I'm shocked, shocked! to discover that another high-ranking al qaeda leader isn't, in fact, that.

You'd think there was some kind of benefit to the government inflating the job titles of recent arrests to show some kind of "progress" in a war against an enemy that, were such arrest declarations accurate, seems to provide #3 ranks with the same ease as the Universal Life Church provides the title of minister.

2007-03-10 07:02:59 AM
He was actually an Ore-Ida Board member.

2007-03-10 07:08:51 AM
Come on, if he hasn't admitted yet, he wasn't tortured waterboarded interrogated enough.

2007-03-10 07:10:10 AM
Why not just label all Iraqis honourary members of Al Qaeda? If you really cared about the troops you'd make their lives easier.

2007-03-10 07:11:25 AM
"But he was a senior al Qaeda leader," said Iraqi military spokesman Qassim Moussawi.

Does the guy have an actual name? The article never mentions one. How do the Iraqis know the guy's position if they don't know for sure who he is yet?

And just how many senior leaders does al Qaeda have? This is their problem -- too top-heavy and bureaucratic.

Oops! It appears we Baghed the wrong Dadi.

It would seem that al-Qaeda and similar groups are not centralized, instead utilizing loosely networked cells made up of not more than a few folks a piece. This'd cut down on the problematic possibility of one or two guys being captured and ratting out lots and lots of people.

Anybody know if this is the case? It sure as hell seems to be.

"But he was a senior al Qaeda leader," said Iraqi military spokesman Qassim Moussawi.

Congratulations! You captured the al-Qaeda senior janitor! After four more captures of other janitorial staff you can trade them in for an official al-Qaeda intern!

/remember when you could trade in crappy prizes for good ones at local arcades?

We'll know were making progress when we finally capture His Emminence the Grand High Poobah of Terror.

Anyone else see that CNN has a story on it's main page entitled something like, "If Still alive, Osama bin Ladin turns 50".

Really, CNN? If still alive? He's probablly living in Mushariff's closet with hot nurses wearing burkakini's.

I know our government, certainly didn't capture or kill him - despite saying we were going to. I really appreciate how our President has managed to acknowledge this failure as well by claiming that "Bin Ladin was never a priority".

No, when we capture the Supreme Overlord of Terror the war can be declared won. The Grand High Poobah of Terror is just a figurehead.

Here's the shocking truth: there IS no al-Qaeda. No group ever called themselves that. There's no coordination between "cells", and no "cell" thinks of themselves as being one. There just are a load of people who, from time to time, agree on wishing some stuff would blow up, and then going about making it so. Most of the time, the stuff they would like to blow up is just settling old scores, it just so happens that it's easier to get some explosives if your target happens to be pro-American today.

Just like there is no global conspiracy of Cat People, but none the less you can find people who have cats in their homes, shops that sell cat-oriented merchandise, and even cat conventions.

There's no Great Leader of the Cat People, no single person or group of "senior" people that you can kill to make the Cat People go away. Likewise, finding or killing Bin Laden wouldn't make anti-american sentiment go away, much like killing the organizer of a cat fair wouldn't make people stop liking cats.

the organization is fiction. It doesn't exist. It's all a huge fraud.

Bin Laden = Cat Lady.

Well as long as the nonexistant orginization confines itself to blowing up europeans that I am fine with that. Of course I am not entirely convinced europe exists either. Having been born there that also puts my existance in doubt. Which means this job probibly does not exist and I am a figment of the computers imagination.

/wonder why its not playing freecell instead?

Perhaps providing #3 ranks with the same ease as the Universal Life Church provides the title of minister is the group's organizational strategy.

Has anyone on here heard of KARMA ?
I'm puzzled how you guys can be so sure our loss in Iraq won't result in our demise .

Seems not all learned any lessons from the five times Al Qaeda has hit us and took American lives.
How many have to die to convince you guys its real.

The Jews huh OK , what would you do if Canada or Mexico launched rockets and suicide bombers on the USA and killed or maimed 2 % of our population not counting all the friendly Palestinians Assassinated because they lived and worked happily with our Jews.
I know we would roll out the red carpet and lay down for them. Sure !
Obey was right Idiot Libtards!

if he had been captured there would have been many reasons not to go public with the fact - a couple of examples why this might be: to try to turn him and put him back, to prevent a smooth succession, or so that it can be denied that he is in continuing custody. for those reasons, conspiracies or not, the possibility that someone went public with it, that doing so was seen as detrimental and that this statement is now a cover-up should, imo, not be dismissed

Al Qaeda was created by the US government, paid for by the american taxpayers.

larry00: Has anyone on here heard of KARMA ?

Yes. I also think it's silly, because karma almost universally includes the belief in a spiritual aspect to existence. In my opinion any true and objective examination of the available facts reveals that spirituality is the result of low self-esteem and poor education. I believe that additional studies will yield the result that these are the same traditional causes for people voting Republican, aside from the already obvious cause, i.e., the lack of a soul.

Any effort to divorce the spiritual element from the concept of karma, leaving you with simple "cause and effect" thinking means you're really just using the word "karma" to sound cool, rather than using a word that makes far more sense and creates less ambiguity, like causation.

I can see two possible problems for you, so depending on which is the case, I suggest:

A. Grow up and quit being superstitious.

B. Grow up and quit being a wanker.

C. Suicide

/always guess C!

I'm pretty sure he's referring to our funding of radical Islamic fighters during the Cold War. So yeah, he's pretty much spot on there.

al-Qaeda IMO is a philanthropic group that funds those groups deemed worthy. If a group of anti-Western loosely Muslim malcontents come up with a mission to inflict causalities on Western or pro-Western targets then they're in the fold. Of course the group members has to use suicide/martyrdom so as the survivors will not unsurp al-Qaeda's "leadership".

al-Qaeda has their own best dictatorial interest at heart, any other philosophy is a target, especially the House of Saud.

This is a glorious victory for the US Democrat party. Initially the reports out of Iraq didn't look good for the dems, but it turned into a double victory.

their militant ally in iraq wasn't captured AND
The US is embarrassed by the false claim.

I can't wait for the democrat and AQ leaders to crow about this victory and use it as leverage to hasten the US retreat and defeat in Iraq!!!

Thank you mother earth for providing the dems this victory. We praise thee and work to save thee from Bush and global warming. Aperson.

had anyone ever used the name "al qaeda" before bin laden's trial for the african embassy bombings? it was introduced as evidence of conspiracy so they could prosecute him without direct evidence under the RICO act. the testimony that 'prooved' this organization existed was in fact payed for by the prosecution. since then, the name's been used by various islamic militants, but never before.

mild7 I know responding to you is as useful and productive as me putting in my weave with a staple gun, only more painful. But I feel compelled to make this point:

Did you ever wonder, for even a millisecond, that the reason much of the news coming out of the Middle East is good for Democrats isn't the fault of the Democrats? That it is kinda, maybe, possibly, perhaps, sort of the fault of the Republicans for being-- oh, I don't know-- slightly incompetent?
