I thought it might be an article about how they age. A recent reunion on the "Girls Next Door" (E! channel) would suggest not very well. Perhaps out of politeness, one of the former centerfolds said how good the other one looked. I was thinking the opposite, like, what the hell happened? Did anybody else see that episode?

I thought the article was going to be a judgemental piece on how well they've aged rather than the casualty rate. It would be remarkable if you didn't have a few tragedies out of a group of 600 women. Claudia Jennings dying in a VW Bug on PCH is a far cry from a spiral of self-destruction. If she'd been in a more durable car she might have easily survived. Or even a more modern version of the same car with better safety design could have done the trick. And then we'd have been spared the idiocy of 'Thlma and Louise.' Claudia Jennings had the female empowerment thing down to a science in her action movies without the preachiness.

It's sad when a beauty dies young but recently I really felt a bit of my youth die when I saw an article about a TV reality series about wealthy wives in Orange County. One of the older women was a former Playboy Playmate I met several times while in my teens working at custom car shows. I still have the issue with her centefold she signed for me. It was a bit horrifying to see 25 years later that she hadn't merely aged, she'd also more than doubled her weight, turning into one of those muu-muu shrouded land masses. I can only wonder how far she got before she finally stopped trying to keep the pounds at bay.

So, the bunny ears serve as antennae for bad karma? Or maybe Hugh made a deal with Satan to trade centerfold souls in exchange for regular shipments of Demonic Viagra?

Odd they mentioned that 20 year old as the most remembered playmate death. I suppose Marilyn Monroe was not technically a playmate. She did, however, feature in the very first issue of Playboy. Included were her famous nude shots from a calendar made in 1949. These photos inspired her to issue the now cliche story of "I was young and needed the money". Also included were a handful of contemporary (1952-3? I forget the year) near nude photographs that showed the edge of her nip and the side of her bare rear.

Having the fastest rising bombshell of the day appear in the very first issue of a magazine with female nudes ensured the success of Hefner's magazine and the size of his bank account forever more.

My dad had that Wiley Ray centerfold tacked up in the club basement when I was 5 or 6. At that moment I knew I was het.

They left out Missy Cleveland, a playmate from the late 70's who died a few years back in Jackson, Mississippi.

I also think that this is much ado about nothing, compared to my contempories in the commericial fishing business. I was looking at an old photo that had fourteen of us in it; six are dead, two are in nursing homes, one is in the pokey.

Now look at the tens of thousands of women doing Internet porn. Surely they're at a heightened risk? Are we going to see a lot of them suddenly drop away in the next few decades?
