comment somewhere. I was shocked.

I like this comment:

Jay_Santos: Man, if I were fnorgby I would get away from Fark for about a couple of years so things cool up.

Then I'd come back with a different name, something like not_fnorgby, so people wouldn't recognize me.

Looks like "a couple of years" didn't cut it.

And there is a not_fnorgby, but I'm pretty sure it's not the same person.

/fnorgby has a TF membership, I wonder if he lurks or something

Nude tourists are ready to dig deep into their pockets to shed more light on how important they are to the Florida economy.

"Man, this money smells sorta wierd Boss!"

Just where are those pockets if they're nude?

Pardon my ignorance here...(Canadian - we use twoonies), but are these $2 bills that rarely used? If they are still attainable through banks why are they not used more often down there? Obviously Americans still utilise the $1 bill...so what gives?

Enlighten please.

Nobody though to co-invent cash drawers with an extra slot in them, and there's no obvious place for cashiers to put them. Plus we hate new and unfamiliar things.

I think that is Out-farking-standing! What a creative way to let people know how much money you are spending.

Go nudists, even though there aren't ever hotties on a nude beach.

It's simple. Americans can't count by 2s.

They have a bit of a silly stigma attached to them as being "unlucky".

Personally, I think they are best used for strip clubs.

Didn't read the article, but my late brother tried to use a $2 bill at Taco Bell years ago. The kid was maybe 16, and had never seen one before. He thought he had caught a counterfeiter and went back to get the manager. The manager came out, looked at the bill and practically smacked the kid in the back of the head and called him retarded. The kid just couldn't believe that there was a real $2 bill out there.

I try to distance myself from naked guys with $3 bills. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just a personal choice of mine.

5 bill slots in a cash drawer. 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 20s. 50+ bills go under the drawer. That's how it's done. Does that make me smart enough to be elected President down there yet, or do I need to invent some new words first?

One time about five years ago I paid with a $2 bill at Taco Bell, the kid looked at me in shock and called his manager.

That's when I looked up and saw the television. A plane had just collided with the World Trade Center.

So, if anyone else uses a two dollar bill to pay for services in that locale, they'd be considered nudists now?

palad: 5 bill slots in a cash drawer. 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 20s. 50+ bills go under the drawer. That's how it's done.

In my retail days we used that fifth slot to put rolled coins in. (I would also fold up any $2s I got and stick them in there under the rolls, but then again I never worked at Taco Bell and had my eye on a promotion one day)

Does that make me smart enough to be elected President down there yet,

Being able to finish "My Pet Goat" in under seven minutes makes you a frontrunner in my book.

American public schools are so bad that the mathematical skill required for the average cashier to process the additional computational burden of $2 bills is just too great, so society humors their deficiency by largely ignoring the existence of such currency. It's hard enough for the average cashier to deal with $1s, $5s, $10s, and $20s; should see them furrow their brows when a $50 or $100 enters the picture (it's almost like you can see the hamster work to exhaustion in their minds). If metal change is also involved (also known as "coins"), forget about it...

Since we phased out 1- and 2-dollar bills up here, we have that many more slots open in the cash registers. Usually one bill slot is used for toonies and the other is used for rolled coins.

About a year ago at our local Taco Bell the cashier gave me a $5 Silver Certificate as part of my change. As he began to hand it to me he said "You don't have to take this if you don't want it, I can give you another bill."
I told him I'd take it.
He said "Well it looks kind of funny to me, I'm not sure it's real."
I told him it was fine.

I have 2 two-dollar bills right now. I plan to use one or both as a tip next time I go out to a restaurant.

It always makes me happy to receive weird money as change. Doesn't happen often, but a year or so ago I got two half dollars as change, and then a couple weeks ago I got the two-dollar bills.

2007-03-18 02:14:23 AM
Smage, I've seen some fast food places use only dimes and pennies when giving change. Now they use an automated change dispenser to make it even easier.

Also, fifth slot is for extra change rolls, checks (checks are the devil's work btw) $2, $50, and $100, basically the misc slot.

It's not that. The Treasury is still printing the bills, but they never caught on in wide circulation. As a result, banks demand them less, and people don't use them, so the Treasury doesn't up the production.

It's been a downhill cycle since it's inception. Until people start noticing that collections of four one dollar bills adds unnecessary heft to their wallet, it probably won't change.

There's also the weird psychological aspect to it: if you put four one dollar bills next to two two-dollar bills in front of someone and ask them to take what they want, odds are they will go for the ones. The actual value of the two dollar bill isn't high enough to override the perceived quantitative value of more dollars.

Korzine: Now they use an automated change dispenser to make it even easier.

Eh? I live down here in forced-urbanized Southern Cali and only seen 'em in Stater Bros (grocery store). It sounds like a great idea to have them in fast food places, though. Theres no guarantee that the burger monkeys were ever trained to wash their hands in between handling money and handling food.

They're actually supposed to be used for the $2 bill. Practice has made them the coin roll slot.

Wendy's has used them for as long as I can remember, it's one of the things that made me want to go there when I was a kid.

Really? I'd almost always go for the twos in a second. That may because of their novelty though. If they became more common, ironically I think I'd be more inclined to go with the ones. ;-)

(At the same time, ones would be a little more useful. How many soda machines take $2 bills for instance?)

Unfortunately, they still have to accept the money and put it in the register, and since it only dispenses coins they still have to give you back any paper money you need.

Thing is, cliche or not, I can still see this happening. Just because something became an urban legend doesn't mean it becomes impossible.

Brilliant, once those bills increase in local circulation, it will seem like the economy is getting A LOT more money from nudists than it actually is. Much like the same dollar bill gets spent over and over and over...

Exactly. They don't because the demand isn't there. The demand isn't there because they still, after 80+ years of circulation, aren't common.

SpongeBlob_HairPants: Oh...they're not "new" at all.

Well, no, they really aren't. They aren't even under represented in the currency market - people just keep them in their homes because of the perception that they aren't used.

It's a continuing example of providing a product no one actually uses. Only a government can get away with such a thing, but in this case I encourage them. When vending machines make it to the two dollar mark, those bills will be needed.

The biggest problem with the 2 dollar bill is that we haven't broken the "dollar" mark in our heads. We don't set up "two dollar" stores to indicate a bargain. But we will eventually.

2007-03-18 03:48:44 AM
Yeah, $2 bills just never caught on. I think they actually were discontinued at one point, but that was only barely after they were introduced when people actually cared, and there was an uproar and they got reinstated. Since then they've just sorta sat at the same low level of usage, except now people would be glad if they were discontinued because it would make their collector value go up. I've got two $2 bills sitting in my coin collection, they're both really old, but in pretty crummy condition. I should go get some new crispy ones and try to screw with people by spending the old ones. Wish me luck!

Shadow Blasko They have a bit of a silly smegma attached to them as being "unlucky".
