So they're waiting you out. Nifty. A little obvious, playing right out of Guerrilla Tactics for Dummies, but..

2007-03-14 03:25:53 PM
Correction:

The violence went down in Baghdad and up in the surrounding areas.

/we sprayed for roaches in the kitchen but they just moved into rest of house

5000_gallons_of_toothpaste - Since when did we trust anything Iraq said?

FTW!

Damn! I thought I had a sure green light when I submitted the Yahoo article on this (with a better headline, natch ;-) ) news 10 minutes ago.

Wow, that IS great news! If we can just keep 80,00 troops stationed in every city in the Middle East until the end of time, the middle east will only be ten times a violent as New York.

I'm proud my great-grand-childrens' tax dollars will be paying for this.

Ah, the old "try to get a greenlight by asking not to get a greenlight" trick.

Good luck with that.

it worked

flavor of the month - its positive in the same way one end of a magnet is positive. in this case the other end of the magnet would be the increase in violence in northern iraq.

i hope that metaphor wasnt too tortured. its been a very long day.

It was acceptable... Personally, I would have preferred a Whac-a-Mole theme, but considering the strain you're apparently under, and the speed with which you managed to get that out there, the magnet route is perfectly acceptable

Good to see our government is enforcing the law somewhere.

wow, i guess they reported this so they could claim they are being fair. now comes 11 months of negative news, and while there is always negative news, if that's all you report you're showing bias, like when all your reporting "errors" show the USA in a negative light, like the associated press.

I warned my fellow liberals not to oppose the

too soon. While this doesn't necessarily mean anything in the long run, your haste may get you in trouble.

Despite all naysayers, we are winning the war. Combat deaths happen. We have lost 3k soldiers but they have lost how many terrorist types? A bunch, mmmkay?

War isn't a numbers game u idiot u cant track it on a farking graph.

Subtle.

Never has there been a more appropriate use of the "Ironic" tag. Only 102 roadside bombs in a month and that's good news? Oh yeah, that's some irony for ya.

2007-03-14 03:29:37 PM
Well, it's a small reduction in violence. I think it would be higher if there were no Americans there at all.

2007-03-14 03:29:53 PM
all this article proves is that the only way the U.S. can maintain the pretense of order in Baghdad is to lock the city down.

never mind the very nature of the enemy they fight is to react and adapt. how sustainable is Operation Judge Dredd?

2007-03-14 03:30:06 PM
Congrats to all the republicans on what's basically the first bit of good news to come out of the entire war. In the unlikely event that this is the beginning of real, continuing progress, and not just a flash in the pan, I may change my opinion somewhat (from "complete disaster" to "something that we shouldn't have done that sort of worked out okay in the end as long as you don't count the horrendous loss of life on both sides"). Anyway, given the proposed timetable for withdrawing the troops, we'll have more than enough time to see whether continuing progress will be made. Best of luck. I'd love to be wrong on this if it means less people will die.

2007-03-14 03:30:11 PM
Teucer: Despite all naysayers, we are winning the war.

We can't even control one city.

2007-03-14 03:31:07 PM
i hope that metaphor wasnt too tortured. its been a very long day.

My mom was once complaining that "the media never shows the good things happening in Iraq".

I said "Suppose a bank was robbed and 4 people were killed, would you complain that the news didn't tell you about the 12 people that weren't killed and still got their free toaster?"

Now she gets it.

2007-03-14 03:31:14 PM
the_gospel_of_thomas: Oh, and .... for the rest of you .... sorry, maybe there will be bad news sometime later that you all can celebrate.

Why are you such a farking tool? Seriously.

2007-03-14 03:31:14 PM
So what's the good news? Their trains are running on time now?

2007-03-14 03:31:39 PM
Alphax: Well, it's a small reduction in violence. I think it would be higher if there were no Americans there at all.

The "Reduction in Violence" would be higher id we leave .... what do you base that on?

