Odds are they were arguing about her infidility and inability to tell the truth before they got carjacked. That's why they didn't see the attackers coming. pfft. this is business as usual in south america. They carjack you, take you to the nearest ATM, make you take out the max amount, drive you to the middle of nowhere (typically near the border with another country), make you take off your clothes and leave you there.
