"according to investigators in San Francisco".

That's where I stopped reading.

So, y'all with the "support our troops" stickers on your cars ...Want to make sure a good amount of that money goes towards helping out those soldiers that come back mentally and physically wounded?

borg: That's where I stopped reading.

i was unaware that there are cities that are untrustworthy.

Untrustworthy?

"San Francisco" gave him wood.

This is such sad news, I must say.

2007-03-13 04:24:46 AM
My brother came back from Iraq completely insane. Of course, he also went over to Iraq completely insane. He's now been deemed incapable of taking care of himself and the government will take care of him the rest of his life.

Seeing people get blown up kinda has the tendency to fark with you

Napoleon's military doctor, I forget his name, was the first to recognize PTSD. His solution was to give a guy a few days of rest in a safe environment. And some hot food, safe water to drink, a hot bath, and recognizable icons from their motherland. After that, most men were ready to return to duty.

heap: i was unaware that there are cities that are untrustworthy.

Vegas. Don't turn your back on it, not for one second.

2007-03-13 05:01:50 AM
I have my suspicions about Provo, personally. Little city... always looked a bit too clean, if you know what I mean.

2007-03-13 05:09:12 AM
Nobody cared to think about the possible motive/slant of the folks putting on this research right?

I mean, folks from San Francisco seem to be pretty even-headed when it comes to rationaly discussing the war in Iraq.

Ya, excuse me but are san fran people the best for evaluating others, last i checked they are crazy as hell

2007-03-13 05:13:25 AM
Way this is going, they will bring home only 1/4. Luckily the stable one.

Dr. Karen H. Seal at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and associates report in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Yeah, that biased VA and their crazy views....

2007-03-13 05:21:39 AM
Archives of Internal Medicine?

Would I go looking for a cure for my foot problem in the Archive of Dermatology?

Mainly I was looking for a good reason to post those pictures and incite people to anger.

/footnote - I made friends with a whole company of good guys that went through Iraq. My brother was one of them. They seem to be adjusting well to "Real life" after that year in hell. It sure helps to have a support system like they have!

Did you know, that the vast percentage of soldiers and Marines serving in Iraq are from California?

2007-03-13 05:45:29 AM
christ, some folks are dumb.

2007-03-13 05:46:38 AM
one of the largest and most populace states in the union has a large percentage of people who enlist in the armed forces. huh....

2007-03-13 05:56:04 AM
Sun God Did you know, that the vast percentage of soldiers and Marines serving in Iraq are from California?

52% of graduating recruits from MCRD san diego are from TX, so thats at least 1/4th the total force, your an idiot.

2007-03-13 06:25:13 AM
The 'tards on Fark have reached a new low. "I don't believe articles that have bylines from San Francisco." Just stunningly retarded.

2007-03-13 06:29:00 AM
25% come back mental? That's amazing therapy, since you must be 100% mental to go.

2007-03-13 06:29:09 AM
Going to a warzone for any extended period with fark with your head, I'm sure.

2007-03-13 06:31:57 AM
this story

Quitters. Serves 'em right for not supporting the troops.

and now the tards from the other side of the fence arrive

2007-03-13 06:39:44 AM
upon re-reading, it's not a san-fran/new york exchange rate. it's my own lack of reading comprehension. and to think with my 799 IQ and 3 billion dollar income that i can't read a simple article, plagiarized by our best and britest.

2007-03-13 06:41:09 AM
Am I the only one who thought this needed the Obvious tag?

2007-03-13 06:43:37 AM

"Seal's group based their findings on records of US veterans deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan who were seen at VA health care facilities between September 2001 and September 2005."

wow, so of those who GO TO VA HEALTH CARE FACILITIES, 25% had mental issues. seems like an important sentence fragment.

but continue arguing based on faulty representations of numbers.

Same story in every war, we never learn the lesson.

2007-03-13 06:49:13 AM
Does this explain their voting tendencies as well?

2007-03-13 06:50:26 AM
Funny, none of the other three guys in my unit seem mental.

/getting a kick out of these replies.

2007-03-13 06:55:38 AM
from another report using the same information: 100% of all returning veterans who were polled when they visited a VA Hospital had either a mental condition or a physical injury suffered in Iraq.

Therefore, 100% of people coming back from Iraq are injured!

2007-03-13 06:56:05 AM
In war, there are no unwounded soldiers.
Jose Narosky

the other three just aren't totally mental.

That's what our troops need! A can of chicken noodle soup, some Dasani, a bubble bath and Wal-Mart smiley. Rub-a-dub-dub, get out of the tub, and you're ready to re-deploy! Thanks, unnamed Napoleonic military doctor!

GungFu: "And was their average age ni-nnnnn-nn-ni-nn-nnnnn-ni-nineteen?"

Why do I have the sudden urge to dance?

IAmRight: wow, so of those who GO TO VA HEALTH CARE FACILITIES, 25% had mental issues. seems like an important sentence fragment.

Don't let mere facts get in the way of a good Fark lib-rage.

2007-03-13 06:58:37 AM
So three in four who go are mental beforehand?

Really, is anyone still surprised that war messes with people's heads?

2007-03-13 07:03:02 AM
Detroit_Bob

By all means, everyone can rage, I just don't want them thinking such a high percentage of us are crazy. I AM looking for a job. :-P

2007-03-13 07:03:48 AM
Ya, that's sad and all, but how does this affect my Halliburton stock?

/that was sarcasm

2007-03-13 07:05:00 AM
Yeah, I guess if I ended up in a VA health care facility with a missing leg, I would be a little mental too

2007-03-13 07:05:04 AM
"Would I go looking for a cure for my foot problem in the Archive of Dermatology?"

Since your foot is presumably covered in skin...quite possibly.

2007-03-13 07:06:01 AM
This is all part of Jesus' plan. The PUSA really thinks so.

2007-03-13 07:06:42 AM
christ on a cracker.

step back for a second. i know it'll be rough, but for a second...take a step back.

take a look at the information provided.

it tells you two things -
1, that war frequently sucks, and can tend to mess with people's heads. no, you don't win a cookie for pointing out that the stats are of those that went to VA hospitals. it means *you can read*. no hidden subterfuge laid aside here....you can read. yaaaaaay.
2, if nothing else, it means that mental health problems are at the very least beginning to be addressed - screening is at least on a surface level becoming part of the process. this is a good thing. yes, it will mean 'X% show mental problems'. that folks have problems adjusting with war isn't a bad thing. it's just how it is.

it's far from a perfect situation, but fer frigs sake...this isn't data that marks out 'hey, x% are crazy-pants!!!' - this is data that marks out 'hey, x% are being diagnosed and receiving some help when they damn well need it'.

2007-03-13 07:09:19 AM
I wonder what this ratio was like in the 90s.

/that's freaking sarcasm
