submitter: Do you a) Ring the... aaah, forget it. This is Fark, you know it's going to be c)

You're just saying that because the article really doesn't make it very clear what really happened...

I'm guessing the girl opened the door and tried to jump out, along with her friend. However, was it the front door? The emergency back door?

Poorly written article with very few details except a bunch of people saying, "it could have been worse."

2007-02-27 11:19:04 AM
I could be worse. It could be raining.

How do you end up on the roof of a car after falling off a bus?

Raining sulfuric poo.

Thank you for actually being clever with the multiple-choice-cliche, submitter.

2007-02-27 01:37:25 PM
So, she missed her stop, and decided to just jump off of the bus?

Please tell me that didn't happen. There can't be people in this world that stupid, can there?

2007-02-27 01:37:41 PM
The only way for someone to fall ON TOP of the roof of a car is for them to climb through the emergency windows which you can push out.

2007-02-27 01:37:43 PM
I didn't RTFA OR Read the headline! clicky clicky posty posty!

Fortunate?

If you leap from a moving bus onto a parked car soley because you missed your stop you need to be hunted down and shot by the Darwin Police.

2007-02-27 01:38:38 PM
"The girl had landed on the roof of a parked car leaving a dent in it."

English fatty trifecta in play.

2007-02-27 01:39:03 PM
A clear sign of the ongoing mental retardation of the masses...She was 14! What kind of idiot would jump out of a moving bus? Or, even then, who would jump out without making sure there wasn't a parked car in the way? Darwin is calling her name...

2007-02-27 01:39:05 PM
Look on the bright side: Maybe her teeth are better now than they were before.

2007-02-27 01:39:14 PM
With a teen girl involved I would usually ask for pics in a snarky manner, but since she just face-planted on a parked car, this time I'll pass.

This is BBC. British buses have doors considerably farther from the ground than American buses. And the car was probably some Geo-type shrunken vehicle. They've got a lot of those over the pond too.

A German cyclist once told me this:

Don't use your face as a brake pad.

/Words to live by.

2007-02-27 01:42:01 PM
Two ambulances, an officer, a doctor and the air ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene in the Sparkhill area of the city, as reports suggested the girl might be unconscious and in cardiac arrest.

I have never, ever heard of that. So, not only does she get two ground ambulences in case in case one breaks down, she gets a helicopter, and a doctor? I don't live in the UK, so excuse me if this is the norm. Cardiac arrest is a big deal, but I've never heard of the National Guard being mobilized like that.

Was it the short bus?

2007-02-27 01:43:42 PM
Well, it's the BBC. That means it's a double-decker bus, right? She jumps offs the upper level of a double-decker bus, lands on a car. It all makes sense now.

/What, they're not all double-decker buses?

You can use the emergency door-opening buttons to open the second set of doors. Buses are usually higher than cars, and a person's centre of gravity is obviously not in their feet, so someone falling from a moving bus would definitely land above the boot of a car, and most likely end up on the roof.

I saw an old dude fly off the back of a Routemaster bus on Essex Road in London once - it was dodging a car and made a rather sharp right-hand turn. The old guy was on the platform waiting to get off at the stop 20m down the road. Those things were dangerous :)

whatshisname: How do you end up on the roof of a car after falling off a bus?

A bus in the UK is usually two stories tall, like this one...

I was visiting a buddy one time and missed the train stop. It had snowed a lot (many years ago) and I decided to use a snow back as a landing bag. The train was flying down the tracks and I bailed, back first, into the pile.

Everything turned out fine, no sticks, bottles or homeless to break my fall.

What sucked is that I had to walk miles to get back to his place, thereby making the snow less welcome as the hours wore on.

Missed by that much.

She suffered facial injuries while her friend managed to hold on to a railing inside the bus.

Translation:
She jumped, face-planted and looked up, then her friend went:

I have never, ever heard of that. So, not only does she get two ground ambulences in case in case one breaks down, she gets a helicopter, and a doctor?

I know that not all ambulances carry morphine, so perhaps the second one was dispatched with the doctor & air ambulance because of the seriousness.

/mate dislocated knee 12 miles from a town
//had to wait 20 minutes for the first ambulance which had laughing gas
///and another 20 for the second with morphine
