There were no other people in line. Remaining quiet and going along with lunacy is why it exists. I am a retired police officer and can assure you of one thing for certain. Power and authority need to be not only questioned but severely curtailed. Its abuse is the only true threat to our society. Sadly almost nothing they are doing today would have prevented 9/11. With or without box knives the pilots would have given in to a hijackers demands back then because it was protocal to do so. The pilots and flight crew were trained to go along with the hijackers demands to not escalate the situation. (Mostly because before 9/11 hijackers didn't use the planes for bombs killing themselves in the process.) The procedure was try to find what they wanted, try and calm them or at the least not excite them further be meeting some of their initial demands and let the trained negotiaters from the government handle the situation. By following the "rules" and not questioning what was going on the airline crews allowed the planes to be hijacked. On one of the planes some passengers "questioned" what was going on and fought back. If they hadn't we would most likely have no Whitehouse. Yes they had some additional information from a cell phone call one of them made but to make the call that person had to "question" the authority of the terrorists. If you don't fight against that which you feel or fear is wrong you are part of the wrong. I agree arguing with someone, who is swept up in the new found power the current wave of hysteria has granted, is likely to create problems for you and maybe someone behind you in line but if things continue the way they are going you won't have a line to stand in because many people will get fed up with it and quit flying. When that happens ticket prices will skyrocket and our taxes will go up to bailout the failing airlines. Wait that has already occured. Now if we all just quietly and peacefully go along with the new taxes needed to fund the non-war we aren't in and of course go along and not question the new laws that have been stripping us of our constitutional rights the lines will move faster and we can all live more productive lives.

In the case I sighted, at our local airport, enough people spoke out about the heavy handed actions of the security people and the procedure was changed. It took great courage to speak out because when they did they were labled anti-patriotic whiners and jerked around by the "powers to be". Here's a thought on that... If you use power and authority, that has been entrusted to you by the people you serve, to harass, intimidate and persecute them you are a terrorist.

I predict that one day some prankster is going to walk up to a security guard, make a gun with his fingers, point it at him and say "Bang!" That'll cause enough of a disturbance. With these "blanket rules" he'll be arrested within minutes.

Coming back from Maui last year security confiscated my 1 1/2 year-old daughter's forks out of her diaper bag. These were child-proof forks with blunk prongs and one of them was plastic!!! When they served us lunch on-board the plane what do you think they gave us with our meal? PLASTIC FORKS!!!!!!! With sharp prongs, no less. I wasn't scared to fly before we left home but after I found out what jack-asses are in charge of our safety....I was scared S**tless!

It's called Counterstrike and it's, um, realistic.

Actually I know some people involved in development of counterstrike and also with Global Ops (similar type of tactical shooter) Ive played both games extensively and have worked on mods for many types of shooters. I also have fired many military weapons at a shooting club that was at one time owned by my old roomates uncle. Although I'm probably not as experienced as some of the ex or current military guys here, but from my experience these games are realistic to those people that have never fired a weapon before. To those that have yourealize how unrealistic it actually is. The only real similarity is that visually it somewhat resembles what most people associate with firing a weapon, as seen in the movies.

I flew not too long ago. The list of 'banned' items was so utterly ridiculous you'd have to be an imbecile to try to take these things onto a plane. Hand grenades. Hockey sticks. Diving knives. Numchuks (sic). Basically things you'd NEVER take on a plane... and Megatron. But the folks at Baltimore International weren't total jerks, they weren't biased against decepticons. ALL transformers were banned. But my question is this, Megatron (a transformer which turned from a robot into a grey Walther handgun) is a highly collectable toy. What asshat not only brought one onto a plane, but decided to play with it.. post 9-11?

Yes, the GI Joe gun being confiscated was asinine. Same with the freaking Medal of Honor. I wear steel toed Docs, and for as long as I'd worn them they set off the metal dectectors. This time I wore aquasox, and left my Docs in my check in bag.

We're in trouble. If a real american hero (tm) can't be on the plane, Cobra's already won.

And the story I heard was the tobacco industry lobbied the hell out of the airlines to keep lighters allowed on planes, so us poor suckers who smoke can light up with little hassle. Yet most airports make you GO OUTSIDE to smoke. Some used to have smoking rooms, but I thought it was totally ridiculous to have to leave the airport and go through security again just to have one damned smoke. So if your airport won't let you smoke inside, how about banning lighters and in the smoking area have those hot spot lighters like they do in jails? How much sense is it to have the lighter but you can't smoke on the plane OR in the airport?

On my flight, we were given metal knives and forks. Sure, it was a butter knife, but you think I couldn't have killed someone with it?

it's a sad day when someone trying to carry a gun in a plane is a real American hero.

moviebuff-- I was one of the figures, figure one or two in the play The Monsters ars Due on Maple Street. It was back in jr. high. My girlfriend and I came up with pathetic costumes, rain ponchos, shaving cream all over our faces, and my mom's black wigs. After the show we threw the wigs in the air and one caught in the hooks holding the stage curtain up. Noone could open or shut the curtain. The janitor had to come and rip the wig down with a long hooked pole and all the while he kept swearing about what a bunch of whatever it was he called us. It was great.
Dollman would never put up with this airport nonsense.

OOHHOHOOHOHOHOHOH
I'm thinking of a gun as I go through airport security....
I have a Time magazine that has a picture of person carrying a gun associated with one of it's articles.
I can't get on because of my thoughts and I can't carry the magazine on because it has a "replica" of a gun.
What the fark have we come to in this country?
The Russian jolke is US.

Hasn't anyone figured out yet that The Sun is FAKE FAKE FAKE!!! It's the UK's version of the Weekly World News, except that it usually doesn't have Bat Boy type stories. Their stories usually BORDER on the completely ridiculous, but are almost believeable. But RARELY true.
