WarpZone,

I guess, I would just think that smart people could see when they are being hoodwinked. People here seem smart enough, they certainly have plenty of information to back up all this venom about the other side. Aparently they are all just marks. Independent thought is dead in america, we get force fed crap from all sides, aparently they fall for it choose a side and never question what the real truth is.

they are attacking us because we are occupying their territories throughout the middle east, and because of our policies towards the middle east in general

OBL wanted US out of the land of mecca and median. we left. he didn't thank us.

yes, they want us to stop being allied with israel. but that ain't happening. so they should try to get over it.

and the caliphate ain't coming back. they should get over that, too.

nor will andalusia return. again, get over it.

and the US, like it always has, will defend its interests abroad. they. need. to. get. over. it.

see a pattern here?

Man you used to pick on me too. Damn, I guess I'm on an ignore list now or something. Even after I gave you kudos in my profile along with some extreme bear lover. And not the forest kind of bears mind you.

So what does Turrurist mean in the case of Iraq? Because I've seen a bunch of douchebag civilians get that title for killing their neighbors.

its positive in the same way one end of a magnet is positive. in this case the other end of the magnet would be the increase in violence in northern iraq

YUP! But still... Baghdad is by far the worst city in terms of violence, its down this far... that's good news.

Hopefully it keeps up... considering the numbers ROSE for god knows how long.

WizardX: No, really, the_gospel_of_thomas. How do we win a military war against terrorists?

By not leaving them alone, and allowing them to flourish, plan and execute attack on US soil?

.... So, the opposite of that, is to go after them, kill them, disrupt their operations, their financing and make them "react" to our "action" of going after them. i.e. what we are doing.

Understand?

Meanwhile, our country is becoming less safe. Look at Katrina. All our troops were in Iraq when we needed them.

I am ex-USAF (1990-1994). I wouldn't join the military now, I am not suicidal.

I have 3 cousins who have enlisted in the marines in the last 6 months. Are they suicidal? One isn't even going to Iraq.

Are you really arguing that Katrina should have been handled by the military illegally?

Pretty soon the death rate will be back down to women being stoned for reading.

I think the pattern you're looking for is "My way or the highway." Is that what imperialism looks like?

Personally, I don't know. I missed out on the Manifest Destiny days of the country.

it has made me angry because people are forming opinions from a slanted media that like reporting bad news.

Tell me, when the "slanted media" gave nearly 100% support for starting this war, despite the fact that claims made by this administration were dubious at best (even purportedly "leftist" orgs like the NY Times), did that make you angry as well? Does it bother you that every justification for this war has fallen apart? Or is that a good kind of slant?

albo - you really think al-qaeda wants to negotiate with us and will leave us alone? listen to OBL and zawahiri--they want the caliphate and they hate us as infideals. they can't even get along with their co-religionists, the shia.

Oh, for fark's sake... Osama's a businessman. He was pissed because certain Saudis were feeling mighty comfortable in defaulting on debts owed to Bin Laden Construction... because they were all cozied up to us and because we had troops stationed there.

He wants his debts paid and he wants the same thing Bush wants... control of the farking oil.

So, he told us to get the fark out of Saudi. (which the Bush administration very quietly did) and told the natives not to burn the oil fields... (just as Bush did)

If you actually read his screeds, he doesn't even hide this shiat... He pisses and moans about 'great merchants whose work has gone unpaid' and a bunch of other bullshiat.

Sure, he throws in a little religious babble to make the unquestioning dipshiats dance a little faster for him... "No, you're not fighting for my money and power!! You're fighting for Allah and the sanctity of the Holy Land!!!" Guess who else does that...

maniacbastard, dude - im trying to work here at the office AND fark. It took me a long time just to find a recent document of saddam's mass gaves that went up to 2003 ... I can't answer every question here.

More good things than bad things have been happening in Iraq ever since our invasion in 2003. They just haven't been reported by the liberal media. And terrorists are truly in the last throes, and we have turned the last corner . . or at least the penultimate corner by now.

That's why our troops will not be able to leave until well after 2008, and that's why we need a troop surge now. Because good things are outweighing bad things in Iraq. You just don't hear about them.