Are you saying that they murder rate in Iraq will drop if US forces leave?

You do know, that the terrorists are killing Iraqi Civilians, right?

So - why do you think that if we leave, that they'll stop?

I thought in no way this would be greenlighted. (sp?)

/first one

May not be the best news, but less deaths is better than more and none would in fact be the best news, that and leaving.

2007-03-14 03:32:27 PM
If you are hoping for the best in Iraq, TalkingBaseball, then my comment was not directed at you, now was it?

Okay, I'm sure somebody got some kickass porn or some pretty righteous brownies in their care package or something.... WOOHOOO for the good news!!!

Seriously, where is all this super great news about how awesome things are going that you seem to think the MSM is ignoring to paint a falsely grim picture?

2007-03-14 03:32:49 PM
mmontour

What a silly graph. Of course deaths in war are going to go up. It's not like people are coming back from the dead.

// Hate the war, but the graph is equivalent to saying "People are dying in Iraq"
/// We noticed.

Operation Enforcing the Law? Lets roll. . .

/cue "Cops" theme song

We have lost 3k soldiers

Teucer, that's 3000 people who are no longer with us. They should still be here on this Earth, but we had to get those WMDs.

2007-03-14 03:33:39 PM
Is the stinking 'drive-by' media trying to hurt the troops again. Is there no low that these liberal reporter bastards won't go to?

2007-03-14 03:33:44 PM
"in this case the other end of the magnet would be the increase in violence in northern iraq"

Ugh. That true?

While I'd like some good news out of Iraq, isn't that what happened the last time we were told "violence is down" in Provinces A, B, and C? It turned out violence was up in Provinces D, E, F, and G.

2007-03-14 03:34:17 PM

Hopefully this is good news.

Atta also reported that 94 terrorists were killed in the February-March period, compared with 19 in the January-February time frame.

Atta also reported that 94 terrorists were killed in the February-March period, compared with 19 in the January-February time frame.

Just hope they aren't moving the civilians dead to the terrorists dead column to beef up the numbers.

Quick Fixer: What a silly graph. Of course deaths in war are going to go up. It's not like people are coming back from the dead.

Correct.

That graph was made to look like something of a stock's price, or someone's 401k or mutual fund that goes up because of compound interest.

it's completely BS, and made to visually inflate the numbers.

2007-03-14 03:34:53 PM
The Iraq war should be over anytime now.

2007-03-14 03:35:11 PM
I'm still amazed that anyone can claim we're "winning" in Iraq when I still haven't seen a coherent, achievable statement of what, EXACTLY, would constitute "winning."

2007-03-14 03:35:19 PM
I wouldn’t want 73 Virgins... If I just blew myself up, I would want 73 whores that are skilled at their craft. 73 virgins would be 73 lifeless, shivering, possibly crying, bodies lying on their backs. Not to mention the ensuing dry cleaning bill, getting 73 hymns out of 400 thread-count sheets would be ridiculous.

mid-February launch of Operation Enforcing the Law,

Actually in mid-February Operation Imposing Law was launched... and unofficially renamed shortly thereafter when it was pointed out that it's acronym was the same as Operation Iraqi Liberation.

oldebayer: You do realize that Baghdad is a city of 5 million a few violent deaths are going to happen every day no matter what in a city of that size. But your talking a dozen a month at most for most big cities. So Baghdad still has a long way to go.

2007-03-14 03:35:58 PM
Just hope they aren't moving the civilians dead to the terrorists dead column to beef up the numbers.

What, considering it's only our military's say-so on whether they're terrorists at all?

NOOOOOOOOOO, ya THINK?

2007-03-14 03:36:31 PM
Now if we can just get Afghanistan turned back around life will be good. Nice to see some positive comments for a change...we can still win this for these people....they're dying for a better life for their children too. UPI has been reporting the "real" news for quite awhile.

2007-03-14 03:36:42 PM
As a liberal, I find this news very disappointing!
