What goes around comes around.

2007-02-26 01:11:41 PM
To clarify, it's not ironic that they're complaining, it's ironic that the jobs are outsourced from India.

2007-02-26 01:13:27 PM
if this trend continues, eventally people in america will start getting jobs

2007-02-26 01:13:39 PM
Funny, I didn't hear them complaining in the article. If anything, the Indian guy said it's better to go the Phillipines for marketing stuff.

2007-02-26 01:13:56 PM
Cue 'Indians calling tech support have difficulty understanding accents' in 5, 4, 3...

2007-02-26 01:13:58 PM
I can't comment on the irony level of this, as my irony-judgement has been outsourced.

2007-02-26 01:13:58 PM
So what's next?

"Filipino workers complain about outsourcing of jobs to sharks with frickin lasers on their heads. Ironic tag drowns"?

2007-02-26 01:14:54 PM
boardatwork- that was my exact first thought.

2007-02-26 01:16:19 PM
I'm sure the Phillippinos are taking classes so they sound like they are from India. :)

2007-02-26 01:17:54 PM
I'll take a Filipino worker any day over an Indian worker. Filipinos actually care about learning the English language, and don't have all those retarded Indian cultural norms like castes.

Too bad most of the country is totally corrupt.

2007-02-26 01:19:04 PM
What I would love to hear is an Indian calling for tech support to a phillipino ("hello my name is Arijab") & not understanding a farking word.

/circle of fun would be complete.

2007-02-26 01:21:29 PM
It's pretty funny. Granted there are plenty of Filipinos with heavy accents (my parents being two of them) but there are a lot of them with completely neutral American accents. And, believe me, I'm trained to listen for Filipino accents. Hell, they sound just like me and I was born in the States.

When I visited there, everybody thought I was from Manila, based on my accent. You'd think my inability to speak Tagalog would've been enough to convince them that I was from the U.S.

2007-02-26 01:21:35 PM
submitter should eat heartily from the Irony Tree.

I claim that story: IRONIC. *throws tomato at wedding parade*

2007-02-26 01:21:36 PM
It would be interesting what would happen if these workers were put to use building up their own local economies, rather than just leaching off foreign economies. Within a few years, there would probably be a much more robust international economy, with more real prosperity.

/This would be more convincing if I had a couple of beers.

whodigsben: You'd think my inability to speak Tagalog would've been enough to convince them that I was from the U.S.

Probably because they assumed you spoke one of the hundreds of lesser Filipino dialects besides Tagalog. ;)

This is a sign that India is prospering. Jobs are good. Yay on the free market.

Just think, in a hundred years, when our educational system leaves America as an impoverished, third-world country...
Hopefully all of those jobs will come back to us.

How do you say 'DEY TOOK OUR JOBS!' in Hindi?

2007-02-26 01:39:20 PM
Nothing new here. It's just the downward spiral moving to the next lowest common denominator.

Gee, if only there were a way to stop the governments' central banks from devaluing their respective currencies, none of these economic imbalances would ever occur.

Of course, the central bankers are smarter than me. When things get to the breaking point, they will just press the ole money reset button, starting WW III while they inhabit some nice beachfront propety.

Got Gold? Or Guns? Or Groceries?

Either "Would you like fries with that sacred cowburger?" or "Thank you and may you be coming again"?

My wife's brother's ex-girlfriend was Filipino. She was incredibly hot. Looked like Beyonce, except she was hotter. Loved to dress real skimpy too.

Too bad all Filipinos smoke like chimneys.

I just turned down a new better paying tech job literally 2 hours ago because they wouldnt allow me two weeks to get my current job settled when I leave. Heck they didnt even want to do an interview, just wanted me to start working tommorow! The agency that called me to offer the job I believe must be based out of India because the lady who called me had the accent, and when I called her back a receptionist had the same accent, who forwarded me to her boss who had the accent who forwarded me to her voicemail where I heard her "hindi" accent again. When I called the number I know I heard it forward at least once so I am betting it was an over seas tech support company who must be outsourcing local tech support now to US buisness, weird cycle aint it?