The "results" of this war wont be known for 20 years at a minimum:

On one end of the spectrum the 3500 KIA could seem like a worthwhile price if Iraq becomes a modern islamic state and the Sunni/Shia learn that its much easier to deal with each other politically than kill each other. The net result being that other countries follow suit, while the extremists lose traction with the average citizen.

On the other end the whole country could slide into civil war, dragging Iran, Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia and eventually the entire middle east into WWIII - 3,500 will be the smallest drop in the bucket.

Like it or not, the war in Iraq could still end up being one of the most significant world events ever. And if you think its even a coin flip then theres a 50% chance that Bush becomes one of the most important people to ever live.

That was in so many ways NOT a definition of winning that I really don't know where to start.

Except just to point at you and laugh.

ALL YOU SAID was, in essence, "We have to fight because fighting is better than not-fighting."

And you seem to think that this, in itself, a explanation of how to win?!?

You'd be an impressive football coach, you know that?

Kid: "Hey coach, how do we win this game?"

Coach TGOT: "Well son, I'll tell you what. You don't win a game by not playing! So go play!"

Kid: "But they're bigger than us and stronger. How do we defeat them?"

Coach TGOT: "What kind of attitude is that? Just get out there and win!"

Kid: "But HOOOWWWWW?"

Coach TGOT: "I've already told you."

Threads like this are great tools for weeding out those who mean it when they say they support the troops and this country.

What do you mean by that, TheConvincingSavant? Are you saying people cannot support the troops if they don't agree with the policy the leadership of this country puts forth no matter the dissent?

eternal defending yourself. nobody wanted to live 45+ years under the threat of nuclear holocaust, either, but we fought the cold war because we had to until the russians crapped out. the war on terror is a global conflict that will go on for a long time.

Bhopper: Does it bother you that every justification for this war has fallen apart?

The removal of Sadaam from power and the death of his unholy spawn was always reason enough for me. And yeah, while we were there it made sense to look for WMD's.

I did NOT sign up to be an occupying force. I did not know that the State Department was going to be kept out of the loop or that their volumes and volumes of post-war plans would go ignored. I did not realize that Donald Rumsfeld would be allowed to just make it up as he went along.

We have an "eternal war" against crime in the US.

We can't bring crime, Robery, Murder, Rape, Extortion and the rest - down to zero, so should we declare victory against all crime, and remove the occupation of America by all US Police forces?

It's the overall death rate. And it's an estimate. Likely made before Zarqawi blew up the Golden Minaret and everything went to hell. Or it might be that there were fewer deaths from non-violent means (disease, sickness, starvation, etc.) to make up for the increase in violent deaths. For the years prior it showed a definite improvement overall. Probably have a more accurate rate in May or June of this year on 2006's death rate.

WizzardX,

They are all liars and spinsters. The truth you see on TV or web is never the real truth. its always slanted one way or the other. You have to be smart enough to disreguard large portions of the entertainment news media. Sure there are half truths but most here only seem interested in the past and the spin. Exactly what they want.

I'd rather have my government working, not prosecuting. It a cycle that we saw 8 years ago. We pay em we cant keep falling for this crap. They are all corrupt so what we know that. are we just going to let them sit around and do nothing because they trained us all to think that prosecutions are somehow helpful. Is that work? Is it making us safer, ritcher.

It happend to clinton, and now bush. Still everyone thinks this somehow helps. Its a big ruse they through out to mask the fact that they are really useless and doing nothing.

The war, the economy, the same process is at work.

I do see a pattern. Basically you're saying "we're going to do whatever we want, wherever we want, whenever we want and other people should just shut up and deal with it."

the fact is that US and UN policies have caused a great deal of pain and misery in the middle east. I'm not suggesting we need to capitulate to the terrorists, but I think we need to examine the ultimate morality of our policies as they relate to innocent people, regardless of how they affect US interests.

Well, if you keep killing 5 point whatever guys out of that thousand, that's just going to keep thinning the thousand out. And I would imaging as their numbers dwindle, the rest of the thousand are going to start be a little weary about going out without flak jackets and such. Probably be harder targets as time goes on.
