Reveilled Thrown bricks and broken bottles of bucky seem a bit more likely.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the man has a point.

although I don't mind what they throw, as long as it is potentially damaging to the silly old moo.

So all this bile towards Margaret Thatcher is due to her changing a government hand-out program so that the money could be used more efficiently?

Jeez, you'd think she invaded Iraq or something.

I heard she has a false penis, actually an enlarged clitoris(p), like female hyenas but I'm loathed to compare her to a warm-blooded animal.

Glasgowsfinest: I don't think the senile old cow has been to my fair city. It would be interesting to see how it went down if she did.

She was at the Scottish Cup Final one year. Didn't get a terribly warm reception.

Another punter who wasn't here to see what she did to the UK. And the "goverment hand-out program" was sometimes the only protein some kids had in a day. There was no need to end it. It's not like it was comparable in cost to sodding Polaris.

The bile is because she never did a single thing for the elecctorate it was all about her goverment, wether serving under Heath, (whom she despised), and cutting the free milk to over sevens without a care about kid's health:

"Mrs Thatcher told MPs the Chief Medical Officer had been consulted on the plans and he had advised that it was not possible to predict whether the withdrawal of free milk would harm children's diets and overall health."

(It also devestated the dairy industry who were already suffering.)

To closing down our active coal industry, (they actually flooded the pits so they could never be re-opened), devestating the economy north of London.

A disaterous economic policy that only George Soros benefitted from, unemployment running into double percentage figures, privatising the railways, (which her ministers now actually admit was a massive mistake), electricty companies and even a bank the Govt didnt own! Topped off with her own Iraq: an unnescerry war with Argentina over a few hundred penguins to win an election.

(100% embedded journalism was in force during the Falklands War, with the military cutting comms so Thatcher could announce the war was over not the journalists.)

Really? When was that then? I stand corrected. I take it she had the Army with her?

It's less to do with the milk and more to do with the fact she farked this country and farked it good; the milk is just one small aspect of this*. In a nut shell, she gleefully presided over the neutering of the unions, the dismantling of British industry, massive education, health and welfare cut backs and did a little victory dance as she ripped the beating heart out of most communities north of the Watford gap, all to appease those that would be least effected by these cuts, the middle class Tory twats that voted her in in the first place. Oh, and she also went to war over the Falklands in a shamefully transparent attempt to shore up her slumping popularity.

* As stated above, the milk thing was pretty important, although I do see how it could be viewed over there as typical British daftness. Basically the free milk was an attempt to improve the health of those that need it most and it worked. She took it away as part of a raft of measures to reduce overall tax as per an election promise, not to "use it more effectively"

My troll-fu must be weak. I'll I got were reasoned responses. :-)

I don't know enough about British politics to argue with anything that's been written here, so I won't even try. I tend to be a proponent of free markets (within sensible limits) and I've always read that she was a great supporter of them. I was just surprised that a story about a statue of her could raise so much ire.

My one and ony Valentine's Day gift this year was an outrageous water bill, courtesy of Thatcher's privatisation policy.

I see they intend to build the statue indoors under lock and key to prevent us from urinating on it, as was my original plan upon reading the headline.

If you lived in the UK outside London in the 1980's, you would totally understand. All she did was suck the life out of the provinces to keep the Home Counties happy.

Thatcher was so popular she was forced out of power by her own party cause she was saying so many stupid things they were afraid of the impact.

I don't have the ideological opposition to everything Thatcher did that many people hold, not least because a continuation of the labour market of the '70s would have been catastrophic. However, her most enduring legacies are privatisation, which in many instances has resulted in de facto private monopolies, and the closure of the pits. The latter seems a desperate error, given that Britain's energy independence was squandered. Relying on Russian coal and gas ? Not comforting.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Well that shouldn't stop it from being a national bullseye. It should be easy to fark it up if a little thought is given to how to pull it off.

Let me try to explain just one aspect.

1) Government sets up public utility/service. Said company is bound by charter to provide said service. The charter serves as motivation for the corporation in lieu of profit motive. Employees are paid wages comparable to private industry and held to the same standards of work, so at that level there is no difference between working for a private or public employer.

2) Government decides to enrich corporate friends using the pathetic excuse of "stimulating industry" as their rationale. Sells public property, originally paid for by taxpayers, to private investors at bargain price.

3) New private corporation now needs to work towards a profit, as well as pay huge salaries to board of directors, dividends to stockholders. Result: prices go up, quality of service goes down.

Happens every time. Suck it, libertarians.

Agreed. This is one of those sensible limits that I support. Privatization of government services is nothing more than a scam when all it does is confer a government sanctioned monopoly to a private company. This is especially true when the delivery method is fixed. (Water, roads, gas, electricity, and more recently, telecom)

But for other things, like trash collection, it actually works well. If my trash company has crappy prices or service, I can choose another. Same thing with oil delivery.

"There are some things you never see. You never see a Rolls-Royce with a bumper sticket that says, 'Shiat Happens'. You never see a fat, tall, Chinese guy with red hair. You never see a wheelchair with a rollbar. You never see someone taking a shiat while running at full speed. And you never see a picture of Margaret Thatcher strapping on a dildo."

I just wanted to see that posted again because it's so, so true.

When she finally kicks the bucket the headline should read, "Rejoice!"

It's amazing how one woman has managed to shrink the sphincters of so many men in the UK. She was a great leader. She wasn't elected by "middle class Tory twats" alone.

meekychuppet: She was a great leader.

No, she was an absolute disaster for the country.

She wasn't elected by "middle class Tory twats" alone.

True - they weren't all middle-class.
