(MSNBC)   Floods and droughts predicted this sping. If only there was some way to save water when you have more than you need, some kind of reservoir of water   ( divider line

Wow, Subby will make beeelions with that idea.

Dam that reservoir!

Reservoirs ?

Brilliant !!
2007-03-16 05:16:51 PM
Maybe some dogs for that reservoir. Yeah.

Sping and a miss, submitter.
2007-03-16 05:19:07 PM
Let me get this straight. Rivers have a tendency to flood in spring due to snow melt and the desert tends to be dry. Genius!
2007-03-16 05:19:26 PM
You must consider the environmental impact of building a reservoir.

Oh, and also the property rights of everyone that gets flooded.

When exactly is Florida's dry season? I've never heard of it.
2007-03-16 05:23:31 PM
New Orleans would be a perfect water reserve...Just need to somehow get those of those pesky peoples..Some kind of non-government caused weather event..

/The only downside is all the bodys with bullet holes in them from a typical night out..
2007-03-16 05:23:33 PM
We could just use your mom, she retains a lot of water.
2007-03-16 05:24:32 PM
Can "sping" be like "vodak"?

2007-03-16 05:25:47 PM
Dry season in L.A. is January - December. This year we didn't even get our two weeks of drizzle in February.
2007-03-16 05:26:06 PM
Why we don't build a couple thousand mile pipeline across the US to shift water to where it's needed is beyond me. Better system of reservoirs... The whole system could be paid for by preventing some of the massive wildfires we always seem to have happen out west.. sprinklers glore!
2007-03-16 05:26:27 PM
sping sping sping!

A reservoir of sping!

Spanging good idea!!

In other news, snow predicted for next winter.

Only if you're spinging for the vodak today. I'm broek.
2007-03-16 05:29:22 PM
What a plan! Predict floods and droughts in places theat get floods and droughts all the damn time. You're bound to be right *somewhere*...
2007-03-16 05:29:30 PM
Or, if only there was some way to stop people from living where there not enough water. Hmmmmm... Oh yeah it's called a drought. Hey, let's build a city in a desert, and our water supply comes from mountain snow pack melt. Hey, the glacier on the mountain is disappearing. The snow isn't falling as much as it used to. Good thing we thought this through. I guess we're screwed. Yep. you are. Better start figuring out how to desalinate cheaply. Perhaps an array of mirrors to heat the water with sunlight. I don't know. I DO know that water here in Central Texas is going away. Too many people, not enough rain. Nature on Earth is a closed system with a hell of a negative feedback loop, as we are getting ready to observe.
2007-03-16 05:32:40 PM
Stupid LA people. Give us back our damn water!

In San Bernadino there is a fountain in the middle of a freeway interchange. Is that nececary? They act like there is a neverending supply.

You bastards drained the Owens valley and Mono lake just so you could have a lawn in the desert.
2007-03-16 05:34:25 PM
I seem to recall that depending on where you are in Florida it's generally very wet in the spring, the mid to late summer is dry, and the fall is hurricaney.
2007-03-16 05:34:30 PM

Er, relax.

Also, the "negative" in negative feedback loops implies stabilization, not "bad". Positive feedback loops spiral out of control. I suppose some control theory expert will be here to tell me all the subtleties I missed, but that's the idea.

Rapmaster2000: When exactly is Florida's dry season? I've never heard of it.

Winter actually..or at least relatively speaking. That's why people like to go there. It's warmish and pleasant in winter. Hot, muggy, and wet in summer.
2007-03-16 05:35:19 PM
1. Snow is melting
2. Dry in the desert

NOAA blames Global Weather

2007-03-16 05:39:49 PM
At least us desert rats don't have to worry about too much water.

A reservoir won't help against regular flooding, you need dikes
2007-03-16 05:41:15 PM
When fowers blom in the sping, tra-la!
2007-03-16 05:42:17 PM
YAY! more desert = more dust in the air. more dust in the air = less global warming!

we're saved by drout!
2007-03-16 05:46:43 PM
Is the first day of sping in Smarch?

Governments should stop subsidizing water. People have an idiotic sense of entitlement to free water. If you make water expensive, consumers will respond to the price signal and consume less, thereby minimizing the negative effects of drought.

/pigouvian taxes are the way to go
/won't really matter once Coca-Cola buys up all the world's water rights
2007-03-16 05:53:06 PM
Sounds simple Brain.

But where we going to find 4 million packs of bubble gum?

At this time of hour?

(sorry, had to jamn an airplane reference in there)
2007-03-16 05:53:56 PM
As a transplanted Floridian, I can tell you the dry season is usually right after hurricane season until around Easter (late March/early April). From May until October you can set your clocks by the 3 p.m. thunderstorms. Summers are far from dry in the Sunshine State.
2007-03-16 06:25:50 PM
That's more like a Shelbyville kind of idea
2007-03-16 06:27:16 PM
Maybe a Large Canteen!

How about New Orleans? Betcha that can hold a lot of water 'till you need it.

/ Window seat?

That's so crazy it might just work!

Let's Do It

(Cole Porter)

When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
Starts to sing Sping
When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring Ding dong Ding dong
When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune to the moon up above
It is nature that is all
Simply telling us to fall in love

And that's why birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

I've heard that lizards and frogs do it
Layin' on a rock
They say that roosters do it
With a doodle and cock

Some Argentines, without means do it
I hear even Boston beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
starts to sing Sping sping sping
When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring Ding ding ding
When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune

The most refined lady bugs do it
When a gentleman calls
Moths in your rugs they do it
What's the use of moth balls

The chimpanzees in the zoos do it,
Some courageous kangaroos do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

I'm sure sometimes on the sly you do it
Maybe even you and I might do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
2007-03-16 06:53:42 PM
The dry season is caused by Manbearpig. And that's science you can't argue with science.
