I didn't realise you didn't already have these.

I found a 2nd class stamp so old the glue had gone, I had to stick it down with tape.

What? No references to Forever War yet? The government is going to make you the ghey! Good start with the cliché though.

They always do this.

Whenever postage goes up, first class stamps are good for a very long time afterward. That's why they have no price on them.

/confused

I knew herpes had to work its way in there right from the start.

FirstDennis: first class stamps are good for a very long time afterward

Yes, but these are good FOREVER. Usually the interim stamps go bad within a specified amount of time. So... if you buy these now at this price, they will always work.. no matter if the price goes up later.

/I'm not saying it's not dumb...
//whoo hoo.. I am running to the post office to stock up so I can save 50 cents over the next 20 years!

2007-03-11 06:44:21 PM
I rarely vote for cliche type entries, but in this case, there were a couple of oddly appropriate and clever uses.

2007-03-11 06:46:22 PM
think maybe the post office knows something we don't?

2007-03-11 06:46:53 PM
Well, US, the Canadian Post Office has beat you to it.

img391.imageshack.us

Note there is no denomination on it, only the letter "P" in a maple leaf..

You see, Canada Post is just as much into keeping inflation rolling along as its US counterpart, but this way, they don't have to print a bunch of one-cent stamps when the rates go up to 52 cents. (it costs more to print the 1 cent stamps plus returning all the insufficient postage mail to sender.)

Smart, eh?

At least in the case of run-away inflation, they wouldn't have to keep changing the amount every day.

(But that won't happen, of course.)

It's pretty clever, really. People will immediately buy hundreds more stamps than they will ever use. This year's USPS budget shortfall=fixed.

/Next year...sell the trucks?
