A few years back there were reports of people stealing yards on Long Island. Crews would go in and cut the sod, roll it up, and carry it off when the homeowners weren't there.

"Police are looking for the man who came to the door and are treating the missing tree case as a grand theft."

A grand theft on many levels.

Article is useless without pictures of the missing tree.

They need to put out an amber alert out for this poor tree..

A (sort of) friend of mine and his fellow asshole fratboys did something like this last Christmas. They went into someone's yard and just cut down their pine tree to use as a Christmas tree in the frat house. He told me that and acted surprised when my opinion of him lowered.

So these criminals got major wood?

They squirreled their catch away?

Did they leave any evidence?

And yet some people oppose the PATRIOT Act. Way to go libbies. First it's trees, next it's a bomb.

Nevermind, my post would have been more relevant if it were a Bush. My bad.

You mean the cops actually are treating this as a crime? dnrtfa....

You can just buy a new tree for a grand at the nursery.

2007-02-15 03:56:36 PM
And the idiot didn't write down the license plate of the guy who wanted to buy his tree?
/deserves to lose it IMHO.
//Any, and I mean any suspicious activity involving prior contact permissions from other people should be logged with at least a license plate and vehicle identification.
///Because chances are they're just going to go and do it anyway.

Another resident at home on the 2100 block of Dorson Way -- Fedric Adonus, 29 - told police a man came to the door on Wednesday and asked to buy the palm tree, but left when he was told it wasn't for sale.

Do you think they could be connected, Lou?

I had a huge palm tree at my last house, was taller than the house.

We used to get people asking if they could buy it once every few months. No one ever stole it.
