Shenanigans. He can't even pronounce "nuclear". How the hell could he say anything in Hawaiian right?

2007-03-04 06:15:40 AM
There are many people with fancy degrees hanging on their wall that pronounce nuclear in the same way.

Tell me, when he says it and it "grates" upon your perfectly attuned ears of human speechery (heh) do you somehow think he is saying a word which is in some way foreign to you?

MrBigglesworth: do you somehow think he is saying a word which is in some way foreign to you?

No. I somehow think that he's a total dumbass who isn't even qualified to be a meter reader. "Nook-yu-lar" is just icing on the cake.

Doesn't anybody RTFA anymore?

First lady Laura Bush was the first person to publicly say the new Hawaiian name of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument created by her husband last June.

You know, there is a lot more to be upset about Bush with than his pronunciation. But cry about it if you want.

It wouldn't have surprised me, everyone always said he couldn't speak English (which makes sense, since he hates America), but other languages weren't out of the question.

PopahanaWhatathehella : I knew it all along! It's a conspiracy by the Hawaiians to overthrow the gov. and make us eat Papaya's.
But using the First Lady as a spokes lady is really sneaky.
I like pineapple and Breadfruit!
Those young ladies are really hot but the bloom fades really fast I hear.

I suppose you're right. The ability to speak fluidly and enunciate words is something that is reserved for the lowly grunts of a society. Surely, it comes into play rarely, if ever, for one who counts among his major duties the representation of an entire population both locally and abroad.

Thank you for taking the time this morning to show us the error of our ways and to remind us of the fact that if there are bigger problems than problem X, that problem X is undeserving of attention. Without your clear and concise logic, we, the farkers, would truly be lost.

We cry about the erosion of the Constitution, the gross incompetence in any number of matters foreign and domestic, the rampant crony-ism and corruption, the fear mongering, double speak and outright lies, the emphasis on party and ideological loyalty over ability or basic competence, and others to numerous to list.

We laugh at the inability to speak in coherent sentences and use correct pronunciation.

IT WAS HIS WIFE THAT PRONOUNCED IT YA DAMN FREAKS!

I know RTFA is hard and none of us like to do it - but with this one you didn't even have to read the article. There's a big pretty picture.

:-P

Geesh.

Not that Laura Bush didn't do a better job at the task than either the sorry Mr. Cheney or her husband could have done.

Could be worse?

I mean damn... what are we going to do when the First Lady starts making awesome foreign policy moves (granted, I don't think that's really happened since Elenor Roosevelt). Imagine the brilliant troll headlines that will come of that...

Dick would have lobed a few grenades into the marine sanctuary and scooped up a few of the endangered KikaKapu, or HumuhumunukunukuA-pua'a and taken them to a local restaurant to have the shrapnel removed, broiled.

So they sent the first lady.

Seemed like a good call to me.

Besides, Dick couldn't pronounce HumuhumunukunukuA-pua'a.

But the HumuhumunukunukuA-pua'a really are good broiled.

With garlic butter.

FTA: Just what does Papahanaumokuakea mean, you ask?

"The name ... comes from an ancient Hawaiian tradition concerning the genealogy and formation of the Hawaiian Islands. Papahanaumoku (who is personified in the Earth), and Wakea (who is personified in the expansive sky) were two of the most recognized ancestors of our people. Their union resulted in the creation or 'birthing' of the entire archipelago." -- Kekuewa Kikiloi, native Hawaiian Cultural Program coordinator for the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument

Me, specifically? Not much, really, although I do not like my government indefinitely jailing people, torturing people, starting unjustified wars...well, actually, since my tax money finances all that, then I'd say that's how it changed.

And 3200 Americans are dead, leaving many thousands grieving. But that's not me, so no big deal, right?

And 30,000 (at least) Americans are seriously wounded, and receiving sub-par attention from the Bush administration, and bringing hardship on thousands (or millions) more. But that's not me, so no big deal, huh?

Yeah, things have actually changed very little for me.

The difference is, I'm not a self-centered prick, so others getting screwed bothers me.

It's nice that it doesn't bother you, though.

When you're only defense is: 'there must exist examples in history that are worse that our guys misdeeds,' you're already failed in your defense.

He did try to deny Habeus Corpus to an American citizen, something that hasn't been done since the Civil War, and even then, in a time of actual insurrection, the courts denied the President the authority to suspend the right.

He did violate the FISA by not obtaining warrants for the domestic side of international phone calls.

He may have violated the 1934 Telecommunications Act by gathering information about millions of domestic phone calls without judicial approval.

His administration did 'cherry pick' intelligence leading up to the Iraq war, presenting both Congress and the American people not with accurate information but with a one sided, and ultimately completely wrong assessment of Iraqi's threat to us.

But you're right, all that an much more has been perpetrated against the American people before, does that somehow absolve this President and his administration of their crimes? Does that mitigate the harm this administration has done to America domestically and abroad? How does the fact that President Lincoln tried to hold American's without trial make it less reprehensible that President Bush is doing so?
Shall I take the fact that this President is neither the first nor the last to abuse his power to mean that we should not lament actions that do harm to us? Has the your moral relativism reach such a point that so long as you can find reprehensible actions in the past to liken the present you find no wrong with what is happening?

Yes, because it's not enough just to hear about suspension of our amendment rights and illegal activity, the men in black actually have to break down our own door before we should say anything.

like global warming?

Oh for Chrissakes.

Remember, Gannon's Remorse, if you don't trust the government implicitly to do what's best for you, the terrorists win.
How do you know your emails weren't high-jacked by terrorists and embedded with secret plans to destroy America? Can you really say for sure that's your aunt on her European Vacation you called, and not Osama bin Laden?

And now that nobody can pronounce it or spell it, nobody will care about it!

If you make something hard to talk about, most people won't. You may now proceed to do whatever the f*ck you please with it.

Like you're already doing with the much easier to pronounce Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

You should see what some of the people around here name their KIDS.

http://starbulletin.com/2007/03/04/news/vitals.html

Let's see now, who is this week's winners?

Ah, let us drink a toast to the weddings of:
» Charles Lahaina Luna and Chari-Anne Reiko Kamakanananimaikahaku Kahealani Gonzales
» Gavin Naoki Nakamura and Laura Mahealani Leimomi Waiola Dement Trent
» Calvin Lanakila Park Jr. and Ashkea Makaea Tynisha Fetuao Iokepa
» David Kawika Ikaika Kaimana Hiapo Sylva and DeeDee Leilani DeLeon Guerrero
» Leolofi Tataipu and Shardel Kaluaokauluwehionapua Bush

And break out the cigars so that we may welcome to the world:

Kodie Nono Rufina Mealofamanaiamailelagi Star Dauz-Gusman
Kailike Kanani o' Kamahina Amena Hoku o' Nalani Madolora
Jayden Kamakanamaikalani Garidan Miyahira
Shayne Catherine Mariko 'Ailanakamana'o Muller
Sophia Elizabeth Kahilulani'onohinohiula Rostron

Actually, scratch the cigars. You're going to need every bit of lung capacity you've got to say those names. I'm counting some upwards of twenty syllables.

I just went to last week's. Some are even better.

Benhielden Kahaleipukukuiiakamaiiakupaianahaikaika Del Toro and Chassidy Ann Javelina Quayle

» Bryndee-Anne Caetyln Ke'alohilani Masayumi Yamasaki
