wow, i don't know shiat about coding and i can tell this guy doesn't know shiat about coding an OS.

2007-03-01 08:08:43 PM
I don't think you need to be a coding geek to get a "WTF?" out of that one. The $3k max budget is comedy gold.... we've paid twice that for custom TAPI integration projects.

6 days to code, 1 to rest

Brilliant.

2007-03-01 08:10:00 PM
Hahaha. New OS. Sure, i'll have that done by lunch time, no sweat.

I love how all the Indian guys are taking the proposal seriously.

I like the bids.

Hi. I can do this for you next week, when I plan on taking a break from a nonotech based / atomic fission driven search engine thats going to make larry page wet his pants

Hi. I can do this for you next week, when I plan on taking a break from a nonotech based / atomic fission driven search engine thats going to make larry page wet his pants. 6 days to code, 1 to rest. It will be written from scratch and completely original in design, so don't worry about copyright bs. I plan to write the entire OS in C, and blindfolded, if its all the same to you. 100% secure will not be a problem either...In fact the OS will be designed to leverage jedi mind tricks to kill anyone that even thinks about breaking in. (i was thinking maybe make them chop off their feet and jump up and down until their empty would be fair). Anyways, I'm gonna smoke some more crack, maybe you should do the same. Thanks!
Bid Time: 01-21-2007 19:11

Tears of awesome.

2007-03-01 08:12:14 PM
Has to be a joke. Nobody can be that stupid. An OS that runs everything XP can is obviously worth more than $3000.

yeah, good luck with that.

2007-03-01 08:16:59 PM
bwahahahahahaha oh dear lord. A $1-3k budget to rebuild Windows XP? I would love to have some of whatever this guy is smoking, cause it's obviously good shiat.

/doesn't roll out of bed for less than $120/hr

Another great comment from the site:

"The Professor has just notified me that the flux capacitor is complete. This means I can complete your project in -21 years. This means that you can get the heads up on MS and be a market leader by tomorrow. You will have the first OS with a complete GUI and also be the first one to introduce home internet access to dozens of people across the planet."

That was positively the most awesome thing I've EVER seen.

I second the part about the Indians taking it hook-line-and-curry. And that they can do it in java.

Might I introduce you to the worse than failure (formerly the daily wtf) website?

Not only are there suits that are that stupid, there are coders to compliment them, too...

I have Vista at work. It put each and every email I sent from my home computer to my work computer in the junk mail file. I think Bill Gates hired somebody using this ad.

I seem to remember you saying once you were a .NET developer. Did I remember that right?

MikeHoncho: Didn't Billy-boy buy DOS for 10k back in the day?

$25k. He sold an initial license to IBM for $50k.

I look forward to this project as it will truly be some ground breaking stuff. Regards Brad, (ps. Do you know where I can score some more crack, I ran out whilst chasing pixies through the lolly-pop castle)

I love prgrammers.

You and I are kindred spirits, I believe.

Bill Gates paid $80,000 in 1981 for a pirated copy of CP/M, with another $50,000 to Gary Kildall to keep him from suing.

I love how all the Indian guys are taking the proposal seriously.

I'm amused that most of them seem to be web guys.
Those Indians really must be l33t coders, writing an OS in ASP/Javscript/Flash. :)

/that makes more than me
//but in Canadian, so it doesn't count
//as much

2007-03-01 08:36:02 PM
Dr._Michael_Hfuhruhurr: Wrong, and pissed you off.

That was my coding snobbery coming out. I've been a perl coder for almost ten years now. I can also (if required) work in java. And there's the common knowledge stuff like javascript, html, xml, etc. But perl's my baby. And I do it in VI on a solaris box. I'm so badass.

goeniegoegoe: Does that include a happy end?

That costs extra.

Thanks... now you got me all hot 'n bothered.

// does c/c++,php, js,html, sql damn near whatever somebody wants...

2007-03-01 08:46:43 PM
i always wondered why coding something in vi on a solaris box, or similar claims, is considered a feat.

it's a goddamn text editor that any tard could learn how to use if you invest some time reading the man page. it says absolutely nothing at all about the quality of your code.

I get the $3K, and no lawsuits from BSA

Seconded.
Some people still think it's cool to use some tools from the eighties to code I guess.

I couldn't tell if the Indians responding were fake or not.

I don't want to sign up just to comment there, but to their user who says that it's difficult to do windows because microsoft doesn't document their stuff....

If they didn't document their stuff, no one would be writing programs for it. The entire Win32 API documentation is on MSDN, and is free for public access. The reason why Wine isn't 100% complete is because it's TIME CONSUMING not that it's exceptionally DIFFICULT. Yes, it would take less time than the nearly 20 years Windows current core has been in development, but probably not significantly less.

Can't argue with that. But I wonder if lawsuits are exactly what they are looking for? How many schmucks had the same idea that I had, but decided to actually try to pull it off?

/Bet it is some kind of sting if not a joke.

You have a point there.

On the other hand, when trying to decide between evil intent and stupidity, I bet on stupidity.

I agree with you up to a point. I generally use vi when I am editing a conf file or writing a small shell script.

If I am coding for 'nix, I tend to WIMP out and go with the X based editors/environments.

I mentioned this to a pro who has been coding exclusively in vi since 1981. He proceeded to take me to school on just what could be done with vi. Yikes! Lots more stuff than you could find in the man page. And having done it for (at the time) almost a quarter of a century, he was fast.
