Cameron_Talley: PLEASE admit that IT IS A STREETLIGHT.

Stick to your guns Forked. If it gets ugly we'll bring the whole LP crew in here to be your posse.

Most TFarkers are not this obtuse.

That's it. Final proof it's THAT streetlight on the left.
These are the uncropped, slightly rotated, original images with opacity correction. Even the lights on the house match.

Wonder why forked_at_fark never replied to tfm_copycat's work above? Is this a pride thing now? One thing is for sure, though,....no wait, no it's not.

Sure is a good study in human foibles...

Voldemort I think it could be a streetlight.

Crazy talk. How will you feel when THEY take over our society because you didn't see the threat?

ChadManMn- read the f-in thread to get the answer to your #3.

Gaboo- "We were not there"? WTF. Do humanity a favor and don't procreate. We do not need anymore ####### like you on this earth. Forked deserves what she gets. Here's why:

-She thought it was a planet first (stupid, but hey we all make mistakes)
-She put up a survey and got all the info she needed. People told her it was a streetlight. Explained why it wasn't an aerostat. (didn't get it, but again, we all have a little pride that we can't swallow sometimes)
-They explained why the streetlamp popped in her frame even though she was aimed at the sky. Some people played with the photo to bring out the tree and house that were around the very photo she later posted (the one in daytime from a different angle).

After all this she won't admit it. She is either too stupid to deserve life, or is unwilling to admit the truth (i.e. coward).

/that is all.

Sweet monkey jesus...Damn you Wil Wheaton, that's two hours (of helpless giggling) that I'll never get back...

This thread is both making me want to get a TF subscription (to support crazy stuff like this) and giving me reason not to (2. Hours. Of. Reading. 1. Thread.) I'd never get a damned thing done again. Maybe I'll just buy a copy of the Fark book instead. :)

wil: For example, none of us has ever gotten our nuts caught in a chair.

Broken9754: What? You mean nobody sponsored that guy?

I believe he was sponsored, but technically his conundrum began while he was still a liter so wil is correct. Unless other TFers have also trapped their nards in a chair but had the good sense not to reveal it Farkwide.

Its definitely not a streetlight. Why would a streetlight be hanging from the sky. I don't know, maybe gravity doesn't work as good in Germany as it does in Farkistan. But, a streetlight denotes that it is attached to a street. And what would a street be doing way up in the air. Unless it was like something out of the Jetson's. That's it. I got it. It's a hoverlight. Similar to a streetlight except that its hovering in the air.

/man i'm bored

Neither the original "UFO" shot that forked_at_fark posted, nor her comparison "Streetlight at Night" shot, nor her daytime "This is where the object was" photo contained EXIF data. However, the shot that SeanDude posted from her site (shot in the daytime, showing streetlight amid trees), contained EXIF data:

C'mon, forked_at_fark you're a chess player--use some of that logic you must have to see that the simplest answer (it's a streetlight) is almost certainly the correct one (that it's a streetlight). Seriously.

+1 on ya for the laughs, though ;)

forked_at_fark is so deep in the lie that there is no getting out. I've never heard someone bullshiat a bullshiat this many times in a row. But you know, the fact that she remains so calm in her responses is clear proof that it's staged. Anyone who was not faking the whole thing would be a little upset that nobody believed them.

Ok, so my friend came over tonight and sure enough, at 2:40am in austin texa usa we confirmed the same object in the sky. So it must be moving in a pattern. We did not look before 2:40am so not sure if it was there before 2:40am or not. I took photos with digital camera that I will need to run to staples and have prints done that I will scan in this evening. I think this is a real photo!

Man, some people want to believe in something so magical and special that they'll forgo all sense of reasoning, hell, even cold hard proof that states the contrary.

Wow. Sounds a lot like religion in general, doesn't it?

Good morning, Farkistan.

Thanks to those of you who are supporting me.

I just added some more pictures to the gallery.
I took pictures of all four streetlights that are visible from the balcony.
I compared pics of the farthest streetlight and the object, and whoops, they match.

So, I guess it is time to admit...

I am an idiot.

2007-02-20 08:36:34 AM
forked_at_fark: if you can find it again some night, may I suggest an experiment? You will need your SO's help for this.

1. Set your camera up as close as you can to the way you set it up to take the original photograph.
2. Try to find the same object again in the viewfinder.
3. If you can find it, have your SO wave his hand around about a metre in front of the lens, while you look through the viewfinder.
4. Find out the exact point where his hand has to be to make the light source vanish.

If the light source only vanishes when his hand is directly in line with where the camera is pointing, then I have no explanation.

However, if the light vanishes when his hand is anywhere else, then it is almost certainly a reflection inside your camera lens.

That was great.

I've been wondering about the streetlight references for a couple of days but never saw a link. After wasting/enjoying the past hour reading the whole thread I get to the bottom to see f_a_f's follow up. Icing on the cake.

Are there going to be t-shirts like the CHB thread?