Or maybe that company just had alot of hindu's who knows. All I know is I hope I dont regret trying to give my current job 2 weeks :(

/makes 13$ an hour as an IT manager.
//jusst turned down $17.50 at start for in-house tech support.
///is a moron, so dont say it.
////Slashie goodness!!!

OMG Free market system, somebody stop it

2007-02-26 01:44:23 PM
Eventually the jobs will all return to the US, as all the foreigners who will own the entire country will need us to do their laundry, mow their grass, cook and clean for them.

Won't have to worry 'bout raising their kids though, as they will be smart enough not to let us dirty 'Mericans near them, and aren't afraid to be racist about it.

/oh, and don't forget to vote for this
//cuz you are gonna get governed real good

Everybody is forgetting the best part about the Phillipines. Phillipino women don't usually have any body hair. That's right you don't have to worry about picky legs rubbing your back or neck. And they don't have to wax down there. If you know what I mean.

I don't know what Philipina chicks you've been going down on, but I'm pretty sure that's not true (at least that's been my experience).

/should I be posting this from work?
//ah, why not.

theorellior

Or more accurately, me saying repeatedly, "Seriously, dude, this is my first time in the Philippines," should have been enough to convince them that I wasn't from there.

Shazam999
Really? Probably the FOBs smoke, but none of the first generation.

And to everyone, don't discount what drive and education will get you. The Philippines has the highest literacy rate in the world while the state of the education system here, uh, remains relatively unimpressive. I'm just glad that I'm alive now while things are good. In 100 years, I hate to see what the US will look like.

/yes, I actually watched Mike Judge's Idiocracy.

There were dozens of Phillipinos that were enlisted in the Army with me. I banged a couple and it was true. I asked some Phillipine men if it was something regular to their country and they said yes.

This shiat has got to stop.

Circuit City is most recent on the list to lose my business...

Had an issue with a eGift certificate at Christmas time. The guy named "Mike" in Calcutta could not get his english straight enough to have a discussion about the problem or even resolve it.

One has no business in phone support for Americans when english is a second language.

Plain and simple.

Of course they shave/wax. They just do it when you're not looking. Like a ninja. And then they don't tell you about it, that's the important thing.

Anyway, +1 to Smitty for spelling Philippines correctly. Maybe if we're lucky we can turn this thread into another "how to spell Filipino" debacle.

I lost my job to massive layoffs at Dell a long time ago when the jobs went overseas, and I actually dont have a problem with them usually. If they have decent "Merican Language pronunciation" courses in thier building then you can usually tell they have an accent or at least an occasional odd inflection but at least they are understandable. But the places that dont even try, yea those kinda get to me, I hate a 3 minute tech support call taking 30 minutes cause you gotta have everything repeated 10 times.

2007-02-26 02:23:18 PM
Oh for the day when it comes full circle, someone in india calls for customer service and gets some (disclaimer: please don't take offense, just using this for the comedic value) female, gum chomping, hillbilly, trailer trash person answering the phone, but they've been taught to speak there language so it's okay, right ;-)

orclover: I hate a 3 minute tech support call taking 30 minutes cause you gotta have everything repeated 10 times.

Agreed. Have to call Verizon to get your neighbor's DSL account set up anytime soon? Don't. You'll end up not getting the account set up and walking away from the phone with your brain melting out of your ears.

Oddly enough, I haven't had this problem on the rare occasion my FiOS cuts out...

And the other used to work for Mars Inc (MEI or something like that) as an IT contractor - they wouldn't/couldn't hire him full-time because they were outsourcing to Brazil (even though he did his internship with them for four years or so, and he was awesome at it). As the time to switch over to the Brazilians got closer, the company expected him to help train them in his job. *snort*
