It's definitely a streetlamp. I have one outside my window too. It's very annoying.

Every single time I leave my house, I have to fight my way through hordes of worshippers come from far and wide to gaze in awe and wonder at its mysteries. A small shantytown has sprung up around the artifact. During daylight hours the faithful mostly lie sleeping in their forest of tents and crude huts, but the lamp is never without some wakeful admirers. It's during darkness, however, that the makeshift village really comes to life, its inhabitants rising from their squalid berths to look raptly upon the mysterious glowing object. They perform strange rituals, and caper at its base like apes at a monolith. "I love lamp, I love lamp", they chant, dancing their strange dances in its benevolent light.

"Fark off out of my way, filthy hippies", I say as I shoulder my way through the crowd.

IT'S AN AEROSTAT. They are tethered at 500-4,000 ft., depending on the location, and they and their tether must be lit up by FAA regulation for safety.

They are often mistaken for UFOs.

Oh, wicked, bad, naughty Zoot! She has been sending a light to our beacon, which, I have just remembered, is streetlight-shaped. It's not the first time we've had this problem.

WRONG. IT IS A LENS REFLECTION OF A STREETLAMP. That explains why it appears to be flying to the smitty.

Oh no.

This is indeed troubling. What you may have stumbled upon, dear submitter, is a classified project between NASA, the US Military and the reverse vampires to develop a secret technology which lights streets at night.

If this is true we're all in very serious trouble.

Still a streetlight - but then you knew that all along

/I'm still not giving you the benefit of the doubt. It is patently obvious to everybody that the object in question is a streetlight. You're just trying to make a name for yourself, even if that name is "idiot".

Seeing as there's a streetlight at exactly the right angle behind some trees in the last photo you posted, this is obviously the object. If it appeared in the sky it may have been an internal reflection inside your camera lens. Crap like that shows up in dark photos very easily in cheap lenses, and usually 180* opposite of center.

Judging by the crop of the original photo, where the streetlight was just off-frame, I'd say internal reflection is the best explination of the phenomenon you're describing.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Ok, I got my friend Jaxson and talked to him, he is going to get here on F.A.R.K. and look at the picture, but based on the detailed description I conveyed to him on the cellular phone he said it very likely that we spotted the same object at 2:40am here in austin texas usa. I will report back as soon as he confirms the picture.

I think last night at 2:40am I saw the same exact thing in Austin texas. I'm going out tonight with my digital camera to try and catch it. I used to live in Arizona and before that in California and I don't remember ever seeing this type of object before. I'm sure it must be the same thing, what time did you see it, it might have traveled to Austin texas usa and I saw it next. I think the other guy I was with saw it too, i'm trying to get him on the cell phone and I will post back here on F.A.R.K.

If you were at 48x zoom, the trailers likely came from your camera's stabilizer - an internal gyroscope that fixes your shaky hand. Software corrects for the rest of it, resulting in the main image appearing normal. (camera software is not perfect)

Try an experiment if you have a girlfriend:
Have her take a normal picture of your balls from one meter away, and then have her stand 48 meters away and photograph your balls again on 48x magnification (you may need a football stadium) and have a look at the resulting differences.

And then, whatever you do, do not post photos of your balls.

Dude...here's an idea.

Wait until daylight. Then, go out and take another picture of the streetlight you're trying to pass off as "I thought it was a planet, but it looks really weird."

It'll save a lot of time, and keep you from being ridiculed.

/oh, wait...you ARE being ridiculed.
